Last week the world was introduced to a spider named Neil Young. Jason Bond, a biologist at East Carolina University, discovered a new species of trapdoor spider and chose to name it Myrmekiaphila neilyoungi after the legendary Canadian singer-songwriter. The article notes that earlier this year a whirligig beetle was named after Roy Orbison, which naturally got me thinking cover songs... I remember Harrison Ford had something named after him (two, it turns out: Calponia harrisonfordi , a spider, and Pheidole harrisonfordi , an ant) so I figured there would [...]

Hey! I'm finally back. There was some sort of difficulty with my modem. Either that or my cats were screwing around and disconnected something. One or the other. No matter, we're good now. It's been about three weeks now since the Stone Temple Pilots announced they were reuniting for a tour starting next month and running through November. Guitarist Dean DeLeo said the band plans to record a new album after the tour, Blabbermouth.net recently reported. And singer Scott Weiland was formally "let go" from Velvet Revolver last [...]

In Support of the Stone Temple Pilots song "Vasoline" being named the All-Time Grunge Anthem Whereas, Stone Temple Pilots have reunited and will be touring the 2008 summer festivals, AND Whereas, Stone Temple Pilots best album was Purple , AND Whereas, the best song on Purple was "Vasoline," AND Whereas, "Vasoline" starts of with that cool reverb humming, AND Whereas, the lyrics of "Vasoline" are vague and yet important sounding [like every good grunge song], AND Whereas, [...]

More bands are getting on that reunion bandwagon of late, and while the Stone Roses and Morrissey and Johnny Marr have yet to mend their bridges, the latest groups to throw their hats into the old ring are interesting. First, New Kids on the Block... well, what can you say? The "Hangin' Tough" crew was a phenomenon when I was in first and second grade and forming my first opinions of music. My opinions, of course, being heavily informed by cute girls in my class like Chanel Laugen who could never know how I truly felt about her [...]

It's been a very large break for the boys in Stone Temple Pilots . Apparently, though, since Scott Weiland was recently ousted from that ridiculous amalgam of post-fame alternative rockers in Velvet Revolver , that break has ended. Here now are the tour dates that were just announced by the group as places and times you will not find the culture of me. So far, these dates are just a primer for the alleged 65 date grunge rock re-takeover. Ugh. Dates: May 17 Columbus, OH Columbus Crew Stadium [...]

No matter how unnecessary it may be, and it is really really unnecessary, unlike Blind Melon and Alice in Chains at least all of the band members are involved. ![Stone Temple Pilots reunion imminent ? [17.05.2008]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/889624_lg.jpg)
One month ago, the former Stone Temple Pilots frontman, Scott Weiland broke news of a posible reforming, last month at a benefit in Florida, telling the Miami Herald to watch out for an STP reunion in the months ahead. Recently Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash recently confirmed to Billboard.com, that Velvet singer Scott Weiland, will reunite with his previous band for a short series of shows this summer. According to HardDrive Radio, the reunited Stone Temple Pilots will perform their first show at the Rock on the [...]
According to Slash not only are Stone Temple Pilots reuniting but they're also planning on touring as soon as this summer. I'm semi-excited about this because the band isn't that old really so it's not one of those things where a bunch of fat old dudes try and relive the old days. STP now isn't much different then they were 10 years ago, I would suspect. Anyway, I'll go see them... as long as

Call off the firing squad--it looks as though Internet radio will live to see another day. Thanks to....mounting pressure from congressional lawmakers, the Internet radio industry no longer appears likely to face the premature death that supporters had warned was imminent under the new rates . Well, that seems like good news . I've come to really enjoy and appreciate internet radio; it's pretty cool to find a station playing some great music or offering interesting discussions whether it's across [...]
Whilst it was a year in Glasgow with the redoubtable James Strath that finally marked my transition into the world of cutting edge indie, there had been signs in previous years that I was ready to abandon the steadying hand of my parents' Stones, Dylan and Bowie records and take those tentative first steps on [...]
You say you hate this band ... and frankly, so do I. But shortly after the release of their third album (left) in 1996, I was won over for a spell. Why? I ask myself. Perhaps because it nods off to the best in '70s glam rock. Maybe because it's so trashy-- fucking slutty, even. Like getting crazy head behind a fast food joint from someone you barely know, right between the dumpster and the grease trap. Not that I would know what that's like. Tumble in [...]
Earlier in the month, I posted about different songs with the same name after a comment from my son, He Might Be Giant . He asked if bands are allowed to call songs by the same name as another song. When I told him that yes, it happens all the time, he said, "well, then how can they tell them apart?" These songs are obviously very different from each other, but very excellent in their own way. Enjoy. j. tillman: take care from tour EP 2006 [...]

MEW - Frengers Apr 7, 2003 Epic Thank you Chart Magazine for introducing me to Mew. After reading a very successfull review for the album in Chart I decided to rush out and buy an album from this Denmark band...I`m glad I did and I know a few buddies of mine (ahem Erik) who are also glad I did...This is another one of those albums that reminds me of days on Dundas St. Mew [...]
Today's post is quite lame, actually, because I've just moved back to school, and I'm going through RA training right now, which is incredibly rigorous. If my writing quality has diminished, please forgive me. It should be back to normal when I am more rested. I was thinking just now how I first got into Radiohead , consistently my favorite band so far. It's funny, cause I was actually looking for a little number by The Stone Temple Pilots called "Creep" , [...]
For Kristin And Jessica Days pass by so seemingly slow Words in my mind are only for show Scattered images cloud inside my head The thought of me without you, leaves so much unsaid Dreams of a life without us apart Dreams of a life that would have filled my heart Pictures of you, trying to envision Dreams of sadness the only provision Clinging to fleeting moments of joy Times where

1990s Alt-Rock Revolution! Go! --- I don't know what pushed this song back into my head this week, but I can't get it out still. " Live Forever " was a song I fell in love with by Oasis very early on. I was the only one of my friends who actively knew it when we saw Oasis live later on (my first concert, no less), and I've always loved this song, even if Definitely Maybe is only a so-so album [...]
