Last night I was fortunate enough to attend the book signing for the latest biography on the legendary Detroit rock band, The Stooges. The book, by the same title, is beautifully done and claims to be the first telling of their story as an "unabashed celebration of the band." Throughout the book are stunning, classic photos of the group, and great personal stories. One story that I loved was how on their first photo shoot, the label at the time, Elektra, wanted them to pose like the Doors (another band on the Elektra label at the time) for the cover [...]
Nestled warmly in the pocket of his new release, When The Needle Hits The Wax , Stook's "Seasonal Affective Disorder" quietly surprises as the finest piece of autobiographical poetry on the album. The precursor to the booming drunken jamboree "How Long We Gonna Dance?" and following his best Springsteen song on the album, "Diggin' on You," the track finds harmony in an avenue outside from his ever-outgoing, ever-rambunctious personality. "Seasonal Affective Disorder" projects an occasionally weak, sensitive musician; so, pretty much, he's just like the rest of us, after all. (more...)

Another Round of Goodies From the Record Pile
I always know that just about anything released on Secretly Canadian Records will be quality and A Certain Feeling , from Bodies Of Water, is no exception. The big-top indie-rock is moody and interesting like a cross between The Talking Heads, Cold War Kids, and (maybe) Bjork. It's good but (really) I don't even know how to describe this. Twin Personas: Stook & Martin Devaney
As an outsider looking in on the local Twin Cities music scene one may be left with a simplistic look as to what it is that The Cities and their modern artists have to offer. But aside from conversations surrounding Hüsker Dü , The Replacements or even Tapes 'n Tapes what does the rest of the nation honestly know about the music and the musicians of Minneapolis and St. Paul? As an outsider myself it is overwhelming when attempting to step into The Cities and figure out just where to being when attempting to find [...]
