The third Camp Bestival was the biggest and without doubt the best yet. Now establishing itself as one of, if not the best family-friendly festival in the UK, Camp Bestival sprinkled fairytale magic throughout its Lulworth Castle site and kept both adults and children alike entertained for the whole weekend. Camp Bestival may have had some teething problems in its first couple of years, but rather like the giant glow in the dark tulips in the enormous kids field, now it is really blooming. Amongst the colourful flags and bunting that adorned the site a friendly, safe, relaxed vibe was [...]

A while ago, I saw a tweet by @whenyouawake about a band they were diggin' on. I clicked on the link provided and was taken to their video of the day post featuring the Oxford, UK band Stornoway. By the way, if you haven't visited When You Awake before, I highly recommend you do… great site. Anyway, I pushed play and "Zorbing," the first track off their Beachcomber's Windowsill album, grabbed me instantly.

stornoway - watching birds [finally a good video from the stornoway camp (plus any song that ends with a kazoo deserves a listen!) sadly it's been censored in the UK... maybe too much chess playing is illegal?] http://feeds.feedburner.com/Wo ngiesMusicWorld

We have the new video from studenty types Stornoway. The track 'Watching Birds' will be released on on Monday 23rd August 2010
[ download ] The most immediately striking thing about "Zorbing," a track from the young Oxford, England band Stornoway , is the strange barbershop quartet/gospel choir/sea chantey backing vocals that drop in from out of nowhere at the end of the first verse. In an era when indie bands are tossing industrial-size kitchen sinks into their arrangements, it takes ingenuity to be able to coax a "well, I wasn't expecting that" reaction from listeners. After that, the soaring melody of the verses and vocalist Brian Briggs' clear, pure tenor kick in. [...]
update: looks like the video is unavailable at present, here's a s weet acoustic version of "Zorbing" we found from the BBC until the other video becomes available again. keep you posted here. English Indie band, Stornoway, made a big impression on us back when they first posted a song, "Zorbing" and the first video for the song where the band was on a merry go round singing the tune. Very impressive if they actually pulled it off while spinning but nice effect as the music also made us a bit dizzy [...]
We do like a bit of Stornoway 's bloke-folk here at TGTF. Ever since they were announced as one of the acts on the BBC Sound of 2010 long list, their star has been rising, and the two sets of brothers have recently released their album 'Beachcomber's Windowsill' that Emmy reviewed last month . The English folk rock scene is getting a wee bit crowded these days, but should you need convincing that Stornoway is a band to keep tabs on, watch this Watch Listen and Tell session featuring the group playing [...]

J J Bullock Have we officially christened a "song of the Summer" for 2010 yet? Do we even have enough of a monoculture anymore that a consensus on such a thing is even possible? If so - or if not - I would like to nominate "Zorbing", the lead track and single from Beachcomber's Windowsill , the debut album from Oxford, England's Stornoway . It's a simple but instantly catchy tune about the metaphorical joys of rolling around London in a giant hamster ball - I think - that's [...]

Founded in 2008 by Bestival head-honcho, Radio 1 DJ and all round quality music connoisseur Rob da Bank, Camp Bestival is the smaller sister festival to its big bro Bestival. Whilst Bestival has always attracted a wide range of ages and types, as it has grown from just a few thousand attendees to over 40,000 it has become too big and too loud for many who used too attend - particularly families. Camp Bestival is the obvious and logical next step for those groups as well as those who have found other non-family friendly festivals too daunting. [...]
British indie folk newcomers Stornoway have announced plans to drop their debut album Beachcomber's Windowsill in the United States on August 10th (via 4AD ). The album has already been released across the pond in the UK, peaking at No. 14 in the album chart. The band does not, despite the name, hail from Scotland. They are, in fact, from Oxford, England. They could also be the most booksmart outfit working in music today. How many lineups can boast members with a masters degree, a Russian translator and a PhD who was once [...]

I've been keeping my ears alert for any new Stornoway [ myspace ] material since the turn of the new year after seeing them on the BBC Sounds of 2010 shortlist. It wasn't until I came across the stunning, Fuel Up , that I felt compelled to share some of their beauty with you. I'll keep this short and sweet as my eyes are about to give way to exhaustion but the band are a 4-piece from oxfordshire in rolling countryside of England. Their debut album, Beachcomber's Windowsill , [...]
This afternoon, thousands of music fans will make their way to Chicago's Union park for the sixth edition of Pitchfork Music Festival . As Consequence of Sound is partly based in Chicago, having a festival in our own backyard is a really big deal for us. Needless to say our coverage of the fest will be top notch! But for those of you who won't be able to make it to Pitchfork, our Friday Mixtape has arrived just in time to make sure everyone receives a little extra somethin' this weekend. [...]

[for my 10 fans of the site (i'm going to start using that more often now!), you know that we've been nerding for the oxford based stornoway since late february . their brand of earnest folk mixed in with superb 4 part harmonies and heartfelt lyrics have given us one of the better debuts albums of the year. last week the band took a break from their hectic/sold out festival schedule and came across the pond to perform 2 low key showcases for the NY crowd. i attended their 2nd show at the mercury lounge and managed [...]

stornoway - zorbing [OH MY GOD, can these boys NOT make a decent video? either they're allowing their mates to shoot these nothing video compositions, or they have no sense of visual taste. wtf?! thank goodness they are so brilliant as a performance band cause if i didn't know better, i'd write them off based on this blergh video!] http://feeds.feedburner.com/Wo ngiesMusicWorld
