This week I thought I could start with The Broken Assembly and their EP "Emotional", which was released in the beginning of the year. Lasse Thomasson has visited Meadowmusic before, with the rduo Strangers In Wonderland together with Åsa Girgensohn , and this time it's also about a duo, now together with Helena Ahlbäck. There's a nice span between the songs which could be summarized with "The Broken Assembly makes it's utmost to create something new and has firmly buried their strong roots in the underworld of the seventies and the eighties; where [...]

This time of year, I'm usually in the Bah Humbug spirit. I try to avoid Christmas like the plague and always end up getting blindsided and having a miserable season due to this reason or that. So this year I decided to boycott Christmas. No decorations. No presents. No goodwill to all men and that other stuff. It worked pretty well. I've managed to avoid all the crap that usually comes with the season - traffic, annoying people, screaming kids, way too many lights than your house can handle, etc. I put the holidays in the back of [...]

After listening to Best-of Christmas albums too many times, too many Christmases, I thought it would be nice to find some new favourites. And why not start looking among all the artists we have presented here at Meadowmusic? So, here's a collection of new christmas songs, and I hope that you too will find some songs that gives you that extra Christmas atmosphere. Merry Christmas! ad dios , the masters of ambience have created their own version of an old Christmas carol. On their site you [...]
These are by no means all the best songs. The ones included on best albums are not listed. These songs, though, have been going through my head at one point or another throughout this whole year. Republic Tigers – Buildings and Mountains from Keep Color ( buy ) The Weepies – Antarctica from Hideaway ( buy ) Kings of Leon – Sex on Fire from Only By The Night ( buy ) Death Cab For Cutie – I Will Possess Your [...]

The 6th of October Strangers In Wonderland released their debut album "Shadows" ( Last Refrain Music ). The duo, Åsa Girgensohn and Lasse Thomasson, offers 19 tracks on their album! On the album you'll find 4 excellent remixes signed by Chuck Dread (Fredrik Muskos) and David Lilja . Even if I had listened to some songs before, it was a real positive surprise to listen to the entire album. It takes a lot to be able to maintain the listener's interest throughout 19 tracks, but I would say that they have really succeded [...]

I've just learned from Åsa & Lasse from the Swedish group Strangers In Wonderland that their newest album Shadows will be released on Oct. 6th, but it's already possible to listen to the whole thing at strangersinwonderland.com . The tracks are what I expect after falling through Wonderland and a few surprises along the way. Dark, seductive sounds mixed in intricate melodies make me never want to find my way out of Wonderland. So Much More Whispers

Bringing some of the music sent to the 100b HQ mailbox to the attention of the music-loving public has been something on my To Do List for a while. One thing I used to love as a radio DJ - in college (at university to those from the U.K.) and two stations in The Netherlands [...]

I knew there was a reason I loved Strangers in Wonderland so much. I received a very nice Christmas card from Åsa and Lasse a few weeks ago which unfortunately fell into my junk mail and I'm just now finding it. A big thank you goes out to them. The Strangers have been keeping busy with some new songs. House of Dreams I Like It On top of that, they are part of a special CD collection. The Sunday Sundown Podcast [...]
Hi, Swedish duo Strangers in Wonderland has released two new songs. Our hope is that you will take the time to listen. Here are direct links to the mp3's: House Of Dreams - A pleasant dream or an unpleasant nightmare? Who knows what's in that house of dreams? I Like It - Remedies for love? It's quite simple really. And we like it! They are available as a free download on our website at

If you're a fan of Dragonette, you might also like this song by Swedish duo Strangers In Wonderland, aka the very Swedishly-named Lasse and Åsa. They even use the same half-of-each-face idea for the picture on their homepage. The MP3 is available free on their website, along with one called Behind The Mask which is quite atmospheric but not catchy like this one. There's something quite old-fashioned about the band's sound, especially the singer's voice, like they could be a contemporary of Fleetwood Mac, but the catchy chorus keeps them modern. I don't think they have much chance of success [...]

Here are some musicians that have come across my radar recently: The Commonwealth hails from Louisville, KY and their first album He Thinks He Scares Us is a compilation of what's been called an "avant-garde tunes with a unique blend of instruments." The Commonwealth was featured in last year's installment of Burn To Shine, a documentary by former Fugazi member Brenden Canty and film director Christopher Green. Bloody Genes Honestly, I tried looking for an official website, but there are many bands out there called The Commonwealth ranging [...]

Taking a small step clear of the pop music stream I bring you a couple of tracks from the forthcoming Boys Noize debut, 'Oi Oi Oi' . Created by German producer Alexander Ridha, its an album of retro justice-esque effects, complex beat structures and some dirty Does it Offend You style clubbing tunes. A favorite of the Ed Banger artists, Boys Noize have released tracks on Kitsune , Tiga's Turbo records and he fits in nicely with the wave of emerging European electro artists. [...]
Bag of Songs gets a new header photo and has a nice post about a soul singer in a session band, oh wait, no she is the band! If you are in the Chicago area this Sunday, the 16th (Sarah and Marc, this means you guys), give Craig over at Songs:IL an email and got to his house for an intimate concert with Late Greats Fav (and my personal favorite performance from this year's Musikfest) Eilen Jewell. (Been cleaning up my inbox…) MP3s I got yesterday that were [...]

I know the vast majority of my readers are folks who are looking for unreleased Clash, Ryan Adams, or whatever, but I also regularly hear from about 100 of you who truly come just for the indie artists. So I know you're out there. This post is for you, the few the proud. Ten artists who came to me through the mailbag. (It's so damn full I just can't post on all these, but I dig 'em so I'm sharing them.) 1. KT Tunstall, the female singer/songwriter behind the brilliant "Eye of the [...]

Way way back in April, we gave you a free track from Stockholm's best kept secret pop duo Strangers in Wonderland. Well, shoot, these kids are back and at it again. They emailed me a few days back (sorry for the delay!) and included two new tracks they've been cooking up. It's more of the same wonderful vocals shining all over lush instruments and orchestrations. We love it. You'll love it. Thank goodness for honest, purely not contrived sweet Swedish pop. (mp3) Behind The Mask [...]
Åsa & Lasse: Hi! You are welcome to listen to Strangers in Wonderland latest songs The Big One - About life in a roller-coaster... Walk with me - Yes, come and walk with me in...
