Dum Dum Girls got in on the Christmas music giving. This morning they e-mailed their fans their lovely cover of Strawberry Switchblade's "Trees & Flowers". Band member Dee Dee says the cover will only be good as a download from soundcloud for a little while, so you best grab it while you can. She says a hi-fi version will eventually be released. Today is yet another cold and rainy day here in Gotham City. Since when has this town become London? Speaking of the U.K., today's vintage video documents cult favorite post-punk/coldwave act Into a Circle . Primarily a duo, Into a Circle formed in the wake of the similarly styled Getting the Fear . Paired down to two members (Barry Jepson and Bee), Into a Circle had a more free-form musical approach, without a four-piece band hindering their musical experiments. All of their material was self-produced, allowing the band complete creative control over their work. Over the course of [...]

I watched This Is England recently. I thought it was great. Set in 1983, the styling and wardrobe were really well done. Even better is the soundtrack . Strawberry Switchblade - Since Yesterday

It's time for you to tell us again Which Is Better?? Here we have 4 versions of the song Jolene! The artist include: Dolly Parton, Olivia Newton-John, Sophie Ellis-Bextor & Strawberry Switchblade! They are all quite good... but what do you think, let us know Which Is Better?? [...]
![Dolly Parton's "Jolene": A Popular Cover Choice For Musicians Ages 9-99 [More Dolly, I Say]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1293063_lg.jpg)
NPR's All Things Considered took a look at Dolly Parton's "Jolene" this week, which is not only the lone song my wife will sing at karaoke, but a popular target for actual musicians as well. (It was also performed by an unnamed fifth grader at my son's elementary school talent show last week. When a song hits the talent show playlist, you know it's moved into "classic" territory.) "It's a great chord progression—people love that 'Jolene' lick," Parton told NPR. "It's as much a part of the song almost as the song. And because it's [...]
Good old ctelblog has provided us with a superb and extremely rare cover version by One Dove of the song Jolene. And seeing that at least one reader got very excited by the notion of Dolly Parton cover versions, here's the same song as interpreted by Strawberry Switchblade back in 1985:- mp3 : Strawberry Switchblade - Jolene This female duo from Glasgow are thought of as a one-hit wonder

It has been raining yesterday and all night here, and lots of rivers here in Switzerland have flooded the land. Thousands of firemen are working since hours to keep the havoc as low as possible, but there have already been major damages. In the city where I work, a building already collapsed, there were power outages, and the old wooden bridge, one of the trademarks, is in danger of being swept away. Check the pics below (the bridge is on the left side): This is how it usually looks like. [...]
While it's hard to post about Strawberry Switchblade without resorting to type and blathering about their magnificent one hit wonder 'Since Yesterday' I am going to persevere. The Glasgow duo of Rose McDowall and Jill Bryson may have disappeared by early 1986 but no 80's retrospective would be complete without Bananarama's darker and more interesting younger sisters. Their debut single 'Trees

Strawberry Switchblade : "From the ominous shadows of Goth suddenly appeared two young girls in polka-dot dresses, flaming red lipstick, and hair ribbons. Strawberry Switchblade made a brief splash on the U.K. charts and then abruptly vanished in the mid-‘80s, leaving their fans with a handful of collectible singles and one LP of deceptively sweet-sounding dance pop." I love this junk shop glam rock discotheque... We will really miss our regular gig at the Chain Drive -- including our ability to play everything from Herb Alpert to The Stranglers to Luxxury to Marlene Dietrich and whatever else strikes our fancy. Strike this item off that list of things to do before we die: We had a dj residency at a leather bar. And I think they loved us -- we sure loved them. Thanks, guys! Here's the setlists, complete with links to songs we may have written about/posted in the past. Because we're nice like that. [...]
