With the omission of "Mrs. Robinson" and Juliana Hatfield on bass, The Lemonheads played all the way through their classic album "It's A Shame About Ray" at the El Rey Theater. Abetted by a highly competent rhythm section, Evan Dando whipped through the album and revisited such staples as "Being Around", "If I Could Talk, I'd Tell You", "The Great Big No", "Down About It" and "Into Your Arms". In the opener department, The Shining Twins were a stripped down guitar and drum punk version of Veruca Salt while Street Chant from New Zealand also shared the stage. Check out [...]

I think this was the 19th CMJ I have attended and though they don't call it the Music Marathon anymore, it still feels like it. SXSW is like that too, shows all day and night, but when you live in NYC and you're expected to do work too... you're running on fumes by the end. There weren't as many big names this year which turned out to be good. Most of the bands I saw were either entirely new to me, or I'd never seen them live before. Here's a rundown. Top Five CMJ Performances [...]

Stoned again - Street Chant Their slower song that, while not terrible, never has clicked with me. On record i know it is coming up, and live i know they're going to play it, and it's hard for me to get excited about it. Something to endure. It's a personal problem and i will seek help regarding it. I know it's a personal problem because they've pulled it as the newest single from Means , complete with video. I trust that selection is [...]

Every few months or so, a music publication or blogger will tag a certain overseas country, region or city as "emerging" or "up and coming" or "place to be" for new indie and alternative rock music, and the gazillion sub-genres that branch outwards from that trunk. For a while it will be one area, like, [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Stoned again - Street Chant A song brought about by a dream. This happens often, i just don't report them. Mostly because dream stories are mostly boring and unrelatable. The dream was me somehow at some cool party, alone, and Street Chant were about to play. Overwhelmed, out of place, i turned away and hid behind a barrier to wait out another vital, fun and rewarding moment i couldn't bear to experience. Meanwhile everyone else was having a ball, as rightfully they [...]
Good morning! Here's a relatively new video for Street Chant's "Less Chat More Sewing". Street Chant, as you might recall, were included on the March mix—this song, actually. They're awesome and I love them and their new record, 'Means' has been getting loads of plays around these parts lately. Watch!

Street Chant From: Auckland, New Zealand There's something stirring in the south-western Pacific. I've already covered the Christchurch scene ( Christ You Know It Ain't Easy ) and brought you the joys of that same city's Bachelorette ( Bachelor Girl ) well tonight it's the turn of the North Island with Auckland's Street Chant (first featured on the Devil's blog back in March, If Cinderella Can't Go To The Ball ) .
