Last night, in a COMPLETE stroke of luck, I managed to score tickets to a sold out show two hours before it began in Philly's Union Transfer. Thank god I did, because I'd be kicking myself for missing such an incredible lineup: Cock Sparrer, Street Dogs, Paint it Black, and Sydney Ducks. Sydney Ducks Even though the show was sold out, when San Francisco openers Sydney Ducks took the stage the huge venue was pretty empty still. No matter, gives me plenty [...]

Irish-punk stalwarts Dropkick Murphys are the latest music act to launch their very own music festival. The Shamrock-N-Roll Festival will be more in the vein of the Dave Matthews Band Caravan than PJ 20 , featuring nine stops along the East coast during the month of September. Festivities will include performances by Dropkick, Street Dogs, Hot Water Music's Chuck Ragan, The Mahones, The Parkington Sisters, and local bands, as well as a few more yet-to-be-announced national acts, all of who will perform on two alternating stages. Also, when you have your own festival, [...]
Last night (this morning?) on the Radio 1 Rock Show, Reading & Leeds Festivals confirmed the line-up for the Lock Up Stage - the two days of the festival where the third biggest stage is given over to punk. And despite us often joking among ourselves that it always seems to be 20 bands picked [...]

Ah, the Warped Tour. One of the last remaining bastions of a punk-rock tour in the U.S. Even though I've never heard of most of the bands that are playing the festival this year and the tour tends to cater to a much younger crowd (i.e. 12-16 years old, it seems), Warped is still an American institution that should be attended at least once. That being said, the main acts for this, the 17th annual Warped Tour, include the following bands: 3OH!3, A Day To Remember, The Devil Wears Prada, Against Me!, August Burns Red, [...]

It's Wednesday so that means another batch of Warped Tour bands have been announced. The promoters have confirmed that Madina Lake , Permanent Bastards , Street Dogs , Continental, Jack's Mannequin, Rapid Decline and The Steelwells will join the tour on various dates. The tour, which also includes bands such as The Wonder Years, Set Your Goals, Lucero among others, kicks off on June 24th in Dallas, TX and wraps up on August 14 in Hillsboro, OR.

Looking forward to raising a pint in honor of your Irish heritage? Your significant other's Irish heritage? The Irish heritage of the nice neighborlady who bought for you punks when you were underage? Regardless of your affiliation with the Emerald Isle (maybe you at least started reading Dubliners ?), the Irish probably won't get up in arms over your enjoying a little nip in the name of St. Patrick. And since you're going to need some music for that awkward period between when The Clancy Brothers aren't quite cutting it and no [...]

Devil's Brigade , the side project fronted by Rancid / Operation Ivy bassist Matt Freeman, has been around a long time. They first appeared on a 2002 Hellcat Records compilation, and later released a couple of singles. After eight years though, they've finally gotten around to dropping an album. 'Bout time. The self-titled debut includes Rancid frontman Tim Armstrong on guitar and DJ Bonebroke of L.A. punk legends X on the skins. The punk throwback LP hit stores last week, complete with an elaborate theatrical concept. "The original concept for this record [...]

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive While Matt Freeman was writing songs for his Devil's Brigade side project, the Rancid bassist found himself listening to a lot of X . This made sense since that legendary Los Angeles group was among the first to mix rockabilly and punk, two of the styles Freeman was attempting to fuse. As he prepared to enter the studio with guitarist Tim Armstrong [...]
