There are any number of young bands out there, featuring choppy new wave guitars, incessant drumming and attractive female vocalists. Most of them are a bit rubbish. Stricken City definitely aren't. Just don't ask me why. They've just got something the others haven't. Download: Stricken City – Tak o Tak Download: Stricken City – The Traveller On the other hand, I don't think So So Modern have it. I've given the Kiwi [...]
Stricken City are from London Town. They're pretty good. They're also everything anyone could ever need from a Rock 'N' Roll band in the summertime. I'm serious. Check the list: * They've got a hot female vocalist who plays the korg and can actually sing (Rebekah Raa) * Their songs are full of super-fun beats fit for any road trip or dance party (road trip dance party!?!?!) * Their whole E.P. is available for FREE download via the official Stricken City site [...]

Who: Stricken City from London. What: Heard about this band at Exitfare 's Great Escape coverage. Edgy-guitar pop fronted by singer/keyboardist Rebekah Raa , sounding something like Kate Bush playing onstage with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs . Songs are early demos and they've got me wanting to hear more. Song: Better As A Girl .

Myspace // "Better as a Girl" [mp3] London has been producing a bunch of strong female fronted bands lately, the type of take charge post punk sirens that I could've used as a role model growing up. Stricken City easily falls into this category, as their singer/keyboardist Rebekah Raa slinks and screams her way through songs with as much ferocity as the next guy. Their early demos suggest a lot of promise, a band with a knack for writing infectious songs with a bit of bite. Taking notes from Siouxsie & The Banshees [...]

I was just recently tipped off to the London-dwelling, indie pop troupe Stricken City by Chris at GVB and I think "stricken" would be an appropriate word to describe my feelings for them (actually "smitten" is probably more correct, oh well). I've only heard a few songs from the band but they have made quite the impression. The band is releasing a debut EP on ACTH Recordings sometime in the upcoming months. The band's strength is their mixture of catchy pop melodies with reverb-y guitars and new-wave keyboard action. "Tak o Tak" [...]

Thanks to the always great Pinglewood for turning us on to London 's Stricken City . The band's lo-fi demos vaguely recall the new-wave pop of Love Is All and Holy Hail , and their allegedly irresistible live show has already earned frontwoman Rebekah Raa hasty comparisons to Siouxsie (okay), Kate Bush (maybe?), and Bjork (nah). Here are a couple of ultra-catchy pop jams which may or may not appear on their upcoming debut EP: mp3: stricken [...]
We wrote about Striken City recently because their demos are amazing and their singer's surname is Raa which sounds like a roar if you say it right. We're simple folk and things like that please us. Now we have their new Factory Sessions EP and dudes have more than paid off on their early promise. Will McGillivray from Adventures Close To Home and Andy Chatterly have shined them up and given them a grand, melancholic edge while Raa doesn't so much roar as purr. The EP will be out soon on ACTH Recordings whose output is every bit as awesome [...]
Rebekah Raa sounds like she was named by a lion. She's the singer with Stricken City, a north London band well-versed in awesomely spiky new wave pop. And she's pals with uber-dude Sportsday Megaphone. She is, in short, amazing.
