The four-day bash will be held on Oak Ridge Farm in Arrington, VA just south of Charlottesville. What's most of interest about Interlocken, other than the fact that it is one of very few festival appearances for Grateful Dead offshoot band, Further, since the band withdrew from Bottlerock due to injuries guitarist Bob Weir sustained after a fall at a Port Chester performance, [...]

Shaun Murphy/Little Feat: It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takesa Train to Cry [ purchase the 1965 Dylan version ] Forgive my repetitious returns to the same musicians: last week it was Dylan, and more than once before, I have brought you Little Feat. Indulge me, if you will, to hear my reasons (besides the fact that I just happen [...]

Words : Mike Sherry This past Saturday night, the Boulder Theater played host to a long-running annual party thrown by local establishment Mountain Sun brewpub . Celebrating 19 Years of Funky Good Times, Mountain Sun assembled an impressive array of jam artists known as the Pearl Street Allstars for their birthday bash, including Colorado players Dave Watts and Kim Watson of The Motet as well as Kyle Hollingsworth of String Cheese Incident, plus Meters-man George Porter Jr. A rock-steady horn section was led by Dap Kings saxophonist Cochemea Gastelum, who pulled extra duty in the funky Robert [...]

String Cheese Incident + Friends @ Horning's Hideout 2012: July 19 -22 Words and Photos : Jason Gershuny In many ways, a String Cheese Incident festival at Horning’s Hideout is a homecoming for the band and their fans. People come from all over the country, and even the world, to celebrate all things Cheese. Horning’s Hideout may be 1,300 miles from Colorado, but for one weekend a year, it is home to the String Cheese world. Luckily enough for me, I only had to travel 45 minutes from Portland to this wooded [...]

“Oh my GOD!!” were the first words that I uttered upon entering the Sherwood area of Electric Forest. This became a recurring theme amongst my friends and I as we wandered around what we all knew would soon become one of our favorite music festivals. Photo by Morgan Mullin The significance of this overture may be lost upon the casual reader, so let me emphasize that my friends and I are seasoned festivalgoers. We have been to most of the major festivals in the United States: Coachella, SXSW, Bonnaroo, Ultra, [...]
String Cheese Incident's Summer Tour rolled through California over the weekend for stops at the state's two Greek Theatres - Los Angeles on Friday and Berkeley on Saturday and Sunday. In keeping with a long-standing Berkeley Greek tradition, the jam stalwarts took the stage in the afternoon on Sunday for a matinee performance. SCI kicked off the show with their version of Peter Rowan's Panama Red into a bluegrass-fueled take on Hotel California by The Eagles. Band members Keith Moseley, Michael Kang, Bill Nershi and Kyle Hollingsworth sang the song's famed extended guitar interplay in a style similar to [...]
Jazz guitarist Stanley Jordan can't seem to get enough of the jam scene as he continues on what appears to be a quest to sit in with every major band in the community this month. That quest continued last night in Flagstaff, Arizona when he was brought onstage by the String Cheese Incident for Smile during the first set, Jellyfish > Impressions in the second set as well as the The Bridge, Rollin' In My Sweet Baby's Arms encore at the Pepsi Amphitheater. Stanley with DMB - Rhyme and Reason [...]
I've been dreading the challenge of dumbing down my experience in Rothbury, Michigan this past weekend to paper; but, I've decided it's a noble cause at the very least and it's certainly going to be a personal mission of mine to convert as many people as possible into attendees for next year's festival. What Insomniac [...]

As a consummate city dweller, my second annual trip to Electric Forest was shrouded in equal parts fear and hysteria. City festivals have their major perks, like the ability to eat lunch in a nice urban deli prior to entry, opportunities to explore the area's cultural attractions, and the availability of a nice shower to wash away the day's vices. All activities that are easy to take for granted until Saturday afternoon beneath the harsh sun as you eagerly wait for Big Freedia to bounce across EF's Tripolee Stage. Sure, hammocks are abundant within the ornately-lit Sherwood Forest, [...]

Every time I listen to pretty much any song by The String Cheese Incident I can't help but be reminded of drinking some Circus Boy's on a warm summer day while smoking a few left-handed cigarettes with a couple of good friends. And apparently The String Cheese Incident would like those good times to continue on for all of us seeing as how they just released their first new song in over seven years. And while for most of us it probably feels like they never even left the music scene, the new track "Can't Wait Another Day" [...]

Jam band veterans String Cheese Incident have issued their first new song in seven years. "Can't Wait Another Day" was written by keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth - "an Afro groove that had been flying around in my brain for awhile," he told Billboard - and serves as the first of many new tracks coming from the band. "We are in the process of working on some material for a new album, but we just wanted to release this piece that was closest to being done just to get some hype and build some excitement for [...]
