Okay, I know I'm a bit of a Star Wars fan. Okay, a big fan. But, I have to say, I really dug the new J.J. Abrams take on the franchise. It's fun, exciting, interesting and it looks absolutely fantastic. I haven't done one of these in a while, so here's a couple covers of the original theme song: Star Trek Theme [...]

What makes a frightening movie? Sometimes, it's moments: A single image, like the blank eyes of the children in the original Village of the Damned or Kathy Bates maniacally smashing James Caan's leg, or the terror of waiting for that doorknob to turn. Sometimes, it's suspense: Who really lives in that house up the hill? And sometimes, it's relentless gore or torture. But a truly great films combines elements and tells a story. A few years ago, Eli Roth's Hostel was being touted as a great horror film (or criticized as little more than torture [...]

I'm going to get " Bon Iver -ed" by this band, I just know it. Let me explain. When the clever recluse (aka Justin Vernon) wandered out of his log cabin and onto the indie scene, I was asked to give his album a listen and subsequently review it. As an indie reviewer, a lot of what we hear can be hit or miss. After listening to For Emma, Forever Ago , I swore I'd never mind a screaming baby on a 7 hour flight again. I was not a fan, I couldn't write the review. Call [...]
Though The String Cheese Incident will be reuniting at this summer's Rothbury Festival , that hasn't slowed down EOTO , the baby side project of String Cheese members Jason Hann and Michael Travis. If anything, their creative minds are on fire, and what better reason for hitting the road. The northeast tour kicked off a few days ago, but there are still several dates to catch 'em. Right now, the two are working there ways amongst the south, having just finished some shows in Florida. From there, the duo will travel through Alabama, and [...]

In 1996, at the tender age of 16, I was a prime target to be taken into the cult of Phish. In my world concerts were for meeting boys, radio was A-OK and my CD collection consisted of The Cranberries, Sarah McLachlan, and The Counting Crows. Then I met Phish Dude, who I'll call Trey (for the sake of anonymity) and life, as I had known it, was changed forever. Trey was older and way cool - with the Phish bootleg tape collection to prove it. Gone was my crooning Sarah. Under Trey's direction she was [...]
Editor's note: in my haste in switching over the site to WordPress I forgot to make sure our podcast feed was rigged up correctly. I'm working on fixing it, but in the meantime you can come and stream the podcast on the site using the built in music player on the site. We've got a special guest podcast for our return to form (yet again) and we're seriously would not want to miss a chance to spread a good message and some good tunes with a podcast following up the Vice Presidential debate. The title of the [...]
The fall has brought back a familiar and unwelcome occurrence: seasonal allergies. This means that lately I'm trying to use my tongue to scratch through the roof of my mouth to my inner ear and sneezing up various unmentionables. I believe that Latham is "on the nose" about the sort of things I've been doing lately: That being said I present to you ThePerryTrain's list of The Top 10 MOST ALLERGENIC BANDS: 1. The Bee Gees [...]
Today at Comic-Con, MTV announced their intentions to do the time warp by remaking the 1975 cult-classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show to broadcast on TV next Halloween. Everybody knows The Clash, and everybody smart loves The Clash. Smart punk. Power chords and attitude, complete with a fully realized ethos. The closest comparison in the modern generation is probably Pearl Jam. And I do love Pearl Jam, but I just don't think they compare. PJ's songs are great, but I can't imagine them being performed by anyone other than Pearl Jam. The Clash, on the other hand, were great songwriters. Case(s) in point to follow . . . A is for Arcade Fire-Guns of Brixton (live) [...]
