Just a quick one today as I have been a bit 'meh' lately on getting my bloggin on. One thing that recently got me out of my funk (or is getting me out of my funk) is the series of Sunday live performances in Vancouver arranged by Slowcoustic favourites The Sumner Brothers . For The Sake Of The Song Sundays is my kind of gig, if you are in the area this weekend, you should go. Stripmall Ballads will be playing for Christ's sake (pun intended). Listen to a free download from the [...]

This is a repost from December 2009 that I had to put back up because the music is good. Real good. I also just picked up the EP "Ballads, Stripmall" ( iTunes , eMusic ) as I realized I didn't officially have the entire thing and it all came back in a rush as to why I love this band. He has a new Facebook page and updated website since the below post - make sure you [...]

Words by Brendan Sullivan There's a lot of shit going down in the next three days. Like, a ton. It's a good weekend to be in Pittsburgh, that's for sure. The Decemberists / Down By the Water Big Hurry / Gets Me Low Wifebeater / Can't Seem to Remember [...]

"I think the music and the attitude of the project is more in line with what I want to express as a musician." Stripmall Ballads has performed with the likes of Sarah Harmer, The Be Good Tanya's, and Jolie Holland and recently played [...]

Ever since one of my mates (I can say mate as he is from the UK, so there) turned me onto Stripmall Ballads I have been wanting to post something over here on Slowcoustic. There is a great interview post over on You Crazy Dreamers HERE with Phillips Saylor who is the man they call Stripmall Ballads. Not unlike his moniker, I find the music Saylor creates can have a bit of everything in an unassuming package - there is country, folk, noise, rock all mixed into a lo-fi package that really [...]
If you were paying attention you would have read in the Sumner Brothers interview here that they name checked Stripmall Ballads . Well being the curious sort I checked him out and I'm sure glad I did. Phiilips Saylor Wisor being his rather grand real name, he kindly sent me his album Since Jimmy Died and the yet to be released Hooked which features Jolie Holland and Sam Parton of all people ! Some of you may know of phill from being the frontman of the old timey band The Shiftless Rounders [...]
