STS9 Genre: Instrumental rock, electronic, jam band From: Santa Cruz, California Snellville, Georgia Katrina -- it's a name freighted with some incredibly heavy history. The 2005 hurricane that decimated one of America's proudest cities was the largest natural disaster in the history of the United States. And New Orleans hasn't been the same since. Hoping to do their part in the ongoing process to revitalize the city, Californian dancefloor-pleasers STS9 (Sound [...]
While there still remain questions as to who will be replacing the Beastie Boys at this year's Austin City Limits , the same can not be said about the festival's late night entertainment. Today, the Austin, Texas based festival, scheduled to take place from October 2nd and 4th in Zilker Park, unveiled its official 2009 aftershows. Thursday, October 1st offers a pretty stellar pre-show with The Walkmen and Blitzen Trapper hitting Emo's, while Friday is jam packed with the likes of DevotchKa, STS9, !!!, and The Raveonettes. Highlighting Saturday night's festivities will be Thievery Corporation's performance at [...]

after a phenomenal and relaxing 9 day vacation (which was really two vacations in one), im finally back to civilization and internet, so i figured id get some memories of what actually went down at lollapalooza down on paper before i forgot them all, so for the next three days ill be bringing you an in depth day by day recap of things i did and saw, complete with lots of pictures (all taken by me throughout the weekend, and mostly not very good/clear pictures) and music from the acts i saw each day. so really this [...]

Suicide Sundaes - stop your grinnin' and drop your linen. Every Sunday electblake and jsully of Earmilk will bring you the weeks dirty servings, and some old favorites through a throwdown-throwback to simpler times. A time when bangers were big, remixes were bigger, the bassline bled, and we didn't care about anything as long as came in kicking and left screaming. To hell with sketchy sunday, we want to shove another dragon down the hole. As our first week we wanted to take this opportunity [...]

This probably isn't news, since STS9 is usually always on the road. But because the instrumental rockers have mapped out an autumn tour, one which is centered around their upcoming appearance at Austin City Limits and teams them up with Big Gigantic , Telepath , and Eskimo , we figured it was worth a mention. Tickets for the newly announced dates will go on sale beginning Wednesday, July 29th at 12:00 pm EST via the STS9 Store . STS9 2009 Tour Dates: 08/07 - Chicago, [...]

This past weekend, the Disco Biscuits held their annual summer extravaganza, Camp Bisco, at the Indian Lookout Country Club in Mariaville, New York. We'll let our own Carlos Detres give you the scoop, but let's just say that by weekend's end, this year's festivities proved to be one hell of an event. Mud, rain, flipped golf carts, pretty hippies, Tooly with his tow truck, and the Disco Biscuits. Those who attended pulled together through some of this season's worst weather (Coventry, anyone?) and made the best out of the situation. The torrential pour on Friday night [...]

another friday, another week in the books. the deep sighing relief of another weekend ahead of us, full of mystery, surprise and intrigue. also full of mystery, surprise and intrigue are the sounds of sound tribe sector 9 (more commonly referred to as sts9). while i have never seen them live, ive heard through the grapevine that they are one of those groups that you have to see live, without a doubt. they are sort of an instrumental jam band, and according to wikipedia, they describe themselves as "post-rock dance music". not sure [...]

A few months back we mentioned that former Phish collaborator Kid Rock was throwing his hat in the craft beer business ring. The Detroit native will debut the new brew at his upcoming two-night stand in his hometown at Comerica Park on July 17 and 18. Dubbed American Badass Beer the American-style lager initially will be available only at kiosks in Comerica Park during those shows, and will be "rolling out in Michigan in the coming weeks, followed by a number of Midwest market openings. " [...]

Tsk, tsk, tsk. What are the odds? A news writer and a photographer covering a music festival! Actually, it sounds like a match made in heaven, but we'll let the story do the talking - starting with the five W's. That seems fair, right? Or, just lazy. Who? Andy Keil and Timothy Berger. What? Rothbury Music Festival. Where? Rothbury, Michigan, of course! When? This past Fourth of July weekend. Duh! Why? Because you readers weren't fortunate enough to attend and therefore need/desire/demand this type of coverage from yours truly, [...]
Beyond Right Now - STS9 11.08.2008 - Tenessee Theatre, Knoxville, TN A great song off the group's new album.

The anticipation behind the opening notes of an STS9 set has to be seen to be believed. The crowd is literally bubbling with energy, mostly directing it towards keeping the entire zoo of inflatable animals afloat on the surface of an ocean of people. Set against the backdrop of Sherwood Forest, the wooded area that separates the Ranch Arena from the two bigger stages, this is the Rothbury Festival's chance to show off the expensive lights which your $280 ticket presumably helped pay for. This is the festival's big special effects showpiece, the one which justifies the trip [...]
