God Help The Girl is fast approaching their Kickstarter deadline, and I'd like to see a show of hands - Have you made a contribution yet? No? Right, that's what I thought. Perhaps you need to be reminded of the pro list (or in some cases, told for the first time): It's a rock musical written by Belle & Sebastian's Stuart Murdoch The producer is Barry Mendel (Rushmore, The Sixth Sense, The Royal Tenenbaums, Munich) Thanks to Grandma and her collection of musicals, GHTG [...]

God Help The Girl nació [...]

Glasgow's Belle & Sebastian are taking a breather after one exhaustive tour that saw them support last year's Write About Love , but don't let that get you down. Guitarist (and sometimes vocalist) Stevie Jackson returns in the band's stead with (I Can't Get No) Stevie Jackson , his debut solo effort. The 12-track effort is now available digitally through Jackson's website , with a physical release will follow on October 24th. According to Exclaim , the album includes material written as far back as 2006, though its mastering was only recently completed. [...]

Channel 42s Sounds From the Cities: Edinburgh aired recently (and can be watched again here , for the next week) and it was a programme I was really in two minds about. I hoped it would be really good, and feared it might be truly horrible. A show about music in Edinburgh really could have been awesome, the kind of drive and energy it takes to make things happen here would have made for some very interesting stories, I think. Then when bits of Twitter information and so on started to seep through and I heard talk [...]

Reading through someone's diary is advertised as a great thrill; a glimpse into the dark secrets and forbidden passions that consume our internal being while we hammer keyboards in our cubicles. Some people write page after page about their bitch ex-girlfriends, too. And while most people would be to boring to sustain interest in even a days worth of thoughts, Belle and Sebastian songwriter Stuart Murdoch is not one of them. In fact, of any diary to be published, Murdoch has the wit and attention to detail to pull it off. On sale for [...]
Belle & Sebastian's Stuart Murdoch has released a book.

For years, Belle and Sebastian frontman Stuart Murdoch has kept diaries on the band's website . Lovers of all things Murdoch will be happy to know that they can now find the 2002-2006 entries in one place in The Celestial Cafe , published by Pomona. Currently there is a limited release, but the book will be widely available in early 2011.
Belle & Sebastian, "I Didn't See It Coming" CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD " Quite often or moreso, I'll take the start of a song out for a run with me, and there I can get a nice idea of the arrangements, or for the middle-eight, or something like that. But on occasion, like this one, I'll get an idea for a song from scratch. " – Stuart Murdoch I like it when I read interviews and discover musicians' visions for their art, [...]
Song: I Want the World to Stop Artist: Belle and Sebastian Sometimes songs fit moods and sometimes moods fit songs. And sometimes you can't really tell which is which. I mean, sometimes the chicken and egg were both first, you know? With this recently-released Belle and Sebastian track, it's hard to tell whether it first induced in me the kind of poppy, hook-laden angst that it exudes, or whether I listened to it first on a long stroll around town while I was already in a lackluster, downtrodden mood and it just [...]

It's been four years since the indie-wallflower group had gained notoriety with their last album, The Life Pursuit, and some comedic name-dropping in the film Juno . Within that time, frontman Stuart Murdoch had been working on a project called God Help the Girl, a collection of songs and videos depicting a young woman who had been released from the psychiatric ward and aspires to be a singer-songwriter. The songs would be performed not by the band, but a collection of female vocalists. In the time that God Help the Girl [...]
Before founding Belle and Sebastian, Stuart Murdoch went to San Francisco to get healthy. He left with songs, skills, and a promise to return with a band. After the recent Brooklyn show with Teenage Fanclub, Stuart spoke to Ian S. Port about his San Francisco Love Story: It was January 1993 in Glasgow, and Stuart [...]

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars Belle and Sebastian are the darlings of the indie pop scene, which has been basically known for the past decade. This being their eighth studio release, they reinforce that they are not a band plagued by maturity and ten years of being indie pop superstars, they are Belle and Sebastian: always fresh and never ceasing to make youthful music. The first track is "I Didn't See It Coming" and starts the album with Sarah Martin's vocals leading, which [...]
