The Studio's 'No Comply' is like a big fat broadcast from a MW radio station in the 1980's. It is an elongated creation, just when you think the Gothenburg duo of Dan Lissvik and Rasmus Häg can't squeeze out any more they just up the ante and along comes another batch of solid good times. 'No Comply' is a patchwork quilt of ideas that gel in the strangest of ways. Once the disparate parts have

10. Arcade Fire, Neon Bible Sure, it didn't go over as well as Funeral (probably cause the dance elements were toned down), but this album is every bit as inspirational as its predecessor. Arcade Fire - (Antichrist Television Blues) 09. Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? This magnum breakup opus is full of intelligent lyrics and musical surprises. Little time signature variations, twelve minute [...]

This isn't a "one take mix" (ahem, ahem) . . . but it's pretty awesome anyway. Studio are on tons of best-of lists this year, and since I have nothing better to do than read those, I thought I'd share this with you. This song reminds me of what would happen if Pinback were given access to one of those crazy sequencers with ridiculous knobs and light-pads that are apparently only sold in Europe, and Rob Crowe was locked in an echo-chamber while being forced to undergo sleep-deprivation. Or maybe they're just a [...]

After starting his own unit within Globaltwist Music only a few weeks ago, Johan Gielen is a very busy man. Completely recovered from his busiest summer ever and just back from Japan and Malaysia, Johan is preparing some major studio time for the next weeks/months. Pumped with enthousiasm this internationally known dj will be sure to deliver a massive tune that will be hyped by all clubbers around the world! New single release: "Okinawa Sunset" [...]

Tis the season! I'm not sure which I dislike more...pumpkin pie, Christmas commercialism, New Year's resolutions, or Top 10 lists. Regardless of how I feel about things, I have to deal with them. Rough Trade recently published their Top 10 list of albums. There were a few I was unfamiliar with, so I thought I'd share the list and see what recommendations followed. If you're loving it...let me know, please. Only 2 of their Top 10 albums are on my list, so I can't help but wonder if I'm missing out?! [...]

Five years ago not a lot of people outside certain places in northern Italy had heard of Daniele Baldelli or of 'Cosmic' his club-night. Nor was it particularly common for records on 45 to be played at 33. There wasn't a whole lot of call for it. Suddenly though, the sound is back in vogue and, with the internet, spreading further than mainland Europe's New Beat clubs and 'horse' dancefloors. (In Baldelli's time the dancefloor drug of choice was heroin so the slow-motion music matched the running-through-treacle mood.) Not [...]
Tacks, The Boy Disaster - Frozen Feet.mp3 5.9 Mb Tacks, The Boy Disaster - Dying to Know (DaytrotterSession).mp3 3.5 Mb Puddlegum pointed out that Tacks, The Boy Disaster will be releasing new material this spring. I enjoyed their first release, Oh, Beatrice, and am looking forward to their new stuff. The track, Dying to Know, from their daytrodder session , looks promising. tacksthebodydisaster.com - myspace - [...]

Here's the second post of the day containing the kind of stuff not usually usually featured on The Daily Growl. This time, pure pop. It's getting easier for me to get excited about pop music these days, as the world of indie rock/pop has become such a dreary place of late. Every time I check my inbox, there's a message about another group of blokes (it's usually blokes, but not always) with the requisite clothing and the right type of guitar riffs. I'm even getting tired of my former radio programme of choice – [...]

I picked up West Coast by Studio over at Rough Trade when I was in the UK. I think it's on my hotlist for one of the best albums of the year. Imagine The Cure and The Smiths met up and decided to form a supergroup that plays dance-drone music with touches of afro-beat! Most of the songs are built around hypnotic grooves that develop over the course of the song and embellished with delightful 80's alt-pop guitars. Also, the songs tend to veer towards the teens in running time...but it's easy to get [...]

I originally checked out this song from Swedish duo Studio only because someone likened it to a slow-motion version of the Cure's " A Forest " (or something along those lines, anyway). I couldn't find much info about the duo other than that mildly accurate little comparison, but I do know they released West Coast last year in their native Sweden, and the record will apparently see release soon in the U.S. (prompting Stylus to call the album " one of the best of both 2006 and 2007 [...]

Parmi la foule de bons nouveaux disques écoutés pendant mon absence (péle-mèle Midnight Juggernauts, M.I.A., Common, Go!
