Admittedly I'm only a fairly new fan of Young Galaxy , but my excitement for this new album equals that of die-hard fans (well maybe not quite, but MAYBE!). As I mentioned a few days ago when I posted their new song "We Have Everything" , the story behind the recording of this album is fantabulous. Listening to the full thing in all of its glory you can see why it took Dan Lissvik nine months to send it back to them from Sweden; it's textured beyond belief, soulful and cosmic, howling and pale, but filled to the brim with life. [...]

I'm just going to go ahead and call it right now. Shapeshifting is a serious contender for album of the year. They couldn't have picked a more apt title. Gone is the cresting, electro-shoegazeing that once had the band reaching into the upper realms of the stratosphere. Instead, the Montreal trio has found its home is a much simpler place, one that lacks any huge crescendos and emotional surges. As the story goes, the band gave themselves away, putting the album in the hands of Dan Lissvik, half of the Swedish duo Studio (who has been [...]

[Photo:Joseph Yarmush] Young Galaxy: 'We Have Everything' [ mp3 ] Another cut from Montreal's Young Galaxy third album, 'Shapeshifting', which was produced by Dan Lissvik of the Swedish duo Studio. Young Galaxy are getting close to releasing their new "Shapeshifting" album but did you know they had an album before this new one? Did you know they had one before that one too? Of course you did, you guys know more about this shit than I do.....you should start a site like this, just make sure it sucks more than this so you don't show me up, cool? So far from what I've heard of their new tunes this album is gonna melt your face off, just more slowly and sickly sweet than Sleigh Bells [...]

Here's another sleekly hypnotic jam from Young Galaxy 's Shapeshifting LP, which drops next month on Paper Bag . As the backstory goes , the band entrusted Dan Lissvik of Studio with the demos for the new record, and then didn't get to hear what he was up to for 9 months : "We thought it would take a month. But what happened was we started having these lengthy conversations with Dan on skype where we could [...]

Studio: West Side If early New Order had Robert Smith guest on vocals.

Photograph by Joe Yarmush Young Galaxy are back with their third album, Shapeshifting , to be released February 8 by Paper Bag Records. Although it feels like their second album came out just yesterday, yesterday was apparently mid-2009. I wasn't that enamoured with Invisible Republic , so it's intriguing that Shapeshifting marks a drastic shift in musical direction. After recording, the album was shipped to Swedish electronic producer Dan Lissvik, who sent back an album that is decidedly different from the Young Galaxy we knew. The vocals [...]
CLICK IMAGE TO VIEW VIDEO This is going to sound a bit left field at first, but pay attention to the instrumental vibe. "A Memoria" is track number one on the excellent self titled album by "Orelha Negra". We crownd orelha negra as our Best International act, and once again they deliver in spades with [...]

It's 4 AM and as usual these days I have very little interest in sleeping, when's the next Noctambule right? It doesn't help that I'm on another Swedish binge with music that's custom made for the night owls. Today's muse is Studio (Dan Lissvik and Rasmus Hägg), the production duo from Gothenburg that's heavily invested in the art of groove, vibe and sophistication. Yearbook 1 was their debut album and is regarded by many, EMPT included, as one of the best in '07. Most of their songs are experimental instrumentals that seemingly never end so if you ever want [...]

As of yesterday, No Doubt--one of our favorite bands ever and one of our favorite memories as a 15-year-old--confirmed that they'd entered the studio again to finalize songs that they had previously been demo-ing throughout last year, inevitably leading to more questions of "when", "where" and "what" about a new record from the band, now [...]

Fitting, as I find myself back in my hometown of Louisville, KY, that Laundromatinee.com is featuring the lovely and talented Cheyenne Marie Mize . Mize cut her teeth in the Louisville music scene as a member of the projects Arnett Hollow and Maiden Radio. She also performed in the supporting cast, and as an opening act, for fellow Kentucky-based musicians Ben Sollee & Daniel Martin Moore on their 2010 Dear Companion tour. MP3 : Cheyenne [...]

Probably one of the most beautiful bands I have ever had the pleasure of encountering. Young Galaxy hail from Montreal, that part of Canada that I keep hearing about. Songs like Long Live The Fallen World from the album Invisible Republic totally floor me, Catherine McCandless' vocals is so beautiful, yearning, emotional and strong, yet not over the top like Florence from Florence & The Machine. It starts off as guitar-indie track before the breakdown begins and the drums start pounding and echo-ing, and the bass hammer like an urgent heartbeat, while the drums [...]
