Millions Of Dead Cops – Hey Cop If I Had A Face Like Yours (RIYL Dead Kennedys, Subhumans, JFA)

Millions Of Dead Cops – Hey Cop If I Had A Face Like Yours (RIYL Dead Kennedys, Subhumans, JFA) There are days when you are looking for something new and exciting, and then there are days you just need some no-frills, no bullshit, old fashioned punk rock. Today is one of the latter days, and Million Of Dead Cops 1991 Hey Cop, If I Had A Face Like Yours fits the bill just fine. For those who don't know, Millions of Dead Cops are a punk band formed back in 1979, and play fast, satirical punk rock similar to The Dead Kennedys. While they never got the fame Dead Kennedys reached, they were every bit [...]

Subhumans, Millions of Dead Cops, Defect Defect (Live in Philly 4/4/11)

Millions of Dead Cops playing Philly? There was no way I was going to miss this show. Yesterday, on the beautiful 70 degree afternoon, I headed out to Philly's Barbary to catch MDC open for UK's The Subhumans. I only caught the last song of the opening band, but from what I heard, they sounded tight.Defect DefectI've never heard of these guys before hand, but these Portland dudes ripped

Tonight: Subhumans @ Santos Party House

There are quite a few decent shows tonight but the only one we're listing is Sub-fucking-humans! This might be the most punk rock band in history. And despite being crusty old dudes they will put on one of the best shows you've ever seen. I got to see them at the old Knitting Factory a few years back and it was fucking incredible. Anyone who makes any claim to punk should go see this band tonight

MUSIC! Bare – Hard As Hell EP!

MUSIC! Bare – Hard As Hell EP! Bare 's very anticipated EP on Dieselboy' s Subhuman Records dropped today on Beatport. The EP includes four original songs, all of which contain the pure dirty bass madness that I know all you grime heads like so much. One of the songs, "Gryllz" was the first track to have a clip released 3 months ago has been building up the hype for the EP ever since. Lucky for Miamian's, Bare is going to be in Miami on Friday, March 4th, to play at Eve downtown alongside our favorite locals, , Gooddroid , somejerk [...]

MUSIC! Dieselboy – Unleashed!

MUSIC! Dieselboy – Unleashed! Last week, Dieselboy released a new unleashed mix that is definitely worth sharing with your ears. His mixes always have solid content, clever aesthetics, and intense energy and since they are so rare, this moment is considered a true event. It's 56 tracks were used to craft a deep and extensive 73-minute mix that reveals itself only after repeated listens. With a wide variety of current and classic tracks and edits throughout the entire mix, he wraps up with 25 minutes of fine dubstep that showcases his current taste in the genre and forthcoming tracks from his dubstep [...]

Muffstep

Muffstep Lately we been seeing a lot of unique dubstep coming out of the states, especially the west coast; but that's not to say that the rest of the world isn't nurturing future talent as well. Finland native Konsta Mikkonen, better known as Muffler by EDM enthusiasts, released his latest EP in November, solidifying his acceptance of the challenge to do something original with the genre. The title track Calling Your Name has effectively flipped dubstep on its side. You'll see elements of D&B, hip hop, and even trance in this song. All of these [...]

SUBHUMANS @ THE ECHO

A moment of diehard fan excitement came when the band performed "Susan," a song that had been in storage for nearly 20 years. The band plowed through years of their back catalog, tapping into the nostalgia of anyone deeply familiar with their work.

punked

punked Found this the other day down the local car boot, rubbing shoulders with a load of mediocre drivel, … that lime green Xerox aesthetic getting me all excited…. Thought it was gonna be weirder... but as compilations go, turned out to be a decent slice of mid 80's punk fallout, released on the Melksham based Sub-hu-mans Bluurg stable... says so on the back in a hand drawn calligraphics… Back then, the town made the top ten for the UK's most violent places to live , even if by today's standards [...]

40 Nights of Rock & Roll captures Shout Out Louds, Drive-by Truckers, and more

The modern music scene is a tough one to grasp. There is a myriad of digital outlets today to suggest what you should be listening to. You no longer have to rely on your friends, your most trustworthy music advocates to suggest new bands. Blogs are an endless resource where you don't have to look hard to find a free song to sample each day. From the blogs, to commercials to ringtones we are constantly bombarded by fragmented bits of music. Somewhere along the way the line turned hazy between an appropriate way [...]

New Releases: Bleeding Through, Coheed and Cambria, Freelance Whales

An okay week for releases, guys! Not amazing, but pretty good enough. For the metal fans, Bleeding Through is back with a new one, as is War of Ages . For fans of a whiny, pop-punk version of Rush, we've got Coheed and Cambria 's new album for you. For those that like actual punk, Subhumans has something for you. Freelance Whales and MGMT have new ones, for the hipsters among us. And, for the classically minded, The Philip Glass Ensemble and Jóhann Jóhannsson [...]

Pure, Unadulterated Punk, OR: Automatic For The Individual?

Tonight, I lie Under The Dog and address punk rock fashion(punk again? Yr an emo kid wishing.) So. Last week I messed up and forgot the sex pistols when talking about rebellion in rock music. How could I possibly pretend to have knowledge of this genre? Answer? I don't care if I mess it up. The [...]

O Canada: Red Rubber Ball

O Canada: Red Rubber Ball The Diodes : Red Rubber Ball [ purchase ] When I did an interview with Bob Mould in the early nineties, the former Hüsker Dü guitarist alerted me to almost forgotten Canadian punk band the Diodes. According to Mould, their untitled first album was even better than the Ramones´ debut, as (and I quote) "a guitar solo came by every now and then." [...]

Subhumans - Classic Punk Re-issues

Subhumans - Classic Punk Re-issues Always being a fan of punk, particularly classic U.K. punk, we got pretty frothy at the mouth when we received a smoldering package of classic Subhumans re-issues for our overworked postman Sal. Digging in, we were greeted to six beautifully designed, lovingly created homages to a lost punk legend. Barely giving time for the drool to dry on the corners of our mouths, we got the discs into the quivering hands of our reviewers. Our esteemed punk-meister Woody responded first with his thoughts on three of the discs. Here's Woody . . . [...]

Subhumans - From The Cradle to the Grave CD Review / Citizen Fish is Playing Tonight at the Knitting Factory

Subhumans - From The Cradle to the Grave CD Review / Citizen Fish is Playing Tonight at the Knitting Factory With the economy in the toilet, it seems no surprise that a number of the working class political-punk bands from the 80's have been resurfacing. Reagan Youth just played "Punk Island" and Citizen Fish (featuring 2 members of Subhumans + Jasper + Silas) are playing tonight at the Knitting Factory. From The Cradle to the Grave (Subhumans' second release) originally came out in 1983 and shows the band's songwriting maturing. The band's message hasn't changed substantially across the first two discs but the music on The Cradle to the Grave is [...]

Mad Mackerel's Mix: Story Songs Vol 1

(image borrowed from Marsneedsguitars.com - I was in a rush...)As is often the way with searching and researching music, it was on reading the eMusic biography and interview with Bosque Brown that a comment about Townes Van Zandt being her main inspiration caught my eye. This immediately reminded me of the recent Hear Ya blog posting about a MadMackerel favourite, Steve Earle and his forthcoming
