Here is some old stuff to keep things fresh . In the 1990's, where I grew up these were some of the songs that everyone was listening to. If you are alive, and you're from this planet, then you have heard this one before. Yes sir, that's what they call double Platinum. In 1991 Summertime reached was the #1 Rap Single on the billboard Hot 100. 1991 DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince - "Summertime" [...]
...Burns Half As Long" (mp3s finally added 4.16.07) I apologize for the lateness of this playlist - and no I intend no pun at all there - it's just that this has proven to be a surprisingly emotional and difficult to describe Selection for me. A bunch of nostalgia is tied into this time of the year, and a lot of it got dredged up and put in the blender with current coincidences and shakeups, the end result being just a really really weird and distracting couple of weeks. But here we go. [...]

I might not have mentioned it here, but last night I hit up the Toots and the Maytals show at Alrosa Villa for the GF. Toots, the man who coined the term, "Reggae" stood at the fork in the road where one group of musicians went on to create Ska music and another went on to create Reggae. The GF is a huge fan, but she was out of town, so I bit the bullet and went to this incredible show by one of the forefathers of modern music. I didn't review the show, partly because I'm [...]
I mixed undomondo radio show #5 today, and then I said why not compile a different lovesongs compilation for Valentine's. Most of the songs are loosely related to love and not suitable for a Valentine's of course, but you weren't expecting a fluffy pink Valentine's compilation did you? I'm not ashamed to admit I've listened to Cradle of Filth fervently before they become a lame MTV goth trash , this track is off their debut album and it's an ambient piece which is not really up to the other track's standards but the title [...]

The albums are a roller coaster ride of emotion and bass. Some songs are so chilled out that even you're mom would like them (Waiting for my Ruca, KRS-One), some are the faster ska with killer lyrics (Date Rape, Ebin, What Happened), while still most of them are the Sublime reggae grooves that Bob Marley himself would enjoy (Badfish,Let's Go Get Stoned). The lyrics convey what Sublime was all about. Parties, drugs, and music. Some of you may think a song should be deeper than that, but it was the life they lived, and many of us can [...]

I know it's been a while since the last post, but who would've ever thought that Rutgers football would be the catalyst to influence my decision to resume posting. As for my absence, I will briefly explain that this upcoming week. Right now, all I want to do is talk about "the game." First of all, that was one of the best college football games I've seen in a while. Probably the best since last year's Rose Bowl game between USC and Texas. Nobody, including myself, gave Rutgers much of a chance. I said all day that the [...]

Fuck ratings. I know Sublime was never the most popular band, and lots of folks in the blogosphere seem to have hate for them. But I’ve given up trying to post stuff to pull y’all in. I mean, a few weeks ago the Hype Machine’s top list had three versions of the same song, and before that there was a song by Journey. Journey! What the hell do they need blog attention for? (Okay, I admit it. I do like Don’t Stop Believin’. Shhh.) [...]

Since rock & roll's inception, drugs have been a popular themetic element. While cocaine and heroin may be cred-increasing glamour drugs, the mighty Mary Jane is the ubiquitous less glamorous cousin. Marijuana fuels creative juices without leaving rock stars dead in the back of tour buses. It is also the drug than spans more musical genres than the rest. From punk rock to country to jazz , musicians love to smoke fatties. There are even a couple rock sub-genres dedicated to the influences of said herb. There's stoner rock and the jam band movement , both of [...]

40. Absorbing Man . The bad guy with the coolest name, Crusher Creel, has taken on Thor, Captain American, the Avengers, and even played a part in the 1980s Secret Wars. Whereas many guys are cool in concept but hard to write about, The Absorbing Man stories are consistently satisfying. Cut: 5446/Ball and Chain-Sublime . Ball and Chain-Social Distortion 39. Lex Luthor . [...]

The Greatest 100 Marvel and DC Heroes and Villains. (In my opinion, of course.) Rules and caveats: 1. They must be “super†or costumed and original. That means no GI Joes, or Sgt. Rock, no Thor, Loki, or Dracula, and, sadly, no Red Ronja. 2. They must have been comic heroes, not toys or TV shows that become comics. That means even the good Transformers books are disqualified. 3. The list is weighted [...]
On my way to work this morning I put my iPod on shuffle and listened to each song it gave me, no skipping. Here's the mix my iPod came up with during my commute this morning with a bit of commentary...also, I've got a bit of a short walk to work, thus the "mini" nature of the mix. 1. "Here On Earth" by Love And Rockets - Love And Rockets is rather underrated, maybe that's because they never shied away from dating their sound with sweet woodwind solos [...]
Well it's finally time for spring break! No matter where you go or what you do, the music has to be good! But what songs go with spring break? What tunes would YOU take? So I did some surfing, but search results for spring break were disappointing: iTunes = 2 EP's "Shut Up" & "Big Bad Love" both with six remixes each Google = lots of info on travel deals and packages, photos, road trips and hot spots Yahoo = the usual stuff; parties, hot [...]
