Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive Last February, 13 years after lead singer Bradley Nowell died from an overdose, the remaining two members of Sublime , Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson, appeared at a Sparks, Nev. club with singer Rome, a 20-year-old Northern California native. A My Space blog entry on Gaugh's Del Mar band page called it "Sublime reuniting and playing with new singer Rome." Despite the immediate clamor over the possibility of one of the '90s' biggest groups staples returning with a new singer, [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News In 1995, No Doubt first set foot in Hawaii as the opening act for ska genre-mates 311 in a small, now non-existent Honolulu club. Fourteen years later, the band returned for a headlining visit on Tuesday night, playing to a sold-out crowd of about 9,000 fans at the Neal S. Blaisdell Arena. But for fans who gathered for No Doubt's 2009 reunion -- some with barely enough age to have seen No Doubt's first Hawaii show -- the [...]

Atlanta, Ga.'s It's Elephant's have recently released their sophomore album "Gets Along" on June 26, which follows on the heels of their debut album "Little Trouble in Chinatown" (released in early 2008). After only a year of playing together, the band is already a hometown favorite, and has toured extensively in the southeast as well. They're on the brink of exploding nationally, their debut album garnered positive press in regional outlets that range from Paste Magazine online to Southeast Performer Magazine to University of Florida's student newspaper. Band members include Brent Jay (The Letters Organize), Garrett Range [...]

I think I might make this whole "flashback friday" idea a regular thing. It's fun. If you don't like it don't read on Fridays. Ha. If you can't remember the lyrics to "What I got", I'm afraid we can't be friends. I realized that it has been 13 years (as of May 25th) since Sublime lead singer Bradley Nowell died of a heroin overdose. Sublime was probably my absolute FAVORITE band from when they release the "What I Got" single until at least through 1998....I mean they're still up there now, but back then I was a little [...]
Donny Goines ft. Peter Hadar & Outasight - Sublime (Prod. Buckwild) Yeah I know, I'm late on this but better late than never and also we are giving you the album special by trying to cram everything into one post. I really apologize too because of the track I got to hear Ariel mixing on the [...]

I'm not REALLY sure how old this info is - the videos go back to October of 08, but I hadn't heard word one about Sublime reuniting until I got back to LA - that was only a month ago. I want tour dates, bitches. I don't even care if it's with a new singer . Which it'd obviously have to be, unless they figured out a way to channel spirits or something. &bnsp; A little more about that: [...]
Scarlet Begonias > Smoke Two Joints - Sublime 4.20.95 - Fox Theatre, Boulder, CO
Sublime is one of those bands that whose music is OK, and whose fans make me nuts to the point where it affects my liking of the music. Maybe it's because I'm neither a skateboarder nor a stoner, but the band has always been just alright. Yet the people whom I've met who like Sublime don't just like them, they worship at the band's altar. I like the band's singles as much as mainstream radio appears to, but frankly, very little else of the band's catalog sticks. It's bouncy, fun party music, but there's not much depth beyond [...]
From Convoy to Sean Penn's cinematic interpretation of the Bruce Springsteen song "Highway Patrolman," called The Indian Runner , filmmakers have fairly often looked to narrative songs for inspiration. Sadly, more times than not, they either seem to miss the mark (see: The Gambler ) or end up making a movie that has nothing much to do with the song ( Jumpin' Jack Flash ). However, sometimes they do succeed fairly well and we get an enjoyable movie like Alice's Restaurant or [...]

Welcome students old and new…every Thursday until the sun blazes the Earth, the staff shall pay homage to the most classic indie albums of all time. No countdowns, or top 100 lists, just a weekly gaze into the Music Emissions vault. Let the education begin… Arguably Sublime's best untainted release. Sublime is an American reggae punk band that originated in Long Beach, California. Formed in 1988 they truly only released three studio albums before the untimely death of lead vocalist Bradley Nowell. Having built their fan base on pure touring [...]

If you grew up in the 90s like some of us (no names will be mentioned), then you must be creaming your collective pants. Let's see, we've had Jane's Addiction , Blur , Faith No More , Sublime , Jesus Lizard , Pavement , Orbital and The Libertines all in the news in the past couple months about confirmed or rumored reunions. And that's not even taking into account The Specials or Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young . Well, add one more to your list. The already [...]

Say what you will about Sublime , the band fronted by the late Bradley Nowell was a staple of the early-to-mid 90s. While most people know them because of the hit single "What I Got", from their self-titled third album, the band - rounded out by Bud Gaugh (drums) and Eric Wilson (bass guitar) - earned their status grinding it out in the L.A. punk and ska scene in the years prior. Which made Nowell's death from a heroin overdose shortly before the hit LP's release that much harder to bear considering it went on [...]
It looks like one of my favorite So Cal Ska bands is getting back together, and I am not referring to No Doubt. While No Doubt managed to ease their way into the hearts of pre-pubescent tweens and popular charts, Sublime remained a soundtrack for the older skaters and punks alike. One of my favorite bands in High School (even though I was more of an after the fact fan as I am only 21), I am eagerly anticipating their return. They performed with new lead singer Rome, and will likely begin to work on a new album. So for [...]

"So Del Mar played the gig at Cantina last night in Reno, it was packed and amazing. What really fucking killed it was SUBLIME reuniting and playing with new singer, Rome. We're fucking stoked for Bud, Eric, and Rome—Bud's still playing with Del Mar, and Sublime doesn't have any firm tour plans or anything YET, but we'll keep you posted on their progress." [ Del Mar MySpace Blog via PunkDisasters , where the "It's not Sublime without the long-deceased lead singer Bradley Nowell" quotient in the comments section is hovering around the 75% mark]
Well kids, it happened. Almost four months after rumors of a possible reunion first surfaced , Eric Wilson and Bud Gough took to the stage with new a singer and performed under the name Sublime; the first time doing so since May 25th, 1996. The performance, which took place on Saturday night at the Cantina Los Hombres in Sparks, Nevada, featured a musician named Rome replacing the late Bradley Nowell on vocals. Per Del Mar's MySpace (Gaugh's current outfit, which opened the evening): "So Del Mar played the gig at Cantina [...]
Remember way back in November when rumors popped up that Sublime , thee Sublime, was entertaining the idea of a possible reunion ? Yeah, well, the madness has failed to cease. In fact, if you believe the latest round of rumors, the Long Beach based outfit could be getting back together as soon as tonight. Speculation centers around a show scheduled to take place at Reno, Nevada's Cantina Los Hombres tonight. The bill is said to feature former Sublime drummer Bud Gaugh's new outfit, Del Mar , along with "special guests," ones [...]
It's always a strange thing when you discover music that you think is awesome only to find that when you go away to check on what the artist is up to at the moment, you discover their death that happened several years before, as is the case for the lead singer of this band. This track comes from the bands self-titled post-homously released album which is full of feel-good tracks with a funky, sun-drenched sound. This particular track is my favourite from the album and shares similar traits to Griffith Project's track "First Train Stop" which I posted about [...]

With all of last month's end-of-year fun still very much in our minds, we decided to take a look back at some of our favorite albums from year's past. You know, before 2007, or when CoS was officially up and running. Thus, we tapped David Buchanan to takle a look at the Top 10 Albums of 1996 in our newest edition of List 'Em Carefully… Somewhere between Whitewater and Deep Blue, Electronic Freedom and welfare reform, the formation of Apocalyptica and the demise of Jawbreaker and Sublime (Bradley Nowell, R.I.P), there was music in 1996.
