Brit-pop survivors, Suede played an intimate show at Camden Barfly last week and - seeing how the venue isn't all that big - have posted a live cut from the night online just in case you missed it. The Brett Anderson-led band will release Bloodsports , their first record in 11 years, next week (18 March). You stream that in full via here , and listen to a live recording of classic track 'Film Star' below:

Suede have released a live version of 'Filmstar', from their successful 1997 album Coming Up , as a free download, ahead of the release of their sixth studio record Bloodsports (due out on March 18th). The track was recorded during their set at the Camden Barfly for an XFM session in aid of the War Child charity. Bloodsports is the first record from Suede in over ten years, and has been garnering wide critical acclaim. You can stream the record here , and download the live version of 'Filmstar' [...]
...with a new song from Suede , taken from their new album Bloodsports . It's out on March 18th, and this one here shows that the band is back to old form. Ha, the good, old Brit-Pop-days!

Norman Wong Increasingly, Friday posts are for clearing off the decks of whatever hasn't gone out earlier in the week, but that doesn't mean the content isn't quality - this ain't no fire sale, son. But it also doesn't mean I'm not giving some stuff away. Because I am. Earlier this week, Toronto electro-operatic sensation Austra announced details of their second album, to be entitled Olympia and due out June 18. And because they believe in deeds, not words, they also made the first single from the new record available [...]

Click here to stream the new Suede album, "Bloodsports", via NPR Tyler says: Well done. As forgettable as I found the Tears to be, and solidly unfulfilling as Brett Anderson's solo work has been, I didn't have high hopes for new Suede material (though I would absolutely welcome a US Tour that includes Denver, from Suede.) I've been proven wrong. It's got passion and well crafted tunes. Ironically enough, the entire "Bloodsports" album sounds like The Tears' best (and least forgettable) track, "The Ghost of You" - which I've included below. On [...]

Roger Sargent I find it equally amusing/confounding that veteran artists who return after long hiatuses or breakups are almost always initially met with open arms - my favourite band when I was a teenager is back! - but it's rarely long before that goodwill starts turning a bit sour. Tour the greatest hits that everyone thinks they want to hear, and it's all "you're just cashing in on my nostalgia!" but have the audacity to record new material, and with few exceptions the best they can hope for is a tepid, "it's not as good as your old [...]

Suede is streaming their new album Bloodsports on NPR and The Guardian sites and it's sounding amazing! Varied sounds, meaty playing and proper melodies. Lyrically, Brett is on the mark, especially on the gorgeous album opener, Barriers . First faves are Hit Me, It Starts And Ends With You and For The Strangers . There's been much made of the fact that they're releasing this album at the same time their icon David Bowie is releasing [...]

It's amazes me that I didn't really know how much I missed Suede until I began listening to the new album Bloodsport (out March 19th). This is the band's first record in more than a decade, and everything you've come to expect is there: the slick hooks, those big Brit pop guitars, Brett Anderson's unmistakable vocals. Well almost everything as, sadly founding guitarist Bernard Butler is still missing from the equation. Continue reading »
Suede were a ripsnorting and hyped-into-infinity British glam-rock band who inadvertently birthed Britpop, at least in their homeland's popular imagination, around the time they released their excellent self-titled debut album nearly two decades ago. The band kept releasing interesting and varied albums until 20022s relative dud A New Morning , upon which time they broke up. But they got back together to play shows in 2010, and now their new album Bloodsports looms. On the album, their celestial cocaine-rock swagger remains startlingly undiminished, and frontman Brett Anderson still has falsetto-laced hooks for days, even if it's a [...]

by Bill Pearis Was there an element of fear going into this? When did the moment click when you thought 'let's do an album'? Was it because you didn't want to be playing old material? Brett Anderson: We definitely didn't want to be doing greatest hits round and round, that's just a living death. We definitely wanted the band to have a contemporary currency, for want of a better word. Mat Osman: I think there was a completely different point [...]

Windish Agency And we wrap the week with (again) some link housecleaning from overseas, led by the next great Scottish synth-pop - if not spelling - hope, CHVRCHES . The trio, who placed a commendable fifth in the BBC's Sound Of 2013 poll, don't offer a groundbreaking sound but inviting electronic textures, sweetly earnest vocals, and big pop hooks really don't ever go out of style. They recently told an audience that their full-length debut shouldn't be expected until the Fall, but they're hoping to keep the excitement that started building around the [...]
Suede will play a warm up gig ahead of their Alexandra Palace gig, at Nottingham Rock City on Thursday 28th March. The Alexandra Palace show is on Saturday 30th March. The band’s new album Bloodsports is released on March 18th. The single ‘ It Starts And Ends With You ’ is available on the same day.
We've spent most of the week trawling the depths of our record collection , but now it's time to direct our attention to the albums we might be adding to said collection in the next few weeks — March is looking pretty decent for new releases, and as ever, we've selected the ten albums we reckon will be most worth listening to over the course of the month (along with all the other notable albums scheduled for release, good and bad.) We're always interested to know what our readers are going to be listening to, too, so do let us [...]
