If an album is released by a band composed of none of its original members, does it still make a sound on the charts? We'll find out: the Sugababes ' Sweet 7 was just released yesterday.

I suppose I'm not the only pop fan and girlband lover to feel a bit weird about the Sugababes . It's not that I don't like them anymore (or at least their past songs), but it's just that I don't feel comfortable supporting a band that's no longer what it used to be. I'm not talking about the recent (third) line-up change, when founding member Keisha Buchanan was ousted out of the band and former Eurovision hopeful J ade Ewen replaced her in a matter of minutes. Last week was a bit of a rocky one. Two big releases in the shape of the Gorillaz album and the Goldfrapp single has decidedly mixed weeks, with the former sitting pretty at number 1 in the album charts for most of the week before being deposed by a grieving Boyzone at the last minute, whilst the latter single missed the Top 40 altogether thanks to a dearth of the airplay. The terrifying Liars album missed out completely, which is how it should be really, we're not sure how society would benefit [...]

And it's that she's missing out of all of the things the Sugababes singer leaves behind when she is on tour. It looks like Heidi Range is truly British through and through: she believes that they don't make tea anywhere in the world like they do in Britain. This is what she tweeted on the matter: "Home sweet home with a nice cup of tea, it's the simple things you miss when you've been away." How come Heidi Range doesn't have some flown from Heathrow over to where she might be that particular day? It couldn't possibly be too expensive [...]

In theory, 2010 should have been an easy year for Sugababes . While the queens of credible pop Girls Aloud take at least a year off and non-entities like The Saturdays splash around in the shallow end, the trio had built a solid reputation on the back of a run of fantastic singles and none too shabby albums. The problem is that, of course, that their golden period ended with the departure of Mutya Buena in 2005. Even so, there have still been enough bright moments since to suggest that they could at least make a decent showing. [...]

The battle for the Sugababes' name is on. Ousted member Keisha Buchanan is taking to the courts and everyone is wondering, first, why she decided to do so and, second, why does she think the name is attached to her and not Mutya Buena or Siobhan Donaghy. But, she is working hard on the new album. Let's hope the solo matter with overshadow Amelle. Yes, one of the original founders and the only one that lasted throughout the career is mad that Amelle Barrebah took the band away from her.
