5 Songs is a weekly series where we point out the strange, the grand, and the unique connections between our favorite songs. Let's get weird. Words by Chris Welcome to another special edition of 5 Songs. Today we will leap headlong into some demo collections, which is like jumping off the nice clean path into the scraggly briar-country of obsessive music collecting—C'mon! [...]

Sugarpill & AlexB. team up as Swordfight to bring us a fine mix of lazer-crunk madness and soothing, bass-filled melodies. This'll be a part of the Disciples of Headtron: Vol. I mixtape, which takes all the West Coast crunkers and compiles 'em for fine tuning. Let's just say if they're all as basstastic as this, I'll be fiending fo more! Swordfight ( Sugarpill , ChrisB. ) [...]

We've been down with The Weeknd for at least a minute now, and here's Abel Tesfaye getting remixed by LA dj Sugarpill. Sugarpill takes Wicked Games' already down-to-business bass and amplifies it from R n Dub into just straight Dub. The bass pounds and wobbles way more than the original track, and The Weeknd's vocals are chopped up duly. If you like it hard, but don't mind letting your love for smoothness show, then this track is for you. thanks indieshuffle The Weeknd - Wicked Games (Sugarpill's [...]

If for some reason you missed the "House of Balloons" mixtape put out by the Weeknd a little while back backtrack here and go check it out immediately. If you already know and love these tunes then here are a couple of glitched out remixes of 3 of my favorite tracks "What You Need" and "Wicked Games." Click image to download full album Sounds like: Gladkill, Jupit3r, Goldrush "The Weeknd - Wicked Games (Sugarpill's Slippery Souldbass Remix) " What's so good? I love the term "future bass." I feel like it fits so perfectly with the style that glitch artists put forth. "Future sex bass" sounds a little more appropriate at times with all of the sexuality that oozes from these tracks, but [...]

Click image to download track Sounds like: NiT GriT, Sugarpill "Mimi Page - Mimi Page - Come What May - (GoldRush Remix)" What's so good? I'm getting a little tired of the in-your-face brand of dubstep. I've heard enough mach-chainsaw sounds that it no longer manages to have the same effect on me anymore. GoldRush brings a lot more emotion to the table, claiming to create "music that inspires Romanticism through dubstep influenced composition." This L.A.-based producer [...]

I was first introduced to Who Cares year ago from a friend who heard their music in a snowboard film. Their debut album The LP was a very impressive underground hip hop album by many standards. It features a compilation of chill and conscious hip hop tracks that they recorded between 2001 and 2003. It was hard to choose my favorites off the album but here are two highlights that I believe you all would like. [Audio Clip: View Full Post To Listen] Purchase: Who Cares - November [...]
I've got to get this off my chest... I'm a SoundCloud fanatic. Not only do they have a shitload of good DJ/producers, but the site is designed well to help you find the music you like (it's the small things that matter) . Yea, it's still overcrowded with dubstep, remixes and mashups - I mean, look at all the choices here - but more & more types of artists are uploading their tracks everyday. To pay tribute to my SoundCloud fanaticism and the lovely people who are to blame, I decided [...]

SubSynthesis.com and GlitchDrop.com put out a compilation album FOR FREE yesterday packed full of tracks from some of my favorite up and coming bass and glitch producers. You can also choose to donate to a charitable organization that is part of the relief effort in Japan in exchange for the album at their bandcamp page. (DO IT). Below is my favorite track off of the release by a producer I've been hyping up a lot recently (Gladkill), as well as a player to preview the entire release. If you're overwhelmed, make sure to check out the [...]

HUMP DAY TIME. I'm kind of busy today though so I'll make it quick. Here are five more remixes that you need to have in your library. I've separated them into two types to make it easier for you depending on the type of music you like best. The Roksonix and Sugarpill remixes are my personal favorites of the bunch: Remixes For The Masses: Adele - Rolling In The Deep (Jamie XX Remix) Kings of Leon - Use Somebody (RAC Remix) [...]

I know I already put up the Dubstep Duesday post earlier today, but I still haven't gotten my bass fix. I'm not a huge mixtape person just because they take a long stretch of time to really enjoy, but Sugarpill released his MindMachine mixtape yesterday and this one is worth downloading. It's loaded with hip-hop influenced dubstep that is perfect for a quick burn to load into the car stereo. Download it by clicking the down arrow on the right side of the player, or just listen to it here: Sugarpill - [...]

A week or two ago I put up a post about Stephan Jacobs, and a few days ago one of the labels he works with released an entire free EP of music from their various artists appropriately titled "We Are The Future." The EP features tracks from artists like Minnesota, Stephan Jacobs, Samples, Goldrush, Chris B., Dr. Knobz, Ruff Hauser, and Sugarpill. You can download the entire release as a zip file by clicking the link below: Gruntworthy Presents: We Are The Future (MUST SAMPLE)

Introducing slutty new wave/electro duo Kids Of 88, from New Zealand, who are Sam McCarthy and Jordan Arts. They describe their music as "a cross between a late 80s police drama intro theme and a sophisticated super hussy". With sleazy basslines and mind-numbingly catchy hooks, Kids Of 88 are all about poking tongues and making sweaty suggestive inuendos. Stream their new album " Sugarpills " on Soundcloud. Also, check out My House and Downtown videos [...]
