Get To Know Undeground Indian EDM Culture

Get To Know Undeground Indian EDM Culture Indian music has been an inspiration to many electronic producers throughout the world. The infamous Goa- Psy- Trance scene has inspired artists from Above & Beyond who named their record label Anjunabeats after the Goan rave beach, Anjuna. Israeli duo, Infected Mushroom are also regulars in the Indian EDM scene. Many big name Indian DJs such as the likes of Nikhil Chinapa, Pearl, Midival Punditz have all emerged to be up and coming acts from the sub-continent's dance music scene. Festival like Sunburn has made India a huge International touring hot spot for DJs all over. However, today [...]

My favorite electronic outfit from India, Sulk Station , recently debuted a new song of their's at the Bflat Bar in Bangalore. Apparently, 'Suppressed' is a brand new song from their upcoming EP. Be sure to watch out for this. Spooky, eerie, broken-beat vibes on check... ______________________________ ______________________________ _____________________ Previously :: Interview :: DECKast #34 x Sulk Station

Review: Till You Appear – Sulk Station

Living in a post-internet world has some decidedly interesting consequences. The structure of the internet and social media has had a radical effect on how we come across, share and consume content. Much has been said about the blurring of boundaries and the access to diverse cultures, and about the hyperactive and attention-deficit nature of media consumption on the internet. This has led to a bit of a paradigm shift in how we create and relate to music and culture. A music review isn’t the right place for a sociology lecture, so excuse me for over-simplifying a bit [...]

TL Mazumdar Nominated for Bremer Jazzpreis 2012

Germany-based jazz fusion musician TL Mazumdar has been nominated for the  Bremer Jazzpreis 2012 . This could be a significant award for Mazumdar who is going to be performing at Blue Frog, Mumbai on August 8 and at The TLR Cafe, New Delhi on August 16. We spoke to Mazumdar a couple of months ago (check out the interview  here ) and among other things he told us what it was like to perform with musicians such as Sulk Station and Jivraj Singh (of PINKNOISE and Skinny Alley ) at Counter Culture, Bangalore [...]

Interview :: DECKast #34 x Sulk Station

Interview :: DECKast #34 x Sulk Station My new favorite up and coming electronic music act from Bangalore, India, comprises of Rahul Giri and Tanvi Rao a duo forming the name Sulk Station . I posted about their most recent release, Till You Appear , not too long ago. They were gracious enough to take some time out and create a mix for this issue of the DECKast and answer a couple questions I had for them. The short 25 min mix seeps with head-bopping curiosity and a hook of relaxing wind-down tunes that might [...]

Sulk Station - 'Contentment'

Sulk Station - 'Contentment' I was recently introduced to Bangalore electronic/trip-hop duo, Sulk Station . The emotional electronic influenced group consists of electronic mechanic, Rahul Giri and atmospheric vocalist, Tanvi Rao. Earlier this year they brought to the world their debut release, Till you appear , a heart-felt 10 numbered broken diary story. The duo's ability to transport the unknowing mind to their highly translucent and meditative state of sound is absolutely gripping and impressing. Although its easy to unsuccessfully rip the sound and styles of Portishead, Radiohead, and James Blake; there's no doubt that the sound that [...]

Interview: TL Mazumdar

Kolkata Tapes #2: T.L. Mazumdar
TL Mazumdar is currently working on his sophomore studio album, playing some shows in Europe, and plans to visit India soon. He's based in Germany, for now, and has lived in North Africa, UK and India while growing up - all which have contributed to his musical influences. His debut release,  4 Walls V.2 (stream here ), features a heavy jazz palette and a soundscape that's the product of someone who's well traveled. The Bengali musician has played live on television with Nelly Furtado, been in a band with LA-based bebop trumpeteer Gary Barone [...]

Gig Preview: Sulk Station @ Out Of The Box, New Delhi

Following the release of their debut album  Till You Appear , acclaimed Bangalore duo Sulk Station shall perform at Out Of The Box this Wednesday. If their recent shows are anything to go by, they’ll be playing the record in its entirety. When asked about the performance, here’s what one-half of the group, Rahul Giri, had to say 'Cause it’s an album promo, we find ourselves bound to the album songs. The album in many ways is a slightly toned down version of our live set, but it won’t be radically different. We trip [...]

Interview: Sulk Station

Interview: Sulk Station The most notable indie music currently doing the rounds in the country has been made on computers at home. These bedroom artists share an aesthetic far from the venue-centric Indian indie ‘establishment’, opting to juggle diverse influences and base their sound on experimentation. The self-described trip-hop/‘mellowdramatic’ duo from Bangalore, Sulk Station , are newly visible proponents of this sub-scene. Though they’ve only surfaced now, they’ve been around and unknown for three years until the release of their full-length debut, Till You Appear (more info here ). I got in touch with principal beatmaker Rahul Giri to [...]
