Following this list from respected Irish Independent Journalist John Meagher in yesterday's edition of Day & Night http://dayandnightmag.ie/in-th is-weeks-day-night-john-meaghe rs-top-30-irish-albums-of-all- time/ I've decided to write something I've been meaning to do for over a year and present .... My Favourite 30 Irish Albums of All Time 30. Declan O'Rourke - Since Kyabram [2004] Declan's debut album is full of great tunes such as 'Love is the Way', 'Galileo', 'Your World' and my [...]

Euro 2012 Special As we prepare for the potential madness that is the Euro 2012 in Poland & The Ukraine here's three of my favourite tunes about the beautiful game! The Sultans of Ping - Give Him A Ball ... http://www.sultansofping.com/ A song about the skills of Roy Keane this great pop/punk tune that's full of bass and attitude is a perfect song for football fans! The Hitchers - Strachan One of [...]
I first realised that Irish bands could hold their own in the music world when I discovered bands like Rollerskate Skinny, Mexican Pets, Whipping Boy, Compulsion. Some of the Irish music from that time still mean an awful lot to me. Here's a mix of songs that are around a decade old or older that you can still find on the internet and in some cases can still buy. I hope you find a few good songs in the mix! Happy St. Patrick's Day! Juniper - The World is Dead [...]

Another request this time, and one I can't refuse. Not only do I love the Sultans of Ping, but the request came from my big brother Ron, whose old copy of Casual Sex in the Ciniplex is pretty much the reason I was one of a handful of 14 years olds who knew all the words to Where's Me Jumper? Every time an election comes around and people start talking about the party manifesto my mind stops paying attention, ignoring what anyone says, as everything is replaced by "I like a manifesto, put it to the test-o", and I'm [...]

Three of the best Irish bands of the '90s went out on tour together around the country around Christmas. Here are Kieran Frost's photos from The Savoy in Cork. Sultans of Ping @ Savoy Theatre, Cork by Kieran Frost [...]

Formed in 1988 as a four-piece, Cork's Sultans of Ping mixed high energy punk-rock with pop sensibilities, knocking out some pleasantly stunning material in the process - the most successful of which was their second single, "Where's Me Jumper?" The somewhat comical track was quite simple really. A loud bash about losing one's jumper as a discotheque, would see the band welcomed by Epic Records

The one major absence from the usual Christmas listings in Dublin is The Sultans of Ping. For the last few years The Sultans have been playing legendary Christmas gigs around the country. I caught their gig in The Academy last year which was great fun. Here's their contribution to Christmas Music! The Sultans of Ping - Xmas Bubblegum Machine http://www.sultansofping.com/ The good news is that the band are still gigging occasionally and there's hope yet if you've never had the pleasure of being in the crowd [...]

It's a big night for the country tomorrow. We are a goal down against a decent France side and in dire need of Salvation in Paris! The Cranberries - Salvation [Live In Paris] What are our chances? The big hope is a lucky score reversal from last Saturday and then going through on penalties with Shay being the hero! However the chance of this happening is very poor! Enda Reilly - Chance 3 [...]
The best thing about day one of the Hard Working Class Heroes festival was that so many people were talking about Irish music. All the bands I seen were playing for their lives last night. Great night. NoLady Aine O'Doherty formally known as the act 'Onya' from Donegal has recruited a fine band and are now 'NoLady'. They make cheeky alternative pop music which can easily be compared to The Sultans of Ping. City of Angels http://www.myspace.com/cityofa ngelsdub [...]

So charges were brought after last month's pre-arranged dance between Green Street and the ICF. Sadly it wasn't left on the street and some displayed their idiocracy inside the ground: We should try to find out the name of this bloater so we can name and shame him. I'm sure he's been banned for life but the world need to know he is so that we can point and laugh. A spokesman for Millwall was shocked , [...]

We got to see the now traditional Christmas Sultans of Ping gig a few weeks back and it was great fun. Niall is such a mad frontman. Support was from The Pale who were brilliant. It was so great to hear Butterfly live. In my persuit of Irish music online I came across a Sultans site [unsure if this site is affiliated directly with the band] which contains almost every Sultans song for download. The only thing you don't get is the amazing debut album which you're encouraged to go buy! I have included below some of [...]

Just going through the draw, clearing things out and posting the remaining song that have a vague footie + music + Chrimbo connection. Before I add these a reminder of some from this time last year: » Emlyn Hughes and Suzanne Dando - but not in the way you imagine. This one is so sugary and sticky it... well ok maybe like you think. » Half Man Half Biscuit - the official F&M musical team (because without them... not much of this would have been possible) - All they want is [...]
This weekend I will be seeing four of Ireland's best artists live. Frank & Walters Whelans tonight! After All: The Sultans of Ping with support from The Pale Saturday Academy Veronica: Damien Dempsey at the Button Factory Sunday. First gig with my twin boys! Damo & The Dubliners - Dirty Old Town

The Pale have been confirmed as support for the now annual Sultans of Ping Christmas gig in the Acadamy, 20th December 2008. Should make for a great gig. If The Pale are new to you, check out their MySpace, website, and the two mp3's linked here from their website. The Pale - Chocolate Factory The Pale - Lady Gregory Website MySpace Tour: 21 Nov 2008 20:30 The Quays Galway, Galway 20 [...]

Pinch me. Somebody please. At least tell me I'm not dreaming. Or delusional. Or something. Because I can honestly say that I never thought I'd be writing these words. And meaning them. Not in 2007 anyway. It just seems crazy to say it. But it's true, Sultans Of Ping performed one of the gigs of the year. Yes, this year. It just seems so odd to have said that. And sure, you could dismiss it as nostalgia. As the ravings of recently turned 30 year old desperate to cling [...]

Been away a long time Almost 2OOO years I've been away a long time I've drunk a lot of beer Jesus back on the street again,oh no Jesus back on his feet again,oh no The Sultans of Ping - Back in a Tracksuit (1993) Playing the Main Stage at Mantua on Saturday (8.15pm), the band with the second best Irish song of all time (as voted for by listeners to the Ian Dempsey show on Today FM in 2004. No doubt, [...]
