I didn't know this was a dance camp. Moshi Moshi / Apricot, 2012 7.0 / 10.0 Summer Camp, the duo of couple Jeremy Warmsley and Elizabeth Sankey, came out of nowhere last year with the very catchy nostalgia-inducing Welcome To Condale that didn't really break new ground in the indie pop [...]
After a thin week for new albums during the July 4th holiday, things got back to normal last week with a hefty new batch of fresh releases from Dirty Projectors, Twin Shadow, Deleted Scenes, Digitalism, Summer Camp, Husky, Communist Daughter and more. Plus, after three decades, the post-punk/alt rock band Mission of Burma sound better [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Summer Camp's Elizabeth Sankey and Jeremy Warmsley are everything you'd want fun camp counselors to be (letting you eat chocolate past lights out, telling ghost stories, etc). As a band they are double the fun. On their five song EP Always , the pair deliver a synth pop dose of sunshine that will have you feeling warm all year long. From the sprightly "Always" to the sultry "City", Always is 19 minutes of heaven.

I like a couple of EPs just released this week, one by Minneapolis band Communist Daughter and the other from U.K. duo Summer Camp . Communist Daughter's Lions & Lambs is a real earnest piece of work that will appeal to fans of Bowerbirds, Sharon Van Etten and the like. Summer Camp, on the other hand, offers up another platter of blissful synth-pop. Both EPs are recommended.

Despite the festival kicking off tomorrow (musically on Friday) - Latitude Festival have added a few acts to the line-up - mainly due to a couple of acts having to pull out. In place of The Phenomenal Handclap Band (they've split up) they've brought in Summer Camp and Daniel Avery (two 405 favourites). Meanwhile, Iain Banks's slot is taken by the must-see interview between Professor Brian Cox, Professor John Butterworth and Robin Ince. For more information on the festival, check out our guide here .
If Summer Camp's 2011 debut full-length, Welcome to Condale , was the London-based duo's "love letter to the days of being a teenager" and an ode to the 1980s, then the Always EP is a documentation of the summer a few years into college, the one where you don't quite fit in at home anymore, and your friends have moved away, and you spend the hot July days pining for the fall semester. The bright, blue eyeshadow and wavy, blonde hair have been traded in for thick, [...]

I wish I could be in Summer Camp . Lack of musical ability and pessimism preventing me from being near 'lovely' enough aside, the reality is that I'd never (ever) be able to pull off that darkly tinted sweetness, nor would I ever be cool enough to be part of indie's most charming Mr and Mrs. Summer Camp for me, are the kind of band I would have pretended to be part of if I was an American teenager in the 80s. The type I'd buy short shorts behind my mom's back, so that I had appropriate attire for [...]

I'll admit, this song gets pretty awkward when, with almost no hint, it switches from grove mode to mellow rap. The occurrence doesn't make much sense to me, but oddly enough, it works. The vocals are clear and driven, and Hal Williams' (Odd Future) production is strong.
Although we now have a regular Video of the Day post on Mad Mackerel, we still can't keep up with all that we're being sent and here are a few more of the videos we would like to have featured well before now. Face-melting UK four piece Trails are making quite a name and quite a noise for themselves. Latest video is for new track Is My Purple Your Purple? , which they are also giving away as a free download. a [...]

An EP is always an opportunity for an artist to explore new sounds that are outside of the comfort zone. On the latest leak from Summer Camp ’s upcoming Always EP, “City” takes us to the dark heat of the city for a rugged love story. Elizabeth Sankey pleas for her true lover to return to her, and no matter how much she loves on with her life, there’s only one person for her. This is easily the darkest and most seductive I’ve heard this duo, and I like it a lot. I mean there’s [...]

Around July, my love/hate relationship with D.C. boils over to a fiery loathing as I scurry from my air conditioned bedroom onto the sweltering 8AM macadam to the brief reprieve of a (sometimes) air conditioned metro car, before walking the excruciatingly humid ten minutes to my office. However, all pit stains aside, there is something to be said for summer in the capital city. “City,” the new track off of British nostalgic pop duo Summer Camp from their forthcoming Always EP deviates radically from their earlier light-hearted, sun-drenched material to produce an [...]
