My neighbor has the loveliest pool. It's set near the woods, with a very natural design, so that when you're down there you can hear the breeze rustling through the trees, the birds singing, and watch the butterflies cavorting through her many flowers and bushes. Had a great time last night at one of the final shows at Raleigh's Bickett Gallery. The night opened with the Deleted Scenes , followed by Pittsboro's The Never , and then a real highlight of the evening was when Billie Karel and Roger Gupton sat down for an impromptu acoustic performance. I think this was, in some part, in honor of what Molly Miller, Bickett's founder, has done for this community. Karel's gorgeous vocals intertwined with Roger's acoustic guitar and harmonies made for a truly beautiful experience. I 'm brand new to Summer Hymns, so the huge back catalogue of free, downloadable tracks on both the band and label websites might take some time to work through. Also, the critical commentary, like the idea that their recent album Backward Masks is "the Summer Hymns record you always thought they'd make" doesn't do much for me because I don't know what they're supposed to sound like.
