by teepoo Billie and the Vision and the Dancers is hella a name. The group is from Malmö, Sweden but Summercat charted them at #1 in Spain after appearing in a Spanish TV ad. It's one of those tongue-and-cheek pop songs that make the perfect song for sync license. Add in some horns and you got something fun and addictive. I love the guitar lick that is almost a melody unto itself. I can't stop singing the chorus. I wanna be with you tonight, tonight, [...]

One fine day I came home from work to find that my mother had turned off our interwebs. Brief interludes at the local library just were not enough to sustain my Facebook Generation self. So here I am at my pseudo-sister's house crashing on her couch and stealing her neighbor's internet. Yeah, she doesn't have her own, either. At least it's cooler than sitting in my car at the end of my country driveway stealing MY neighbor's internet. Oops. The blogosphere likes the Ting Tings. I like the Ting Tings. So does the cool [...]

It's been a few months since I threw together a podcast, so I figured it was about time for another one. Besides, I've been working diligently on a mix-tape for a new local pal, Brett Sandström, whom I met after purchasing a Tullycraft single on eBay - he being the seller, both of us being astonished to find other Tullycraft fans in Skagit County. What began as a modern tribute to light garage pop ultimately changed direction to hint at songs that fit a sweltering, hot summer day. This is [...]

I have some really great news, you won't even be able to believe it. I am the proud owner of a new kitten. She is very cute and looks kind of like a snow leopard. I named her Georgina Harrison because that is totally how I roll. I can't help it! Anyway, I'm very happy about this new development in my life, and I just want to think about flowers and sunshine (from the comfort of an air-conditioned room, of course). So, please listen to this mix I downloaded, it's pretty, wh...
Running a long-standing independent label is really hard work. Fortunately, unlike their matress-making namesakes, Slumberland Records don't know when to lie down. Here is a nice dummy guide to their label and a mixtape to get you started.

I really dislike doing The Graboid is such huge chunks like this, but rather than skipping weeks, this is how it'll have to be done until I get this back to being a weekly posting. That being said, there have been a ton of great releases over the past few weeks with one in particular from last week that I've been extremely excited about: the self-titled LP from Black Tambourine . It isn't exactly "new" material, but a complete compilation of their material from the early 90s (they only lasted two years). [...]

finally a new podcast, though crayola actually recorded this last halloween - it's just taken me this long to get it online - prompted by the fact that he's just sent me another. so look out for that in a week. meanwhile, this one is brimming with ace tunes, as always. ::: labor exchange band - anti-dam militia's march ::: birthday party - nick the stripper ::: summer cats - fulton girls ::: harry pussy - 1986 ::: yat-kha - karangailyg kara hovaa ::: host - young and bulletproof ::: international karate plus - give it [...]
An odd thing about indie pop is that wherever in the world it originates from, it all shares the same kind of sound. Not necessarily just on a purely musical level, but even in terms of the words or even the vocal tones. It's pretty difficult to separate British indiepop from American indiepop or even Swedish indiepop. Just to mix things up, today we have Summer Cats who are from Melbourne in Australia, not that you could tell. If I had to point to a similar sounding band, my first thought would be Pants Yell!, and Boston is [...]
I'll regret not being at this for a very long time. Possibly forever.

Friday started at Club DeVille at another Brooklyn Vegan event. Greenpoint, Brooklyn band Twin Sister were playing an early set at noon. A Lunch time gig, or breakfast rather, for the late risers in Austin is a toughone . The band sounded ok, maybe a little sleepy. I really like their freely downloadable ep Vampires with Dreaming Kids, but they didn't play my favoirte song from it, the Cocteau Twins-like Ginger. Up to this point corporate America had been hidden from [...]

First-time South by Southwest attendees Summer Cats made the journey all the way from Australia to show the world their unique brand of sweet indie pop. Having already toured the West Coast and points beyond, the Cats already have an idea about how us Americans roll. After performing at IODA/LimeWire Store's Opening Day Bash , LWMB had a chat with three of the band's members and found out what they hate most about traveling in the U.S. of A.

IODA/LimeWire Store’s Opening Day Bash held at Emo’s Annex kicked off promptly at noon with a tender, heartfelt set from Les Shelleys , a wonderful duo consisting of Los Angeles-based singer/songwriters Tom Brosseau and Angela Correa. Philadelphia's A Sunny Day In Glasgow were up next and tore through a shimmering set of glistening indie-pop. If this were 1985, this band would be signed to 4AD and touring with Lush or Cocteau Twins. Featuring members of ex-Broken Social Scene-ster Jason Collett's backing band, Canada's Zeus strutted their stuff, playing Americana-drenched songs from their terrific Say [...]

There was an interesting array of passengers on the 32-minute flight last night from Dallas/Ft. Worth to Austin. Two rows in front of me was a band of long-hairded dudes who all looked like Frank Zappa. To my left was a girl who spoke with a thick Cockney accent ("Hold your fookin' tounge!" she told her friend as she edited a track on her pink laptop) who was probably a DJ. Behind me, an older, professor-looking Texan struck up a conversation with a middle-aged recording studio owner from Oxford, England who was heading to South by Southwest to "get back [...]
The Morning Benders echo brutal bricks. This week on The Needle Drop, it's the latest album from California's The Morning Benders, Big Echo. This LP takes a big hint from the early days of rock and roll, but not the dirty underbelly of the genre. Rather, it's the high-production end, influenced by guys like Phil Spector. Grizzly Bear member Chris Taylor gets some co-production credits on Big Echo,
