She & Him DAY 3: SUNDAY She & Him make music for an eternal springtime, when the temperature is warm enough to go riding with the top (or at least the windows) rolled down and the radio turned up. They occupy an alternate universe where the saddest of songs feel as warm as sun showers; the rain may be coming down, but somewhere nearby, everything looks bright. What began as a fascinating, no-strings attached collaboration evolved into a bona fide, touring band, and She & Him are here to stay. [...]
These guys got me all-a-smitten at the start of June with their sumptuous "Automatic", which then led me on a mission to find more of their music, culminating in me splooging over the interwebs and posting three more of their songs and a couple of videos. Even though this found it's way online last week and I'm a few days late, it's still very much worth the post, so give it a listen and watch the video for it too. It'll be out soon on their cassette EP via Mirror Universe . Yuck [...]
Sunday is a day of rest for most people. It certainly is for me, especially today, which sees me resting my weary head in Barcelona, and enjoying a healthy dose of sunshine to boot. The perfect antidote for the after effects of a damn good Sonar festival . Music is an essential part of any Sunday recovery session of course, regardless of where you are in the world. And on a nice summer's day (at least from where I'm sitting), a spot of jazz seems like just the ticket. Thankfully, I've been sitting on the [...]
I literally just started listening to this band about 47 minutes ago. I was going through my Google Reader playing catch-up and between Gorilla vs. Bear and Transparent and I'm now in love with Yuck. When you hear a song like "Automatic" you have no choice but to fall in love with it, it's such a beautifully touching pull-at-the-heartstrings kinda song, but compared to their few other songs it's not similar. The others are more lo-fi and raw, maybe that's down to the recording process or maybe it's intentional, but one thing's for sure; I'm [...]

On their Myspace page , Pilsen's Ornery Little Darlings describe their sound as "a highly improbable ornery-as-hell-love-child between Billie Holiday and Lou Reed." After going a few rounds with their debut EP Ooh La La , I can say the equation works, but it's not my go-to shortcut to describe what I heard during the album's brief 21 minute runtime. No, to me, the record sounds at times quite similar to the alt-country sound of Fear and Whiskey -era Mekons. Exhibit [...]

There's honestly no better spot to hit up if you need some new vinyl, DVDs, cassettes or even CDs (remember those?) than the CHIRP Record Fair. There are going to be a great deal of local vendors at the event including Groove Distribution LLC , Mr. Peabody Records and even Chicago imprint Bloodshot Records . For a complete list of fair vendors, [...]

Sunday Spotify Slaylist: Paul Gray
Because of the tragic death of Slipknot bassist, Paul Gray this week, we thought it would be an apt tribute to Paul to re-post the Slaylist we made to mark the tenth anniversary of the release of Slipknots' self-titled debut album. What follows is what we had to say back then - after the events of [...]
ATR Takeover Week: The DHR Slaylist
There was only ever really one option for the Slaylist this week - a full-on, flat-out, brain-pummeling Slaylist torn straight out the Digital Hardcore Recordings back catalogue. We've got some classic ATR, some hidden gems from the label vaults, all wrapped up with healthy amount of good old fucked-up noise. Listen to our Sunday Spotify Slaylist: [...]

HEAVIEST. WEEKEND. EVER.
It's not often we say this - fuck, it's probably the only time we've ever said it - but this weekend London is just Too Damn Metal. Not only are EyeHateGod playing at ULU tomorrow (Oh. Hells. Yes!), but the number of metal events going on this weekend that we actually want to go to [...]

Sunday Spotify Slaylist: Easter Special
It's Easter - if you've got any sense you're in a chocolate-coma right now. Unless you've like our man Tom Dare, in which case you're emailing us Satanic heavy metal Slaylists of the most blasphemous kind imaginable. Heavy Metal doesn't really "do" Easter that well. Oh, we're sure there's probably some Christian Metal Bands out there [...]
Sunday Spotify Slaylist: Refused Are Fucking Dead….right?
Well, we're sure some of you will have noticed that a lot of "media outlets" are getting very excited over the fact that the official Refused website has been updated to a big ol' placeholder page stating nothing more than "Coming Soon". That, and a twitter posting from Zane Lowe (even though he seems to [...]
Sunday Spotify Slaylist: Power Metal
Normally we leave it up to our Deputy Editor to cobble together our Slaylists when he's one shade or another of hungover. Not so this week - step forward Tom Dare with his Slaylist of EPIC proportions... In a world where metal rules ("and if you don't like it die" - Paul Baloff), one nation consistently [...]
