I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that last night I was anxiously watching Twitter for teasers and refreshing Hopscotch's homepage until midnight, when Hopscotch 20122s lineup was released. I read out loud the 175 bands to my roommates with the occasional (and frequent) yelps of joy. Headliners this year include The Roots, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Built to Spill (one of my personal favorite bands), Yo La Tengo, Liars, Sunn O))), and Zola Jesus. Some others that I'm excited about are Thee Oh Sees, Wye Oak, Deerhoof, The Mountain Goats, Versus, Exitmusix, Ducktails, Samantha [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , RPM Normski Photography The Mutek Festival has unveiled the full program for its 2012 edition and it'll feature amongst other things a set from acid house pioneer A Guy Called Gerald, an improv performance from Juno Award-winning electronic artist Tim Hecker and Sunn O))))'s Stephen O'Malley, along with a wide range of avant audio-visual, performance and DJed events. The fest, which will be taking place in [...]
Danny Brown (left) Sunn O))) (right) Although the full lineup has yet to be revealed, the fine folks at Hopscotch Music Festival have announced two artists that will play in September. Danny Brown, coming off of the successful release of his 2011 album XXX was announced to play the festival March 29. Two days earlier Sunn O))) were put on the bill. This will mark the first show for the doom metal rockers in North America since 2010. They will play Saturday, Sept. 8, in the Memorial Auditorium, showing how [...]
The year's edition of the SXSW Film Festival is not quite as metal friendly as last year's version. Of course, it's hard to top a Pentagram documentary, a Fishbone documentary, Fubar II: Balls To The Wall, and Hesher. That doesn't mean, however, that this year's fest won't not have a few somethings that will appeal [...]
3mins 30something in and I'm a shiver of collapsing piping ... that percussive bass from the Sunn O))) boys reminding me of a old collaboration the Wound did with Tony Wakeford but with more soured industry and asbo bottle throwing... This one certainly bleeds a satisfied evol...the best track I've heard from Stapleton and Co in a long while...

Sunn O)))'s newest release, ØØ VOID , brings back into print the band's second disc, which was recorded in Hollywood in 2000 with producer (and Goatsnake / Kyuss bassist) Scott Reeder and originally issued on Hydra Head. Like most Southern Lord releases, ØØ VOID is available as a limited edition vinyl pressing (1K on cream colored vinyl / 5K total pressing). There is also a limited 2CD edition of ØØ VOID (1,000 copies) being sold through Southern Lord's web store that includes a bonus disc that features the [...]

Is that enough "insert symbol"-type symbols for ya? I know I'm all set. Sunn O)))'s second album, ØØ Void , originally released in 2000, has been reissued...! Quick, Robin-- to the review! Track one, "Richard" is intestinal rumbling as a mantra, from the bowels of the Earth, using (cause it don't need no drums; in terms of drums, Sunn O))) ain't care!) what may or may not be a synthesizer as what effectively works as a "count," the way a drummer would use a ride symbol or [...]

For those who don't know, the guy who co-founded SOUTHERN LORD was an sxe moshbro back in the '80s and early '90s, and had a terrible/lulzy hardcore band called BROTHERHOOD. Then after youth crew was cool, he was in ENGINE KID, a really shitty alternative rock band. After that he was in a drone band [...]
Defeating: Earth's Gravity is a classic bit of Sunn O))) from their 2005 album The Grimm Robe Demos . It's a stream of long, slow, crushing chords and runs for 15 minutes. Lovely. Just what you want. Of course, it turns out that's not enough of an ordeal for some. Oh no, 15 minutes is over far too quickly for them. Defeating: Earth's Gravity isn't dooomy enough. And the only solution that presents itself is to load up the audio editor and slow it down so that it lasts [...]

Seattle drone lords Sunn 0)))'s sophomore album ØØ Void has been almost impossible to find since it was first issued in June 2000 (the title probably doesn't help its cause). On November 22nd, all that changes when the CD version of the album is reissued through guitarist Greg Anderson's metal imprint Southern Lord (via Exclaim! ). Southern Lord also plans to reissue the effort on vinyl sometime in the near future. Below, check out the album opener "Richard" and the album tracklist below. [...]
I pride myself on being open minded, so it is very important to me that I consider both sides of an issue before I decide what I think about something! For example, I have always thought that "melodic metal" was a very confusing idea. To me, melody and metal are like oil and water: no [...]

Steve Moore from Zombi and Daniel O'Sullivan from Sunn O))) have started a new band and called it Miracle. From the sound of the track below they are peddling a darkened side of electronic pop . They have an EP, 'Visitors', due for release on the 4th July. Anyway here's the video:

Runhild Gammelsaetter is a fucking badass, no two ways about it. Her presence in pre-Sunn O))) unit Thorr's Hammer is impossible to overlook, in no small part due to the fact that she can lay down a growl few singers of any gender have been able to best since. She was only 17 when she performed on that record too, paving the way for young visionaries like Earl Sweatshirt and Tyler, the Creator.
From the brain of Egyptian-born, New York-based conceptual artist Nader Sadek comes In the Flesh, a new album that centers on the notion of humanity's relationship with petroleum and how this exhumation of ancient life forms serves as a self-destructive fuel to society's greed (a subject that's near and dear to my heart). You might already know [...]
