The Diamond Center- Follow, I Won't - off their recently-released album My Only Companion . While this band is all over the place with styles, I like them most when they're doing this dark Neko Case-esque thing. Real good. Le Loup- Beach Town - this is going to get a proper write up in the near future, but, for now, we'll just give a little preview of this new record , just released on Hardly Art . Werecoon of One- Lovelovelove - a brand new track from Werecoon's new home in New Zealand. [...]

In the early to mid years of this decade, the term emo became synonymous with sappy teens favoring the more mainstream pop and rock artists known for wearing unhappy emotions on their sleeve. But well in advance of that time, the genre was filled with artists like Sunny Day Real Estate, whose melodic indie rock maintained the genre's fervor but without the lyrical sappiness. True, the band was instrumental in crafting the genre and progressing it forward, and its members went on to do some pretty groundbreaking things - Nate [...]
Sunny Day Real Estate, banda de Seattle, voltaram a reunir-se de novo este ano, após dois demenbramentos. Podemos dizer que os Sunny Day Real Estate são de algum modo o ritmo dos Foo Fighters: Nate... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

This week is another strong one for new music. I’m going to go broke with just what I want to pick up. As I was going through the list of what looked interesting (to me), I wondered if I should put more releases up? For example: are people interested in the new Megadeth? Or the new Uncle Kracker? I mean, I put stuff up that I’m not going to buy, so should I actively limit the list to what I think is good/will be popular? This isn’t something that kept me up late, but I [...]

Editor's Note: Usually, I use Sundays to rant and rave about just about anything and I'm just as likely to discuss broad topics about music as I am my cat or wrangling at Home Depot. I've been fairly off the radar for the last couple of weeks while Brian, Rob, James, and Justin have been covering the album review duties superbly. Rob's debut review of The Ettes earlier this week was solid and we're glad to have him on board. Justin's finally getting over his Canadian hangover and Brian has officially shaken the flu. Wrap all of this together with [...]

We all know by now Portland, OR has grown into a Mecca for up-and-coming indie bands, so it makes sense for the city to host a major (and surprisingly affordable) music fest every year. Enter the ninth annual Musicfest NW sponsored by Willamette Week . The festival began in 2001 under the moniker of NXNW (becoming the Pacific NW's version of SXSW), then changed its name and direction in 2006 to focus on both burgeoning local acts and semi-mainstream acts. As reported earlier in the summer , the five-day event commences on September 16th at various [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive Fans of Sunny Day Real Estate have two reasons to celebrate this month. First, the Seattle emo pioneers' original lineup is back together and heading out on tour. Second, the group's first two albums, 'Diary' and 'LP2' have been reissued with bonus tracks and all new liner notes written by the band. Though the reissues aren't out until Tuesday, Sept. 15, Spinner got a sneak peak at the liner notes for 'Diary,' in which the band discusses their formation, [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive It was 1992 when Sunny Day Real Estate first started getting reverential reviews in underground music circles, a point in time when the Internet was only just beginning to take shape, when "emo" music was only listened to by outcasts and music geeks, and when a sound called 'grunge' had just started hitting alt-radio waves. While other bands from that era became considerably more famous than SDRE, the Seattle quartet have remained deeply-adored by both fans and fellow musicians, who [...]

This month seems to be the best month of reissues ever: 1) The Beatles digitally remastered mono and stereo CD box sets ! I hope this gets a vinyl release in the future! She's Leaving Home [super-wicked-cool song] 2) Sunny Day Real Estate’s Diary and LP2 —remastered with rare bonus tracks and newly written liner notes are finally coming out [...]

Sunny Day Real Estate have just re-released thier debut album "Diary". To me they are one of the godfathers of emo before it became Jimmy Eat World / post 002, then further deteriorated into My Chemical Romance and Angels and (H)Airw(e)aves. I had forgotten how good Diary is, it has aged well. Sunny day Real Estate's original lineup have reuinted and they are heading off on tour. they are here in Van-schmitten September 17th. Check their website for more dates. Sunny Day real Estate - [...]
Sub Pop is reissuing two seminal albums, Sunny Day Real Estate's Diary and LP2 . I recall sitting in a shared house in Olympia, Wash., when my roommate brought home Diary on vinyl. The cover depicted a toy family in their kitchen; the scene was sterile, institutional. Smoke billowed from a toaster and everything appeared on the verge of disintegration, including the family's plastic smiles. As for the music, I knew what to expect before we put the record on. I'd known Jeremy Enigk and William Goldsmith since high school; Jeremy [...]
by chuck bell Many great bands have died without finding any kind of mainstream success. There are countless reasons why these bands do not blow up: their sound is too abstract for radio play, they split for personal reasons before they can be discovered, they do not have the means to tour enough to get their name out, etc. However, it is extremely rare for a band to actively reject their one shot at widespread popularity. Such was the case for Mineral , the Austin, TX band [...]

Online retailer Insound , has announced a collaboration with designer Mike Perry , called "Insound 10 Classic." A collection of posters, t-shirts, and tote bags, it's the sequel to Insound 20, which debuted last summer. Insound 20 was a collaboration with designer Jason Munn , who designed merchandise for the creme de la creme of indie rock, including Grizzly Bear , the Hold Steady , and the National , among others. This time, however, Insound and Perry have chosen to focus on "iconic bands from indie rock's great history," including 10 bands that [...]
