Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive It was 1992 when Sunny Day Real Estate first started getting reverential reviews in underground music circles, a point in time when the Internet was only just beginning to take shape, when "emo" music was only listened to by outcasts and music geeks, and when a sound called 'grunge' had just started hitting alt-radio waves. While other bands from that era became considerably more famous than SDRE, the Seattle quartet have remained deeply-adored by both fans and fellow musicians, who [...]

This month seems to be the best month of reissues ever: 1) The Beatles digitally remastered mono and stereo CD box sets ! I hope this gets a vinyl release in the future! She's Leaving Home [super-wicked-cool song] 2) Sunny Day Real Estate's Diary and LP2 —remastered with rare bonus tracks and newly written liner notes are finally coming out [...]

Sunny Day Real Estate have just re-released thier debut album "Diary". To me they are one of the godfathers of emo before it became Jimmy Eat World / post 002, then further deteriorated into My Chemical Romance and Angels and (H)Airw(e)aves. I had forgotten how good Diary is, it has aged well. Sunny day Real Estate's original lineup have reuinted and they are heading off on tour. they are here in Van-schmitten September 17th. Check their website for more dates. Sunny Day real Estate - [...]
Sub Pop is reissuing two seminal albums, Sunny Day Real Estate's Diary and LP2 . I recall sitting in a shared house in Olympia, Wash., when my roommate brought home Diary on vinyl. The cover depicted a toy family in their kitchen; the scene was sterile, institutional. Smoke billowed from a toaster and everything appeared on the verge of disintegration, including the family's plastic smiles. As for the music, I knew what to expect before we put the record on. I'd known Jeremy Enigk and William Goldsmith since high school; Jeremy [...]
by chuck bell Many great bands have died without finding any kind of mainstream success. There are countless reasons why these bands do not blow up: their sound is too abstract for radio play, they split for personal reasons before they can be discovered, they do not have the means to tour enough to get their name out, etc. However, it is extremely rare for a band to actively reject their one shot at widespread popularity. Such was the case for Mineral , the Austin, TX band [...]

Online retailer Insound , has announced a collaboration with designer Mike Perry , called "Insound 10 Classic." A collection of posters, t-shirts, and tote bags, it's the sequel to Insound 20, which debuted last summer. Insound 20 was a collaboration with designer Jason Munn , who designed merchandise for the creme de la creme of indie rock, including Grizzly Bear , the Hold Steady , and the National , among others. This time, however, Insound and Perry have chosen to focus on "iconic bands from indie rock's great history," including 10 bands that [...]

Sunny Day Real Estate are back together! (I guess Jeremy Enigk 's solo career isn't going as well as he hoped.) This is still good news, especially now that the band have announced tour dates. The Jealous Sound have been tapped to open up on the dates, including a New York show on September 27 at Terminal 5; they also play without Sunny Day on September 29 at Southpaw. All tour dates for the two bands are below. The Jealous Sound tour dates: All dates w/ Sunny Day Real Estate (except [...]
Eleven years ago, on the eve of our birthday, we saw Blair Shehan's first band Knapsack take the stage alongside two other first-wave emo acts: Archers Of Loaf and At The Drive-In at NY's venerable rock club, Tramp's. It was,...

Sunny Day Real Estate (Seattle, WA) My little emo heart leaped for joy when I heard that Sunny Day Real Estate were reuniting for a tour this fall after a 10 year hiatus. I haven't bought a concert ticket on Ticketmaster in years and the second the Henry Fonda show went on pre-sale I had my tickets. Sub Pop will also re-issue both Diary and LP2 . Both re-mastered albums will include rare bonus tracks as well as newly written liner notes and [...]

Be honest. Lately, the music scene has been a pool of pretty calm waters lately, and you've been dipping into your old collection for some feel-good nostalgia. Don't lie, I've been doing it, too. Some Sunny Day Real Estate and Get Up Kids especially, because of recent re-banding and touring announcements. And that's okay; nothing is wrong with a little pure blood recycling. If you're Brody Dalle —who is now known as Brody Dalle-Homme , just to make this [...]

What a long, strange cab ride it's been. Death Cab for Cutie, former bedroom pop heroes out of the soggy Northwest, carried the indie banner to the sold-out Hollywood Bowl on Sunday night, delivering a performance that wasn't so much an exclamation point on their 11-year-career — though it might look that way on the resumé — as it was a soundtrack for picnickers on a crisp, picture-perfect date night. There was wine and cheese, glitterati and literati, the L.A. Phil and fireworks, but scant sign of the nervy asperity that drew me to Ben Gibbard's likably boyish [...]

Remember when Emo was young and fresh before MTV made it some lame trend?? Black hair dye soon to rule the world...fuck that. Let's go back and listen to how it all started. Playlist put together by Tony ( @tony_digidreams ) MP3 :: Elliott - Waiting While Under Paralysis MP3 :: Further Seems Forever -The Bradley MP3 :: Penfold - M MP3 :: Fairweather - Who Brings A Knife To A Gunfight MP3 :: The Jazz [...]

If you haven't listened to Sunny Day Real Estate, or at least heard of the much heralded band, then you must have been hiding under a huge rock. Not only was the band one of the most influential early emo bands, but they put out a few records that were nearly perfect, before parting ways. But, the band is back, and they will be playing at La Zona Rosa on October 7th. Sure, it will be an older crowd, but this is definitely a must see show for [...]

Over the last few years the Virgin Mobile Festival has established itself as one of the premiere East Coast festivals, bringing both big name arena acts and more indie-oriented bands to the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, MD. This year the fest, which had been a multi-day affair, is scaling back and changing venues. The fest will now be a free one day concert at Merriweather Post Pavilion on August 30, featuring the likes of Weezer, The National, The Hold Steady, Girl Talk, St. Vincent and more. If you're not [...]

Artist: Sunny Day Real Estate Album: Diary Release Date: May 10, 1994 Every decade and every period in music history has albums or bands that precious few have heard of, but did wonders for the musical landscape. In the mid-1990s, Sunny Day Real Estate was one such band. Anytime in the last decade or so a band was described as being "emo", it's a result of Sunny Day Real Estate's debut album. Let's get one thing straight; Emo began in the mid-80s with folks like Minor Threat and [...]

I can barely believe it but Sunny Day Realestate has reunited for a tour accompanying the reissue of LP2 and Diary which will be rereleased on September 15th. They will be touring with their original line which hasn't played together since 1998. Since the break up of the band, Jeremy Enigk has released two solo albums and an EP which came out May 12 on his own label. In 2003 Jeremy, Will and Nate released ' The Fire Theft '. I don't know about you, but I am getting my ticket right now. [...]

In my head, I know better than to be so excited about the news that Sunny Day Real Estate is reuniting for a 20-date tour, which includes a stop at Marquee Theatre in Tempe on Oct. 9. It couldn't ever mean the same as it did 10-plus years ago, but wistful nostalgia wins out every time, doesn't it? After so many SDRE breakups, false starts of possible reunions and near reunions (remember The Fire Theft ?), I feel like I should definitely embrace this for all it's worth. In addition to [...]

I can not begin to express how excited I am for the Sunny Day Real Estate reunion tour, the first time all four original bandmembers will play together since 1995. Their debut album Diary helped shape my entire musical outlook and is still one of my all-time favorite albums. I was just getting into the band as they were disbanding, I was never able to see them even in their second incarnation without Nate Mendel (who had joined Foo Fighters ). Since their breakup the bandmembers haven't exactly kept quiet, frontman [...]
Whoa. So, as you might have noticed, I've been complaining all summer about the lack of good summer festival options. There's ATP... and then there's every festival Weezer's playing at. 'Nuff said. But that was before a ridiculously sweet e-mail just landed in my inbox: Portland alternative weekly Willamette Week has just announced the lineup for its annual Music Fest Northwest. And just about everyone good is playing this sucker. Check it out: The schedule includes the recently reunited Sunny Day Real Estate (pictured) , Beach House, Bad Brains, Dirty Three, Monotonix, Mudhoney, John Vanderslice, Team [...]
