Singer-songwriter Spencer Krug, a man known for his eccentric and drawn-out tunes in bands like Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown, has released a new track with his more experimental side project, Moonface. A new album has been announced. The title: Heartbreaking Bravery . It's a collaboration with the band Siinai, and is set to release April 17 on Jagjaguwar. Siinai is a band that hails from Finland and accompanied Wolf Parade on a tour back in 2009. The song they've put out abandons the focus on specific instruments like the previous Moonface releases did with the marimba [...]

Last year, Moonface put on one of the best shows I've seen in recent memory. Read the review over at Exclaim! , and also read my album review and my preview of his upcoming With Siinai: Heartbreaking Braver y. Speaking of that new album, the song "Teary Eyes and Bloody Lips" is below. Looks like Spencer Krug ditched the long-form style.

Moonface is the project of Spencer Krug , who is one of the vocalists and creative minds behind the great indie rock band Wolf Parade , as well as Sunset Rubdown . He teamed up recently with Siinai, a Finnish band of some sort. The details are a little arduous, but the results are pretty good. Teary Eyes and Bloody Lips is the lead single for the album and the sound is familar to anyone who has backgroud knowledge on Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown. Moonface will be releasing their album on April 17 [...]

Spencer Krug is probably best known for his role in Wolf Parade , but the dude's been doing solo outings for some time now. Personally, I loved his Sunset Rubdown work, even with his sometimes off-kilter vocal performances. His latest project, Moonface , now has a brand new album coming out April 17th on JagJaguwar Records , titled With Sinai: Heartbreaking Bravery . Those of you looking for something along the lines of Wolf Parade might be out of luck, [...]

Nick Thorburn is back — well, back at recording with Islands, after a Mister Heavenly tour this past year. today is the last day of what i know i will consider for some time to be one of the worst, most difficult and challenging months of my entire life. tomorrow won't really be any different than today; but symbolism has never been lost on me, and for that reason i know that turning the page on the calendar is an opportunity for it to at least feel different. i can't wait for september. for now, the best that i can say is, "i am a creature / and i am surviving". The Moonface tour is over. Sunset Rubdown is on an indefinite and probably permanent hiatus. Wolf Parade is on a permanent hiatus. My toe still hurts, but it's stabilized-- it's not getting worse, but it's not getting better. And I'm going on vacation starting tomorrow to LBI, Bermuda (!), and Rehoboth Beach over the next 3 weeks. So it's pretty much the perfect time to put this blog on hiatus for the rest of this summer. Check back after Labor Day and I should hopefully have some new material. Until then, follow me [...]

Tweet Spenser Krug 's new Moonface album is not for the faint of heart. Listeners expecting the intellectual pop of early Wolf Parade or Sunset Rubdown's "Dragonslayer" will be sorely disappointed. Krug has ditched his major projects once again to follow his lust for the arcane. Those willing to following him into the rabbit hole will be rewarded for their patience, but no one could be blamed for throwing their hands up at this sprawling, intricate, maddening album. Featuring five [...]
(Right Link + "Save Link As" = Download) Moonface - "Return to the Violence of the Ocean Floor" Moonface - "Fast Peter" While I'm certainly not a Spencer Krug fanatic (ie. I never tried Swan Lake , I enjoy only about half of Sunset Rubdown's discography ), his most recent solo record under the moniker Moonface is hitting the spot. While influential sites are giving mediocre reviews of Organ Music Not Vibraphone Like I'd Hoped , I find the record relaxing [...]
On August 2nd, Spencer Krug (of Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown fame) will release a solo album under his Moonface moniker curiously titled Organ Music not Vibraphone like I'd Hoped . One thing we know for sure, Spencer Krug hates down time. Since his debut release in 2002 with Frog Eyes, Krug has released 15 full length albums and 5 EP's under 6 different monikers ( Fifths of Seven , Sunset Rubdown , Frog Eyes , Moonface , Swan Lake , and Wolf Parade ). His latest album will come from his Moonface side. Organ Music Not Vibraphone Like I'd Hoped does actually have a story behind the title. Krug explained in a press release that originally he had intended to write an [...]

Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown fame released a new song yesterday via his solo project Moonface 's website. With plans to release his solo album Organ Music Not Vibraphone Like I'd Hoped on August 2nd, the new track is surprisingly not from the forthcoming LP. As Krug explained on his website, "Here, take this. It's a song that was cut from the record - an angry duck that didn't get along with the other songs on the Organ Music LP. That is not to say it's a bad song (though [...]
MP3 Coming from Spencer Krug himself, a Canadian singer-songwriter known for his work in numerous bands I enjoy, a track from his new Moonface project. The solo effort will be seeing a full-length debut on Jagjaguwar on August 8th . "The Way You Wish You Could Live In The Storm," is a new Moonface song, but we're only hearing it because it was cut from the forthcoming album. According to a block of text posted with the song, it's "an angry duck that didn't get along with the other songs on [...]
If you're a fan of Spencer Krug, you know he has a fondness for writing lengthy songs, whether for Wolf Parade , Sunset Rubdown or his most recent moniker, Moonface , (see his debut 20 min long, single track EP called "Marimbas And Shit-drums" ).
