With their second album Crosswords out in the world, SUPER WILD HORSES have planned a quick tour to show the nation what kind of girls they are and what they do to make that unique sound of theirs. Hayley McKee is one of the garage duo and as she sits and relaxes by a river down in Victoria; she took the time to chat with us about the new album, a butter factory, and a cozy little beach she likes to visit. You’ve [...]

Super Wild Horses return with a follow-up to their HoZac debut and its just as taut and darkly rambunctious as their previous effort. Crosswords steps up production ever so slightly but still hearkens to an era of 90's femme fatale girl groups while wading into a new dark edge of guitar rock that rubs shoulders with post-punk in ways their debut didn't. They've still got that insistent wall of dual vocals that can feel like an attack at some times, a coo at others and more than often explode into a celebration; though they always seem to demand [...]

Melbourne duo SUPER WILD HORSES somewhat disappeared after the release of their debut album Fifteen back in 2010. Hopefully the three year waiting period was worth it as they've finally announced the follow up record Crosswords that is to be released this April! As we wait in anticipation for what this sophomore will bring, Super Wild Horses have so kindly given us a peep with their dashing film clip to their new single, 'Alligator'. A track made up of drowning guitars leading fast paced, upbeat [...]

20102s album Fifteen from Melbourne garage rock two-piece Super Wild Horses was easily a fave of mine. The girls are finally back with brand new single 'Alligator' as well as an ace clip all about pie face! But pie face as in the classic cream pie slapstick kind, not the 24/7 joints you visit at 4 [...]
New track from Australia's Super Wild Horses - it's the lead track from their forthcoming record, Crosswords, which drops on April 5 via Dot Dash.

Here's the blistering, melancholic new single from Melbourne's Super Wild Horses , complete with stark/stunning visuals that only intensify the song's infectious, subtly ominous emotional pull. Both song + video have us very psyched for the follow-up to the duo's beloved 2010 debut full-length Fifteen ; " Alligator " is the opening track from the forthcoming Crosswords , out April 5 on Dot Dash / Remote Control Records .

If you've heard the tunes that UV RACE exhibit, you'd know that they create some raw garage punk, or as they like to note themselves - "idiot savant punk rock". Starting out in 2007, the Melbournian six piece started playing gigs and releasing their music via cassette. After moving on up to a vinyl format, they have since released a bunch of 73 singles, a soundtrack to their debut film Autonomy and Deliberation (which they're currently working on the sequel to), a split live casette with Eddy Current Suppression Ring - Live [...]

We here at the Purple Sneakers office are suckers for supergroups, especially when the supergroup is made up of some of the best Australian acts of the past decade. Say hello to BOOMGATES. They're a talent stacked outfit based in Melbourne, creating catchy as all hell scrappy pop. And the best part - they are comprised of members of Eddy Current Suppression Ring , The Twerps , Trial Kennedy , Dick Diver and Teen Archer . That's a pretty big deal guys. [...]

Reading Rainbow - "Dead End" from stereogum on Vimeo. There isn't a band working right now that makes me want to pump my fist in pop-filled glee more than Reading Rainbow. Prism Eyes slapped me around and left me in a gutter with wispy strands of cotton candy hanging on to my lips, and "Dead End" [...]
Give a listen to the new RR track “Dead End”. It’s a sweet little pop rock number that will hopefully get you going on this extremely sunny Sunday. Unfortunately, according to Reading Rainbow’s website us regular folk won’t be able to grab a copy. That is a bit of a shame, but at least we can listen! Reading Rainbow - Dead End by RRPhilly
So, Reading Rainbow (somewhat) recently added guitarist Al Creedon to the band, officially making them a trio. Though recorded before Creedon was in the band, this here new track features some Creedon-crafted feedback at the beginning and end of the song. The song is on Reading Rainbow 's secret split 73 with Super Wild Horses for the HoZac Hook up Klub . I suggest you put this on repeat. Listen. Downloadable: Dead End (mp3) Reportedly, the band will be selling the HoZac Hook up Klub [...]

Philly's Reading Rainbow is one of the few band that sort of won me over by a few happenstance live sets. Before knowing anything about their recordings, I caught them about three times as part of showcases or opening for other bands. Every time they played a set, I took a little mental note about how seriously delightful their energy was on stage; not silly or frivolous, just like really positive, direct, and always super sharp. In the last year since they've been on my radar, Reading Rainbow has gone through a number of live changes. Drummer Sarah [...]

Not sure if you guys have noticed, but it's been fucking hot lately. Pretty much everywhere. If it's not hot where you are, I'm jealous, and please invite me over. If it is hot where you are, but you have ... Continue reading

It feels like it has been awhile since we last sprung a mix on you, so today felt like a good time to unleash the June mix. It's packed with yummy pop treats, grimy lo-fi indie rock and sexy (albeit a little on the naughty side) r&b. If you have sensitive ears and would like to avoid some of the more... ahem... scandalous lyrics, I might suggest avoiding the track from The-Dream (but it is a really really good song). Anyways, there is so much here that I'm pretty sure you'll find something you like. Turntable [...]
