Friday, August 6, 2010 Today's Quick Mention: Get out this weekend! You can get a little music with Ume at Emo's tonight and then some comedy with Brian Posehn and Matt Bearden at Red 7 tomorrow. Both shows are free if you can make it past the door guy without paying. Sorry this is going up at such a wacky hour, I had to work an event last night and I just didn't have enough time assemble it. But it's here now! Don't judge me. [...]

Super Wild Horses Fifteen Hozac Records True to their name, Super Wild Horses are a free and instinctive, rock and pop duo from Melbourne, Australia, who by luck, grace, or more likely, an incorruptible feeling for melody, happen to find themselves in possession of one of the year's best records to date. Throughout their first full length, Fifteen, Amy Franz and Hayley McKee harmonize like sisters and trade instruments like best friends forever. They both sing play guitar, keyboards, and drums, switching positions from behind the kit [...]

Photography: Kelli Morris Super Wild Horses - Golden Town This video is a great summer escape especially good tonic for those here in the Pacific NW USA with nothing but rain and more rain and gloomy skies on this Memorial Day weekend. This female Aussie (*Melbournite) garage rock band is set to release their first single from Super Wild Horses' debut album Fifteen which'll be out July 23rd through Aussie label Aarght! If you like Vivian Girls and Best Coast, this is [...]

Being an all-girl, Australian, garage rock trio, Super Wild Horses are all but guaranteed to garner comparisons to American outfits like Vivian Girls or the Dum Dum Girls. Yet, while their American counterparts channel their love of Phil Spector's wall of sound style through a quaintly modern lo-fi style, these Aussies take a much noisier approach. For them, harmonies and pop-leanings are important, but no more important than good old fashioned, guitar noise. With a constant, crackling static permeating throughout "Golden Town," these gals show themselves more in tune with Kim Deal, The Breeders and the girl [...]

Check out this ace video for Super Wild Horses' new single, Golden Town! Totally warm and luxurious. It was shot in rural Victoria, which could easily be where good indie rockers go when they die. You can read more about Super Wild Horses (and download the track!) in our post of earlier this week . Awesome.

Earth Tones Mix Hope y'all enjoy this mix which I put together in celebration of my two loves: loose, organic rock n' roll and homewares. Dig the classixxx from Wire and Blur; new jams from future heroes Surf City and Super Wild Horses; and forgotten brilliance from Angry Samoans and western Sydney originators The Numbers. 1. Surf City - Autumn 2. Super Wild Horses - Golden Town 3. Wire - Outdoor Miner 4. The Numbers - The Modern Song 5. Angry Samoans - Electrocution 6. Les Cox (Sportifs) - Reduction Strategies 7. [...]

Super Wild Horses - Golden Town Yeah Super Wild Horses! I had plans to stretch a metaphor about how this track is "toasty" (simple yet delicious; crunchy; cozy etc.) but I changed my mind. This is the first cut from the Melbourne duo's debut album Fifteen (totally appropriate title considering their youthful exuberance) and, let's be clear, it's fucking cool. Last year's 7" was all about lightning-quick charges through uncomplicated lo-fi gems, and some of that spirit's intact. But it's been brilliantly augmented by some cleverly applied wall of sound production (courtesy [...]
Things I know/don't know about this band: 1. This duo is from Australia, a land of vegemite and Eddy Current Suppression Ring. 2. This duo could very well consist of one man and one woman, or two woman, or two pre-pubescent boys or some genderless grey area that exists in between. 3. I thought I'd sworn off garage [...]

Some institutions we've come to respect around here based on reputation alone and Australia's Aarght! is most certainly a well-spring of talent and a sure bet for fun garage. Their latest single from the two-piece Super Wild Horses hits right on target. Super Wild Horses – Six Song EP Messy, scrappy and full of 6 fun tracks, this EP from Super Wild Horses introduces yet another great bit of Australia's garage underground to us uninformed residents abroad. Under a bed of tape hiss Amy [...]
These are some of our favourite songs of 2009. We've missed some undoubtedly, but what the heck - no list can be perfect. Our one arbitrary rule was no more than two tracks by any artist. So if you like Country, Rock, Blues, Americana, Folk, Indie, Alternative, Electro or anything in between there should be something there for you to get your teeth and ears into, or at least to investigate further
We came across a little gem the other day.The band is Super Wild Horses and although there are only two of them: Amy and Hayley, they play some pretty raucous rock'n'roll in short sharp bursts. There are a few bands around with just two members, White Stripes, The Kills, The Pack A.D., Black Keys are a few of the better ones that spring to mind. However, it is one of the hardest things to keep

Melbourne things Super Wild Horses have been impressing anyone and everyone's who's listening with their excellent brand of garage-dwelling, two-piece indie rock. And now they've got their EP out and more and more love should be coming their way. Super Wild Horses - What Started The Noise [ YS ] MYSPACE
