photo: Anthony Georgis Scott Garred , better known as Super XX Man has been releasing high quality albums with heartfelt indie rock for more than 12 years now His latest brainchild is dubbed Volume XII: There'll Be Diamonds , a collection of songs about the lives of the people Garred works with at the Oregon State Hospital, a psychiatric institution in his home state. He sings about substance abuse, sedatives, rubber duckies and big balloons. It's obvious that he cares a lot about these people [...]

After 13 years writing, recording, and producing, Scott Garred aka Super XX Man (pronounced "super double ex man"), has cultivated a mildly edgy modern rock sound in the new release Volume XII: There'll Be Diamonds. Although there's plenty of the familiar Super XX Man-style of music on his latest album, what will no doubt surprise many long time fans are the moody, foreboding tracks that lie at the heart of the album. Songs like "Medication", "Little Leaf" and "Crazy People" help to comprise, as Garred says, "my most sonically ambitious album to date." Songs [...]
The Happy Hollows The second hour of new music on this week's New Music Hour on Portland's 94.7FM includes Portland musicians Super XX Man and Horse Feathers, a new cut from Mercury Rev and The Happy Hollows. I'm on air with resident DJ Squid every Tuesday and Thursday at 8PM. This is the show from Thursday [...]

Ο κύριος super double ex man , a.k.a. Scott Garred , κατάγεται από το Portland του Oregon . Στα μέσα της προηγούμενης [...]
Howdy y'all, it's been a while. Random updates over here: WideEyedEggPlant is relocating to New York! I am waiting for the new Macbooks. I think the world of indie music is getting a little flooded with music. These days I am slowly finding less good things and more "plain" stuff. We are looking for writers for BBQ, if you think you have what it takes, email us! I have a mix of songs I've been wanting to share so if you need a fix, it's comin' to ya! It's a week-ending mix. The Very Most - [...]

Not many bands can say they have put out 12 albums, much less a twee indie rock band but that's exactly what Super XX Man has done since their inception in the 90's. After 13 years writing, recording, and producing, Scott Garred aka Super XX Man , has cultivated a mildly edgy modern rock sound in the new release Volume XII: There'll Be Diamonds . Previous releases have garnered acclaim from everywhere, even the likes of Bob Boilen , host of All Songs Considered ("If [...]

I've been racking up a lot of new music and I've been doing an otherwise terrible job at sharing it with you all. So here's some great tunes to kick start your Wednesday morning. I checked out The Republic Tigers last night at the Towne Lounge . You never know how you feel once you get out of work and if staying up late is worth it. I didn't stay for the whole set, but what I did see I was impressed with. I do sorta dig The Republic Tigers breed of [...]

This from HUSH, my label. Has a new P Bear jamm: "Wii Oui". We are delighted to share this party favor with you: DECA: A HUSH 10th Anniversary Compilation . It's a rare snapshot of an invigorating cross section of artists mostly calling Portland home. The majority of its 28 tracks (tracklist below) are previously unreleased, and it features a 36 page pdf booklet. One note: Should you opt for the convenient, high quality zip download you'll find you're given an opportunity to pay an amount of [...]

Download the entire record from Paperheart Music It's amazing how an artist can struggle for years in their own country, trying desperately to sell records and fill tiny clubs, and at the same time can be an icon over seas. In a perfect Dominique Wilkins style follow up to Shane's Thrush Hermit tribute record, I wanted to revisit All Their Broken Hearts - a Paperheart tribute to Julie Doiron . Like the title says, the Belgium based record label collected a huge group of artists to record some of Julie's best songs (circa [...]

One of our favorite lil' record labels in town, Tender Loving Empire, announced earlier this week that it has added one of our favorite lil' Portland folk-pop acts, Super XX Man, to its roster. TLE sent out a press release regarding Super XX Man's Volume XII: There'll Be Diamonds earlier this week, and it sounds quite worthy of our stokedness: A marked shift from the gentle folk-pop sound that fans throughout the Northwest have become intimately familiar with, Volume XII is, according to singer/songwriter Scott Garred, Super XX Man's "most sonically ambitious album to [...]

Picture taken by an old friend. Check out his stuff here . I love when certain songs take you back to a specific point in your life. Whether it was the best moment of your life or one you'd rather forget, there's no doubt that a song is powerful enough to place you in that one moment of time. Here are some of my music-related memories in the last few years: Eisley - Telescope Eyes from Room Noises [...]
I've posted about Super XX Man before. In fact, I think it was just a few a months ago. But he released a new record last month on Hush Records called A Better Place and you can tell from its sound that things are a bit different in the super xx life. The big change is that Mr. Man is now a daddy. Believe me, I know how that rearranges the world view, and you can really hear it in these songs. Where as his last record X had a world view [...]

You'd be pretty stupid to miss the Hush Records showcase Nov. 1 at the Living Room In NYC. Sure you'd miss Casey Dienel, Laura Gibson and Shelley Short but you'd also miss out on Jeff London . The two songs below are taken from Jeff's new record Harm's Way that he will be releasing himself sometime this year (or pick it up at the showcase). While the production is circumspect (but we like that right?) the songs are concise bits of poetry accompanied by piano, cello and guitar. [...]
