"I hate goodbyes. They're right down there with endings on my list of things I'd pay good money to avoid (and I did each of the three times I delayed the end of my stint in Southeast Asia last year until what was meant to be a one-month trip turned into a six-month one). I don't have to play devil's advocate to see that sometimes "The End" can be a welcome sight -- after the denouement of a terrible movie, the closing notes of an awful song, or the conclusion of a bad romance that should have [...]

Can it really be? Supertramp?? Yes. It is ... Ponty Mython has pulled a blinder today. Known to his parents as Alexander Pletnev, he has re-edited Supertramps' 'The Logical Song' to a reminding and pleasure-ridden harmony. For an edit that should be far longer than this immense four minute version, let the sweet smelling muskiness of the Supertramp continue ... SUPERTRAMP - The Logical Song (Ponty Mython Edit)

California Condors are a blast of west coast flavor. The four-piece tout infectious melodies and memorable lyrical quips containing a bevy of nostalgia, making it hard to stop listening after one song. Their album Calm Carnivore hovers between contemporary indie rock and classic rock influences. The soaring, reverb-filled guitar solos often conjure the feeling of [...]

For a good decade or so, I have had an implacable foe, an entity which I have formally and officially declared to be my arch-nemesis. Making this struggle more complex is that my arch-nemesis is the brother of a good friend. In truth, I don't know David very well. I've been buddies with his brothers for close to twenty years, but I've been around David no more than a handful of times. Our rivalry has no origin other than a decision I made to declare him my arch-nemesis. (it actually [...]

Were Supertramp prog ? Judging by the above photo I think at some point they were. What I do know however is that during the late 70s/early 80s I always used to refer to them, and bands like Foreigner, Air Supply, REO Speedwagon, Survivor, Journey etc., as Members Only rock . Not quite metal yet not quite adult contemporary either, I seem to recall that they all paradoxically bridged the gap between two much maligned groups of my pre-adolescent years; stoners and my parents. Both of whome loved singing along to them [...]

I've been hoping for a Supertramp revival since the use of Goodbye Stranger in the movie Magnolia . Oh, my devotion to them isn't slavish. In truth, it's rather limited. Their more progressive stuff doesn't move me and it's not simply because it's progressive. (I fully admit to having dabbled in progressive rock, but that flirtation was mostly limited to Marillion in the early '80s. I've had the chance to drink with their former lead singer Fish on a handful of occasions and, I assure you, to walk into a pub in [...]

Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin' into the future...turn the way back machine to The Year of Our Lord 1978...see the spindly teenagers coming and going in and around the then three year old Voorhees High School. I'm glad there aren't too many photos of me from that day and age. Suffice to say it wasn't very pretty. Come to think of it, the same could be said of the John Jay circa 2011. What's 33 years really? I ask you. I could have sworn this same sign was there in 1978, but maybe the parents of the class of [...]

Ohhh, this is always a fun game. Many people think that the best music comes from the year that they were born. Well, step aside every other year...1979 just took first place. I mean, how can you argue with the tail end of motown, the birth of punk, ska and hip hop with a bundle of classics wrapped into one year. I know I am forgetting some amazing songs (Pink Floyd, The Cars, The Ramones...Journey)...these are just some of my favourites. Enjoy! Free mp3: Clash - Train in Vain [...]

It's spring, and time for the Sounds of Spring mixtape for this week's Sunday 25 Mix. Although Wild Orchid Children consists of seven core members, their style is nothing like Arcade Fire or Broken Social Scene, or any other of the numerous band-collectives. Having a boyfriend is hard work. They eat your food, sleep in your bed, spend your money on cars and video games, occasionally find other people more attractive than you, and distract you from perfectly good movies with coitus. That's why Fuck Yeah, Ryan Gosling is such a dear part of our lives. A fantasy boyfriend who says all the right things, but you don't have to put up with his mantics. When you see those words, "Hey Girl," it's like a lavender bath for your brain. Don't you just hear him [...]
