Just wanted to say that because, trust me, it doesn't happen very often. The weather here already sucks because it's either raining or it's really cold. I mean, what's cold without snow? Anyway, the point is that it IS snowing :) [mp3] Surefire Broadcast - Let it Snow Posted in 1 Tagged: london, snow, surefire broadcast
Add your own adjective to finish off the title (plus it ties in nicely with a little gem later). Snow, ice, rain and damn cold weather can't keep this fine weekend of music away. Lots of talent from the region and elsewhere are out and about. Here is what's happening. photo from Surefire Broadcast's MySpace In the most recent issue of Magnet there is an article on the magazine's hometown of Philadelphia which pays tribute to the past and present Philly music scene. As I read through the article I kept expecting to turn the page and see something about the vibrant DIY indie scene that currently inhabits the city which is touched on briefly below. There was no mention of Surefire Broadcast , I like to think that it is probably only because they don't actually reside in Philadelphia, because [...]
Our dear friends over at Indiepages have posted their top 40 songs of the year (split up between EPs and LPs of course) for free download! So much free music! read more

This year seemed to be the year in which the 73 single returned to prominence. It's not like it ever really went away, but this year bands and labels were putting them out left a right. Vinyl in general, is making a resurgence with the prevalence of file downloading a cd is just a lousy digital copy that takes up too much space, whereas a slab of vinyl is more like a work of art with it being big enough to actually appreciate the cover art. It also comes in many shades, with colored vinyl showing up almost as much [...]

>> This is our 1,000th post. Yeah. It would have been nice to have had some big retrospective with shiny pictures and stuff that goes ping to mark the occasion, but then again, that's not our style. >> So we were minding our own business Saturday at a social event when we happened upon two former members of Boston chimp-gaze superstars Swirlies goofing around in a basement practice space. After convincing said players that in fact the band had had fans, and that we were one of them, we turned to the charming young fellow [...]

I don't know much about Veronica Lake , they were from Ann Arbor, Michigan, which is home to the University of Michigan. They also seem to get tagged as an American version of the Field Mice . The band never put out a full album, but released a scatter shot of songs on SpinArt, Cher Doll, Simple Machines, Bus Stop and Audrey's Diary. If you put all of their output together, it would add up to ten songs, and make a fine album. As it happens, if you hurry and [...]

The efforts of Clear Channel's programmers have probably helped you already get sick of holiday music, but there are quite a few seasonally appropriate songs worthy of your time out there. To help cut through the clutter we've asked Jon Solomon , whose 20th annual 24-Hour Holiday Radio Show on WPRB kicks off at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve, to offer up some seasonal cheer in MP3 form. And you may be interested to know that he uses the phrase "early-'90s pop 45s" to describe the song he's brought our way today: [...]

(L to R:) Rodney, Dan, and Lisa of New Jersey's Surefire Broadcast. I'm pretty sure I've mentioned Surefire Broadcast here before, but I think it was probably pretty brief. Well I've been listening to them a lot recently so I thought it might be a good idea to mention them again, and a little less briefly this time. Surefire Broadcast play mostly noisy indiepop, in the vein of, well, all of my favorite bands. Had they been a little bit older back around the early nineties then it wouldn't [...]
