I went skiing this weekend, a rare occurrence for me despite living in Colorado. My body doth protest heartily today, after using muscles near-forgotten. I am a novice skier but by the end of the day Saturday I was hitting a stride where I wasn't fighting against the giant contraptions buckled to my feet and I could just glide down the mountain (almost) naturally. It felt at times like flying, silently. It was a gorgeous day and occasionally the sun would break through the clouds and shimmer across Lake Dillon in the distance. Even though I was listening [...]

(This will never happen, but...) Let's say I walk into this club tonight (you know, more indie-hipster than R'n'B) and the manager is in a panic because he/she can't find anybody of sufficient quality to man the decks. Well, duh, I take over and drop this on them. No brainer. Seven tasty movers of foot and fringe. Play it LOUD, yo. (OK, I'll go back to reality now...) 01 - Love Is All - " Wishing Well ". [...]

Here is The Wheel's Still In Spin 's list of favorite releases for the month of November: Anathallo – Canopy Glow | Amazon CD MP3 | Insound CD MP3 Download "The River" (mp3) This lush album could have been a messy mistake, but it is a mellifluous piece of magic. There are layers of music [...]
Please forgive us (oh, such self-delusional comfort in the plural) if we don't fiddle with thematic groupings and such in this post. Just call it a loose concatenation of songs we're enjoying and hoping you will, too. Setting Sun - They're Calling mp3 - from the Hudson Valley/Catskills cats' EP, Children of the Remix - Thanks to Fanatic.Built By Snow - Everything in 3D mp3 - from the Austin
The Good : Jay-Z (feat. Santogold) - "Brooklyn (Go Hard)" ; The first track to drip out from the soundtrack of the upcoming Biggie biopic. Makes sense that it's the Jay track on the album and let's face it throwing Santogold on your record is basically screaming out to all those white Kanye fans (like me) to come listen to this H.O.V. track. And we will be running to this in droves because it is a damn fine Jay-Z song with solid lyrics that tout the borough, a shout-a-long chorus, and some [...]

Download: Surf City - "Headin' Inside" Surf City, a trio from New Zealand, begin their first single, "Headin' Inside", with the kind of treble-y guitar riff one would expect a group with the word "surf" to have in their music. But instead of going on a Dale-esque trip to "Miserlou", the band settles into a hyper-catchy, melodious style of punk that bands like No Age and Titus Andronicus. The band's nods to The Clash suggest that their more the peers of the latter rather than the former, and, as such, "Headin' Inside" makes for better-than-average, [...]
Today I have some Surf City for you. This here is some lofi-ish New Zealand indie rock. Dig it. As expected, releases are slim this week with Thanksgiving on the horizon. Nothing in particular to recommend, but if you're looking for some stuff from some major artists like Coldplay , Kanye West , and The Killers - well your needs are covered as each have something new out this week as well. That being said, this gives me a chance to talk about something other than music this week... I normally don't delve into DVD releases with the Graboid, but there are a couple of releases worth looking into that I would like [...]

Bored...here is some neat stuff that's been peaking my interest: >Tobacco - Truck Sweat Fun Electronic project from the frontman of Black Moth Super Rainbow . It's got a great groove and I love an instrumental with a mind boggling track title. It becomes the only lyric you have to associate diction with the music. So I guess this is what Truck Sweat sounds like. Dope. >Dillinger Four - Ode To the North American [...]

Here are The Wheel's Still In Spin 's suggested new releases. Los Campesinos! – We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed | CD/DVD or MP3 Download "Miserabilia" (mp3) Last July, Los Campesinos! released their debut EP in the States. In April of this year, we got their first full length album. Now, before the year is out, they've released their second LP. The band [...]
A small but pretty sturdy release week. Can you call a week "sturdy?" Whatever. Black Friday is this week, so artists who don't mind deep-discounting are all jumping on board. The new Becoming the Archetype album is pretty legit, as is Kanye's , even though I don't remember hearing him rap at all. Austrian Death Machine has a Christmas single that's sure to be great for any holiday cynic with a penchant for comedic metalcore. And the Demon Hunter DVD is pretty cool if you like them; a live DVD, [...]

Simply put, if you're a fan of the new lo-fi sounds on Siltbreeze, or the new wave of underground punk/pop on In the Red Records, you need Surf City's EP. And when the New Zealand band add in those vintage surf guitars, buckets of boundless energy, and that indescribable knack for hitting that get off your duff and dance spot, you get one quick hitting, six song record, primed for repeat after repeat. MP3: Surf City - Headin' Inside Surf City's Untitled EP, is due out tomorrow, November 25th on Morr Music. [...]

New Zealand group Surf City first came in to existence when bored friends Davin Stoddard and Josh Kennedy met at a party in Mt Roskill in 2004. Tired of the heavy avant-garde music that was prolific at the time Stoddard and Kennedy teamed up with Josh's brother Jamie and Logan Collins to form the band. Originally called The Fibs and then Kill Surf City their fascination with fast guitar pop and the early '80s sound of Dunedin soon saw them develop their own unique and catchy sound. Known as Kill Surf City [...]

The German based label Morr Music , founded by music-a-holic Thomas Morr , was at the center of my listening universe during the early 2000's, but for the past few years it has been rather quiet. However, now their shy period has officially come to an end with the release of the eponymous debut EP from New Zealand's Surf City . Muffled power-pop chants buried in beautiful guitar noise is just what this label needed. No further explanation required, just listen to the two awesome tracks below. Thomas Morr, I salute you! The Killers' Day & Age is still two weeks from official release, although its component parts have been popping up steadily -- " Human ," " Spaceman ," " Losing Touch ," Neon Tiger ," etc. Reader Will O. let us know that the pre-release listen parade runs even longer, with the b-side to the "Human" single, "A Crippling Blow." If you live in Germany you've had access to it via iTunes, but since you probably don't live in Germany you can hear the feather-lovers' latest ode to synths and self-reliance this way.
Winter Wooskie – Belle & Sebastian Today I had one of those "I'm sick of always listening to music I don't know, just to see if I like it or not, just so I can go straight back to listening to music I don't know" moments. Thankfully I put Belle & Sebastian on just in time and was instantly calmed. Phew. Pieces Of Me – The Lovetones Lately I've had negative comments about The Lovetones coming from left, right and centre (i.e. myself). But on further inspection, I [...]
