Well it's official, Surfer Blood are finally about ready to release their new album to the masses and have some new tunes to appease the fans in the mean time. Back in 2010, Florida's fuzzy indie rock group Surfer Blood unleashed their excellent debut album, Astro Coast . This summer, the band will release their sophomore LP titled Pythons . Surfer Blood seem to have disappeared for a bit, but no worries as they have announced a new album Pythons will be out sometime this Summer. Here’s a new track from them called “Weird Shapes”. Have they re-created the magic of their ultra hit “Swim”? I don’t think so, but this is awfully catchy coastal guitar rock. Let’s see if 2013 will bring them back to being everyone’s darlings again and get them over their unwanted attention from the John Paul Pitts controversy.

Surfer Blood jumping to a major label has seemed odd to me ever since it was announced. But, it happened, and now I'm curious to see how they'll do with the machine behind them. If an argument can be made that an EP can achieve the strength of an LP, then Surfer Blood 's 2011 release Tarot Classics is certainly worthy of consideration. Tarot Classics harnessed the best of the 90s alt rock aesthetic and transformed it into a modern archetype for perfect pop rock. Addictive, melodic guitar riffs. Sharp, satirical songwriting.
