If I had a chance to put up a festival, it would probably look something like Utrecht's Le Guess Who? . Usually, seeing a festival means running from show to show and getting lost between a couple of huge (outdoor) stages. Here, you get to enjoy the artist's performance in some really cool indoor venues. Suuns - Red Song I opened up at the Bricks last night with the b-side to this lil' EP and truth be told - it didn't go over very well, to say the least, with all the out of towner skate peeps (who, predictably, I guess, don't seem to share the same enthusiasm for the hypnotic, throbbing drone of low end coupled with weirdo, minimal instrumental effects and haunting vocals as I do). I'll be honest: the video for Suuns' "Red Song" creeped me out a bit. But in a good way.
Off the new Suuns EP comes the title track "Bambi" . The song shows a more beat-loaden side of the Canadians, but still it's Ben Schemie's reverb-drenched mumbling melt that dominates their sound. "Bambi" is hypnotically engaging and makes every Suuns addict look forward to a second record. The band is going to start recording in the next weeks! Dashed off to Thekla the other night, in the distinguished company of habitual gig-buddy Coleser, ostensibly to see Canadian rock icons theBesnardLakes, but in reality much more excited by the prospect of seeing fellow Canucs, the magnificent Suuns. Suuns have shared a new video for Red Song , one of the tracks on their new 123 out this week on Secretly Canadian. The video is layered with images from found sources, which pull together for an eerie pastiche reminiscent of Ringu. a Follow @madmackerel
Suuns currently have a new 12" out featuring a couple of new tracks, "Bambi" and "Red Song". The video for "Red Song" has also been released, and it's a test of patience for the viewer.
