I've avoided mentioning/posting about the new Swan Lake record for numerous reasons, but I gave it a good solid listen today on a bike ride around the lake, and shit. It's amazing. I know they don't want bloggers posting random mp3s from it, so instead we'll just hotlink to Pitchfork's exclusive. Seeing as how they've resorted to posting reviews featuring video of chimpanzees drinking their own pee, we don't think they'll mind. Swan Lake The Freedom mp3 Beast Moans [...]

I can pretty much write anything about this album and people will pretty much eat it up. I know everyone wants to hear the album, especially because of the secrecy which has surrounded it so far. You've no doubt heard all the big name Canucks attached to this product: Dan Bejar, Spencer Krug, Casey Mercer. As you can imagine when three incredibly talented artists come together, they are going to create art. While the album does carry much of the same feeling as their other bands (these two songs definitely reflect Bejar's writing skills) the album [...]

Canada So I saw Sunset Rubdown on Wednesday night at Black Cat and wet my pants no less than three times from excitement. Okay, not really. But seriously, Spencer Krug is nothing short of a freaking genius. Both he and another bandmate were seriously ill but still played an amazing set, which included "I'll Believe In Anything," a song Spencer usually plays with his band Wolf Parade . For the new [...]

Sorry about the lack of posting the past few days...my schedule is making yet another switch, giving me long hours and little Internet time. Starting next week though, we're good as gravy. Starting then, assume there'll be a fresh post every day. In the meantime I'll try and put up what I can whenever I've got time. Let's talk Swan Lake. Does anybody have much doubt that this is going to be an incredibly amazing project? It's the indie supergroup of supergroups, putting together three of the most talented musicians of the past couple years. I think if [...]

We're still exactly two months out from the release date of Swan Lake's Jagjaguwar debut, but given the rabid interest, I'm surprised this record hasn't exploded all over the blog world. Any non-sanctioned leak postings of the Canuck supergroup have been quickly addressed and disabled by their label, leading me to believe that anything I might give you would be treated likewise. I've been listening feverishly since fate saw fit to bring us together, and want to do something for those also quaking with ancipation. Hopefully, this track by track preview will give you a good [...]
You may recall a recent and foolish commitment of mine: "I promise not to post anything more by Spencer Krug, Dan Bejar or Carey Mercer until the Swan Lake album is released in November." Well it's taken all of four days for me to capitulate on this promise, though I do ...
What a day! First Of Montreal and now Swan Lake? If anyone missed out the first time, Swan Lake is Dan Bejar of Destroyer and the New Pornographers, Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown, and Carey Mercer of Frog Eyes. Those Canadians just love to cross-pollinate, don't they? ...
This sudden shift into spring has left me feeling completely inverted. The sounds that were ably soothing me through the winter months now seem innapproiate and out of context. Rather than intensify the hunt for new material, I've found myself searching frantically in dark corners, sifting through the debris of ...

All fires Technorati Tags: music , download , mp3 , Swan Lake <a rel="tag"

I started this blog on this week last year. I was a naive kid who had way too much time on his hands and had no idea what he was doing ( read for yourself if you must). Eventually, Music For Kids Who Can't Read Good grew into something that I felt proud of creating and I owe any success that I might or might not had to all you readers (unless you're a damn troller in which case, I owe you my bandwith problems). Last May to celebrate my 100th post [...]
As both the Taste of the Danforth and The Festival of Beer begin tomorrow, I may be in no condition (a.k.a. a tad tipsy) to post anything. So I figured I would get this one in early. I received my second Summer Burn CD in the mail last week (another great mix), but I will go into more detail another time. This week I am in a pop kind of mood. Random Song 1 : The Roots vs. New Order - Crystal Seed 3.0 Justin [...]

People go to Lollapalooza only to check their e-mail . Researchers are blaming music for the increase in teen sex, even though the cause is just more meat products and porn. Linda Kay continues the trend that female bassists that played in the early 90s (see: D'Arcy, Kristen Pfaff) all turn out to be freaks . Here is what is randomly playing: ---------------------- Switches - No Hero Switches - Lay [...]
It seems like nowadays no one just makes music with the band they are in. There's the obligatory solo projects and, more recently, the side projects. Broken Social Scene has them popping up all over the place. The New Pornographers have a similar ethos. So do newcomers Wolf Parade. Alec Ounsworth from Clap Your Hands Say yeah has 450 side projects, give or take a few hundred. So it's no big surprise to see Swan Lake formed by Dan Bejar of the New Pornographers and Destroyer, Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown, and Carey Mercer of [...]
Swan Lake - "All Fires" In "The Kugelmass Episode", a short story by Woody Allen, the magician/entertainter The Great Persky transports Professor Kugelmass into the novel Madame Bovary. This is arranged at K.'s behest, because he is in a loveless second marriage, and is in the midst of a midlife crisis. He needs something, he thinks. Perhaps an affair with Flaubert's wanton cuckolder would do the trick, he thinks. So, K. and B. start doing it, and it's great - I mean, who among us can honestly say that we've never fantasized about 19th Century French Literary ACTION? But then [...]
Spencer Krug doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. After consistently touring with Wolf Parade, followed by cross country gigs with his side project, gone full-time band Sunset Rubdown, it would seem like this one-time grad student might be the busiest person in indie rock. In his new project, Swan Lake, with Dan Bejar (Destroyer and the New Pornographers) and Carey Mercer (Frog Eyes), Krug has

I don't do a lot of blog posts at 1 am Cleveland time. I'm making an exception tonight. I just rolled in from seeing the Flaming Lips (more on that tomorrow) and waiting in my inbox was a new track from Swan Lake -- the new supergroup featuring Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade, Dan Bejar of Destroyer and The New Pornographers, and Carey Mercer of Frog Eyes. Bejar, Krug, and Mercer have worked together in the past as Frog Eyes (a band that Krug has been a sometimes member) once opened for and backed Dan Bejar's Destroyer on tour. [...]

I've been waiting to hear something from the newest Canadian collaboration/supergroup for a while now. If you've been living in some hole then pay close attention. Swan Lake is the collaboration between Dan Bejar of Destroyer / New Pornographers , Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade / Sunset Rubdown and Carey Mercer of Frog Eyes . The news of all of these artists working together has been hinted at for a while now, but we get to officially listen to what this trio will sound like with the newly released track "All [...]
Hey, normally I'm not one to just immediately regurgitate record label press releases, but I've been waiting for this particular e-mail ever since this project was announced. Ladies and gentlemen, with thanks to Jagjaguwar Records , I give you the joined powers of Mssrs Krug, Mercer, and Bejar. The Canadian Voltron has come together at last, with their debut record as Swan Lake, Beast Moans . Swan Lake - "All Fires" On first listen, what I can tell you (other than [...]
