I spent many a bittersweet summer down beside the multi-faceted seasides of Swansea and though I may now look back longingly over those estival months of yore, when not glued to substandard music television they were by and large spent foraging for rare treasures down Derricks Music – just about the most ramshackle independent record store imaginable. With sand between the toes and Saint Etienne on the Discman, I'd wish for any form of even faintly compelling band to come out of South Wales' second city though it's only with the emergence of The Adelines that the sepia-stained dream [...]

Hi Friends out there in the Universe, my name is Geraint Rhys a bi-lingual singer songwriter from South Wales singing in both Welsh and English. You pronounce the G in my name like you would the G in Garage and the raint part of my name the same you would in the word pint. Good luck with that 1 :) I have been playing my own music live around Wales for a year now and am currently recording my debut album. The year ahead will be busy with three single releases scheduled all with a video to be [...]

Swansea, UK is home to a brilliant singer-songwriter, Chris Stringer. We instantly fell in love with his enthusiasm and passion towards music. From his own great songs, to covering Lionel Richie's All Night Long , Chris' heartfelt voice and honest sound is compelling and will only make you want to hear more. Chris graciously took the time to do a video interview with AMBY. So have a look as we spoke about his gorgeous music, dinosaurs, and funny pre-gigging feelings. Facebook // Twitter // [...]

In the three years since the release of ‘Dead Sea’, it’s all been a bit quiet on The Arteries’ front; a couple of tracks on a split with The Arrivals is all we’ve had to tide us over. ‘Restless’ puts an end to that wait, with a fantastic six-track EP from the Welsh wizards. The slowly swelling intro to ‘Bleed Away’ only serves to increase that anticipation, before erupting into the fast-paced and intense punk rock racket that The Arteries have become known for. It’s sweet riff after sweet riff combined with an excellent rhythm section and some [...]
The Revival are a three piece band who met whilst at University in Cheltenham. Made up of drummer Phil Beastall, bass player Ryan Kent and singer and guitarist Arfyn Rhys Ruhonah. The band see themselves as the quintessential rock and roll band merging style, attitude and melodies, with more than just a subtle nod to songwriter Arfyn Rhys Ruhonah's musical influences. To say The Revival are simply an indie rock band would be grave injustice, as their already vast musical cannon contains heartbreaking acoustic ballads ranging to balls out rock monsters. Flying the flag for 'real music' and with barrels [...]
We may not have been heard from over the festive gorge, though we were never not hearing. And granted, we've incidentally been subjected to more from Swansea's 96.4FM The Wave thus far this year than we have from SoundCloud, Bandcamp, or owt else invigorating though that's not to say that it's been anything short of an informative induction into 2013. Personally, I reckon I could now most likely recite Britney's every inessential interjection on Scream & Shout, or do the Flo Rida bit to Troublemaker. The modern toss also comes spunked in cruddy old junk in South West Wales, [...]

It's always hard to follow up a breakthrough records, but Japandroids have not only met any expectations that may have been placed on them, they've set themselves to break out to a bigger audience that no one, even the band themselves, may have ever expected them to reach. Although we're only halfway through the year, early reviews suggest that Celebration Rock is looking to be near the top of many critics' Best Of lists. Bigger, tighter, louder, and overall better than their already-stellar 2009 debut, Post-Nothing, the Canadian garage-rock duo take their songwriting to [...]

Swansea Recreation Centre : First Time European - Video/MP3 MP3
Swansea Recreation Centre - First Time European (Video) I tried to get to the bottom of why I love Swansea Recreation Centre in my post on the band last month . I also promised to bring you their new video for ‘First Time European’ when I found it. Here I proclaim, is the best song and video you’ll find in a long time; a desolate blend of grainy video footage cut and pasted from independent films ‘F For Fake’ by Orson Welles and Stranger Than Paradise by Jim Jarmusch. Watching the video leaves me even [...]

"Ah ha," Chips says, finding a page upon which he cameos. He adopts a whiny voice that is a bad impression of Zoe: "Jean who works breakfasts understands. She says that I am very mature for my age. She says that she has had a fluctuating waistline all her life and it's never done her any harm. She says that kids can be cruel. I told her I felt like crying in Geography when Chips said: 'I bet you eat your dinner off a tectonic plate.'" Chips looks up. "I forgot I said that."

Swansea Recreation Centre - First Time European First Time European, from Swansea Recreation Centre’s new EP ‘hi tom / hey tom blood’ is quite unlike the vast majority of music I’ve come across of late. It appears to draw some sort of influence from the intelligent, awkward British synth-pop of the underground 1980s, contemporary electronica, also perhaps from the post-Animal Collective scene of urban psychedelia which sprouted up around the time of Merriweather Post Pavilion. There’s maybe even an element of Tunng in there too. To name some specific bands, I’m hearing the dense [...]

This is Swansea band The Pooh Sticks’ last ever show in Wales. Probably. Buoyed by a successful comeback after 15 years at last year’s Indie Tracks, the band have decided to give gigging another go for a limited time only. It’s clear, from this packed r... Read more..
