There seems to be a huge amount of stages at this year's Electric Picnic each one filled with some of Ireland's best bands. The Salty Dog stage has the right mix of great homegrown talent with international artists on the cusp of greatness such as Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros and The Dark Jokes. Here's the line-up and a selection of music from the bands on the bill: FRIDAY 14.00-15.45 Will Softly (DJ) 16.00-17.15 Anna and The Infidels 17.30-18.30 Huey and the Hobgoblins [...]

Before signing to Reekus Records in 2009, Dublin Ireland quartet, Sweet Jane, independently released their debut EP 'Blackboots & Blackhearts', limiting physical copies to 300, which included 50 limited edition pressings of the EP with individual polaroid photograph covers. This last March they were invited to play at SXSW in Austin Texas where they played 11 shows in 5 days culminating in a storming performance in BD Rileys as their showcase gig. Flash forward to recent events, and the band are currently busy in the studio recording tracks for their second album and are taking time [...]

This Thursday sees the 4th instalment of Future Bright take place in Dublin's Crawdaddy. Independent Irish record label Reekus Records take over the reigns for the latest installment of Pod and Heineken Music's Future Bright, bringing Sweet Jane, Saccade and The Syndicate to the stage. Dublin's Sweet Jane return to domestic duties fresh from wooing crowds with their psychedelic rock'n'roll at SXSW. [...]

Jeremy Messersmith @ The Ale House Jeremy Messersmith was a treat. "Tatooine" is a gem that made our top 50 list last year and we couldn't wait to have the experience live. Pleasantly surprised. Jeremy's set proved more quirky than expected. Concluding with "Violets", his band helped carry a sound reminiscent of The Turtles and other late 60's West Coast bands. Messersmith has talent and just seems to radiate longevity. Jeremy Messersmith - Tatooine [...]

One of the best things about SXSW is that you can just walk down a street and your ears can bring you to something you've never heard before. In preparing some post-festival coverage I recalled one of those bands that drew me in. If you're a fan of Noel Gallagher and his guitar playing, then you can't resist listening to this. Lydia Des Dolles lead vocals add a fresh compliment to the British sound. Into it. Sweet Jane - Close Your Eyes (Single Version) [...]

This is my alternative list to the' BBC Sound of list' which always seems to me to feature artists who have pretty much broken already. That may sound pretentious of me but I can assure you that's not my intention. I never forget the privileged position I have of hearing lots of great artists ahead of the curve. The price I pay tapping away at a keypad every evening and listening to every promo that hits the mat seems a small one, and I still get a real buzz from seeing and meeting emerging artists in small venues. This year the [...]

After much consideration I have managed to put the top ten long-players that have rocked my world the most this year in list form. I'm going to get it written up before I decide to fine tune it any more! Where I have reviewed an album on the site I have included a link for your convenience. The one thing that surprised me compiling this list is that some of the records I waxed so lyrical about have ended up lower down the pile than I imagined. A couple in my top ten I have not even reviewed, not [...]
