The launch of any new music series on Irish television is something to be applauded but even so RTÉ's The Raw Sessions with Sony Ericsson looks particularly interesting, a brand new eight-part interactive music series on which will see eight talented Irish music acts write, record and mix an original song in front of the cameras in 12 hours or less. Viewers can vote for their favourite song and by downloading it can help the artists of the week into the Irish charts. The Raw Sessions with Sony Ericsson, which will be presented by [...]
Take girl-punks the Donnas, add a spattering of Irish charm and a Sex and the City wardrobe and you have a good idea of what to expect from Talulah Does the Hula . On stage the four Dublin girls are all carefully placed flowers, look-at-me attitude and model poses, but musically Talulah Does the Hula never really get going. While there's nothing inherently wrong with their gentle pop-rock, a slightly dodgy sound set up and the minor vocal clashes that come from four girls singing simultaneously takes the gloss off their performance. To be fair, Talulah Does [...]

Dreampop, outta Ireland, in 2009, hooray for Sweet Jane and their boy/girl call and responses. 'Blackboots and Blackhearts' is so dreamy it might even make you forget about the doom and gloom for a few minutes. It is a marked progression for the band and sees them edge away from their influences and closer to their own unique voice. And what a final destination it could prove to be. We probably

Hi Mark here from the UK. I feel it's been an exciting year musically. I have been privileged to have the inside track as Glasvegas have exploded on the scene, and interviewed Gary Numan amongst many. Most of all it's been a real pleasure to read positive feedback in comments - that means a lot believe me!!! I can't finish the year without a few thank you's so here goes......To Kip for providing me the platform, Sean for his help and support. Neil Ferris, Jon Dunn all at the Press Counsel and Zest PR for Latitude and Mighty Boosh respectively. [...]

I think there's been a distinct lack of real quality Irish bands breaking through in the last while. I don't think the music scene in this country is as strong as it could be, due to a number of factors, not least the lack of support for bands at live venues. When there's so much established international quality bands playing gigs here, it's difficult to get people out to a gig by a band they may have only heard a couple of songs from. Without real support at the live venues, it's hard for bands to gain real foothold. Of [...]

The Hard Working Class Heroes Festival is taking place this weekend all around Temple Bar with a huge variety of bands playing in various venues. There's some real talent on the Irish scene at the moment and this festival will showcase some of them along with an 'invasion' of Scottish bands which will add further to the festival. Entertainment.ie are running a download chart of songs by the artists featured so that's well worth a look to find a few more bands and also more info on the artists I've featured below. Here are some of my [...]

Highlighting bands and artists from Ireland, the Hard Working Class Festival aims to bring these groups to the attention of media from around the globe. With our boys Angel Pier on the list, we thought we might give them a boost while sending some love out to the other 100 bands that are showcased. Best of all, free MP3s for every one of the artists. We took this list based on the current top-20 and we added the MP3s. Click on a group's song if you would like to support them or their name to [...]

So I had an idea .......The more busy I get with my inbox overflowing here, the more I neglect what used to be one of my best sources for new music. Last night I trawled through fifty or so friend requests on Myspace and the bands featured below represent the best of those fifty. If you all enjoy the feature, I will continue with it every Tuesday. First up are Sympathy State : "Sympathy State are a four piece band formed in the [...]

I tried writing this blog late Friday night all hopped up on flu meds and it ended in tragedy with me trying to get fancy with coding and formatting. So I'm keeping this one simple. These are some selections from film soundtracks that inspired me to seek out a music supervision career at an early age. I'm not talking any score here, that's an entirely different blog. Pump up the Volume-1990 This song was playing during the scene where Sammantha Matthis's character [...]
