Sweet Lights - Message on the Wire
Sweet Lights - One Day (Sharon Van Etten cover)
This self-titled offering from Sweet Lights , a solo vehicle from Shai Halperin of Philly's The Capitol Years, was marking time as a self-release before being picked up by indie label Highline Records. Halperin, aka Shai Son of Eli, is an enigmatic individual keen on recalling his youth, from the young kid on the album cover to a weirdly watchable video featuring him break-dancing as a teen. The record combines sounds from '70s and '80s rock encountered in Halperin's youth, though not necessarily in real time. The Beatles are high on that playlist, but you can also catch echoes of [...]
Lets just say this. Sweet Lights (Shai Halperin) and his S/T High-Line released album is nostalgia all over. Seriously. Playing this thing...I'm hearing McCartney, Floyd, etc, etc.... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

Sweet Lights is the work of Shai Halperin, one time leader of The Captiol Years (whose line-up once included War on Drugs main-man Adam Granduciel). His debut as a one-man band certainly bears the marks of a honed songwriter with an affection for melodic pop. His influences often stretch back to the hook-laden 60s – he even responds to them – Are We Gonna Work It Out is a direct reply to The Beatles' track. Musically there's warmth to the album; it's all going down easy with the acoustic in hand. It leaves [...]

Shai Halperin has already accomplished a lot as a musician and the former leader of The Capitol Years . Halperin and his band recorded a live session for BBC Radio, played the Glastonbury Festival, received high levels of praise from Rolling Stone and Pitchfork, and toured with the likes of the Pixies and Daniel Johnston (whom they also backed on tours). And The Capitol Years that featured members of Nightlands and The War on Drugs at certain points started out as Halperin playing every instrument on the first two albums. The artist went back to [...]

The long-awaited new Spiritualized album Sweet Heart Sweet Light comes out on Fat Possum Records 16 April 2012. "Hey Jane" is the first single and video from that album, and it's probably bound to cause a might of controversy for it's bold story line. But it's so worth it, after all.

Watch the video for " Hey Jane " from Spiritualized the first single from their upcoming (and long overdue) April 17th release Sweet Heart, Sweet Light ( Fat Possum Records ). Spiritualized has just released a dark, gritty, NSFW, 10-minute new video for "Hey Jane" , their epic lead single off their upcoming "Sweet Heart Sweet Light" which we listened to last month. The album is out a month from now, on April 17 via Fat Possum . But [...]

Historically, Spiritualized has had two primary modes of conduct: the trademarked, baptismal epics – for example, the born-again sprawl of "Wont Get to Heaven (The State I'm In)" – and the ribald, rebellious rockers, which are also epic but toward an altogether different end, that is, J. Spaceman et al actively collapsing into themselves, everyone entrenched not in holy water, but in their own terrestrial perspiration. This, of course, is to speak very loosely of Spiritualized's entire oeuvre, and, as exhibited by their new single, "Hey Jane," the band has no trouble mixing its moistures. Here, both Spaceman sweat and holy [...]

It's been a while since I've heard anything from Sweet Lights - so I was stoked to get this video for his new track "Endless Town" it's a beautiful moving collage of bright patterns and old images. Directed by Albert Birney (Spinto Band, Dr. Dog, Ra Ra Riot) & Vanessa Lauria.

Shai Halperin of Sweet Lights debuted a new video for the song "Endless Town" on the NME music website. The video was directed by Albert Birney and animated by Vanessa Lauria. The single is being released on March 5th on Highline Records with a cover of The Traveling Wilbury's "End Of The Line" as the B-side.

The beautifully haunting harmonies of the Chapin Sisters (who now consist of Lily and Abigail Chapin) first floated onto the scene when they released their "Oh, Hear the Wind Blow" EP and their debut full-length "Two" shortly after during 2010. They've taken some time off after the departure of member (and half-sister) Jessica Craven. However, they haven't completely parted ways with the stage since then. Singing in She & Him's backing band has kept the duo busy, and they've also spent this time writing new material for a sophomore release expected sometime in 2012. If the new record [...]
