Martin and Mathias found each other for the first time in May 1991. They were both wearing the same CCCP-cap (a hip thing among pre-teens in northern Sweden at the time) and riding similar BMX-bicycles. Ever since then they've been inseparable. The Sweet Serenades was officially formed in Stockholm, Sweden 2002. The sound is mainly influenced by great songs, broken hearts, sexual frustration and musical acts as Tom Waits, Clap your hands say yeah, Arcade Fire, The Strokes, ACDC, Eddie Meduza, ABBA, The Technicolors, The Perishers, The Shins and many more. We call it Jungle [...]

The Sweet Serenades are another in a long line of sugary and adorable indie-pop bands from Scandinavia (specifically Sweden) this side of 2000. They aren't as folky as Seabear or as cute as Lykke Li (seeing as how they're two tall Swedish bros) but damn if they don't make a catchy little pop song. Go pop on "Die Young" and dance around the room awkwardly, or give it to your lady-friend but don't try singing along, unless you've got that modern Scandinavian charm. Here we go, a mixtape of some of my favourite artists and songs of 2010 so far. Posting has been rather sporadic on here as per usual, but I think we have more than made up for that with this (and the other two that are in the works). We've got summery indie pop all the way through to some thundering and swaggering rock and roll - but I can't try and take all the credit for finding these - at least a couple were spotted by the fine folks over at The 405 - so hat tip [...]

James was a chef in Chicago that I learned a lot from. One night he was feeling appreciative about some of the stuff I had done for him so he made me a Tofu Cordon Bleu. I have dreamt of that dish many times since. It wasn't until last week that I tried to emulate it. While my version is nowhere near as good as the original (or at least my memory of it) J-Fur and I still enjoyed it enough to share. Tofu [...]

The flaw to any music review is that essentially the reviewer is trying to encapsulate the sensation of a song by tearing it apart and crudely putting it back together again like a car engine or something otherwise tangible. It's ham-fisted to say the least. The thing is everyone realises that most music, and all truly great music isn't just about a guitar twang or a drum beat, it's about an almost magical connection between the listener and the song that can't be pinpointed, that makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck, that extracts an emotion [...]

The Sweet Serenades from Sweden sent us this sweet video for their sweet track 'Die Young' featuring Karolina from Club 8 . It's a fantastic little duet about not falling in love with your one night stands. Probably sound advice. Absolutely love this track and video! Karolina's looking mighty fine. The track is off their debut album Balcony Cigarettes which is out now in Sweden and Germany, later this year in the US. Finger's crossed! [...]

The Sweet Serenades are, well, just that; a sweet compilation of all things happy or sad, in mourning or bliss. This Swedish duo look as though they could be pounding lagers amongst muscly, flanneled woodsmen, but damned if they wouldn't hesitate to break into a beautiful ballad at any moment. "Die Young", from their amazing album Balcony Cigarettes , is a beautiful track serenading (pun, intended) one of the greatest yet most heartbreaking mistakes human beings can make: the one night stand. With guest vocals from Club 8's Karolina Komstedt, this tremendous little [...]

This incredibly poppy little number from Swedish band The Sweet Serenades has been creating quite the positive buzz around the interwebs. The song appears on the bands debut LP Balcony Cigarettes, which is currently only available via digital download on itunes in the US (physical release stateside coming soon). You can also check out a quirky video of the new song via youtube . I digs. Update: After the song popped up on our radio, my mother informs me that the song was on a recent episode of [...]
The Sweet Serenades ' new song "Die Young" actually kind of suits their name as it is a sweet (albeit bitterly so) duet with Club 8 singer Karolina about the dangers of falling in love with a one night stand. Apparently it was featured in an episode of Grey's Anatomy, but what upcoming-yet-already-popular-i n-the-blog-world band hasn't been featured on that show? I just hope The Sweet Serenades don't suffer the same fate as Imogen Heap who I used to adore but can't listen to anymore without imagining Marissa and Ryan from The O.C. pouting over whatever injustice their upper-class [...]

My TV watching consists wholly of LOST, sports, action sports reality shows, and as a result I've never seen Grey's Anatomy. I do like The Sweet Serenades and their song, "Die Young" (a duet with Karolina from Club was recently featured in Grey's Anatomy episode 616 - Perfect Little Accident. In May The Sweet Serenades will support Club 8 on their tour in Asia. The Sweet Serenades debut, Balcony Cigarettes is being released by Leon Records in Sweden and Germany. [...]

Say what you will about Grey's Anatomy not really being the "must-see" event it once was (we wouldn't necessarily argue with you), but you got to admit, they still know how to alert viewers to great under-the-radar pop finds. "Die Young", from (previously MM-approved ) Swedish indie duo The Sweet Serenades , is one of the prime-time soap's latest compelling scene-soundtrackers . Effectively pairing the rustic tenor of Serenades' singer/ rhythmic guitarist Martin Nordvall with the sighing, featherweight coo of Club 8 vocalist Karolina Komstedt atop a [...]
