It's Friday, we get nostalgic from time to time on Friday, hence this next track. Perhaps it is the fact that we recently were informed that Hawkeye will be opening for these dudes when they roll into town, but this track has been looping in our collective minds all week. The song comes from Swervedriver's 1990 EP of the same name, Son Of Mustang Ford. Buckle up.
One of the most influential post-shoegaze UK bands, Swervedriver , are setting course for a return to the U.S. The band officially reunited (at least for touring purposes ... still holding out hope for a new CD) in 2008 and have been doing selective touring in the U.S. for the past few years. I'm very excited about the Cleveland date (even though it's on a Monday) as the one chance I got to see the band was a huge failure on my part (let's just say it involved [...]
Looks like I'll be going to the Key Club on April 7. How does that venue even stay...

Swervedriver at Bowery Ballroom, 2008 ( more by Chris LaPutt ) Swervedriver began playing shows again this year when they went on an Australian tour, a European tour, and short North American tour , which took place this past June. An entire tour for 2012 hasn't been announced yet, but the band are beginning to announce some shows including one in NYC on March 31 at Bowery Ballroom . Tickets go on sale Friday (12/9) at noon with [...]

After a short adjournment from the Mrs Mackerel mantle, it's back to business this week with a blast from the musical past. Anyone Can Play Guitar had a one-off showing at my beloved Phoenix Picturehouse in Oxford this week. It's always a pleasure to go the Phoenix and I have to admit, I didn't really know what I was going to see other than a film about the Oxford music scene featuring Radiohead . I didn't realise that one of my oldest and bestest friends played a large [...]
This week we welcome Mike Kirschmann of The Christines , who will be playing this Saturday at The Hi-Dive , with The Omens , The Overcasters and Tyler & Jake DJing in between sets. This is the Christines second show in the last 6 years, so make it happen. PLAYLIST: The Christines - You Were The One Overcasters - In The Clouds The Omens - Just Can't Satisfy The Christines - Days Are Numbered The Christines - Lost Your Mind The Liar Script - Painted Smiles [...]

Story and photos by Matt Draper In 1983, after his fanzine and club night had culminated, a Scot named Alan McGee formed an imprint he called Creation to release records from like-minded friends. "73 in 833, a single from art-rock band The Legend! became the label's first release after McGee secured a £1,000 loan. Though I can bet you've probably never heard of this particular group (they sound like the Normal meets Gang of Four), the label's next releases proved massive and beyond anything its founder could have imagined. On a shoestring [...]

From the depths of my reporter's notebook (yeah, I still carry one): ► Swervedriver's recent blast from the past at the Echoplex felt like a class reunion. Could've sworn I recognized two dozen faces from their great performance a couple years ago at Coachella. And it's not out of the question that Adam Franklin and mates could convene to make some new music, I hear. Bring it on. ► Beachwood Sparks played a backyard party over the weekend and allowed as [...]

I'm going to try and keep these documentary style installments coming. Part II is already done. Here's Part 1 of the what will be a Über trailer from a truly american shoegaze treasure as Jack puts it - The Sleepover Disaster . Long story short this is part of larger "non-musical" documentary project I work on called create or else about inspiration or at least that is how this started - I ended up with a ton of footage. So these are the musical fruits of which I intend to share all the great moments [...]

Think of these as punctuation marks for your weekend: ► Swervedriver (pictured) is back, Adam Franklin bringing his band to North America for four shows. The finale is tonight at the Echoplex (7 p.m.), with the Black Watch opening. ► Ya La Bamba frontwoman Luz Elena — who delivered a rapturous set last week at the Buzz Bands LA SecondTuesday songwriter night at Lot 1 Cafe — plays the Hotel Cafe. ► Great Sunday evening at the Troubadour, with Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit , [...]

It's such a great weekend for festivals in Chicago. We've got Taste of Randolph occupying the West Loop with the salivating sounds of British rockers The Heavy and Swervedriver as well as local rockers JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound and The 1900s . Not to mention the three-day birthday bash going on at Saki featuring Great Society Mind Destroyers and much, much more. With so much rock happening there's really no need to wait. Let's get on with the show! [...]

In honor of Swervedriver returning to Los Angeles this Sunday, I've been posting a few videos of my favorite artists that also made a lasting impression during that time period. It's only appropriate that we feature Medicine 's searing noise-pop gem "The Pink", taken from their sophomore album The Buried Life , as the two bands toured together behind their strongest albums. Fun fact: "The Pink" was also directed by Swervie Jez.

Michelle Ford Another year, another NXNE , another NXNE preview post. I'll apologize in advance if this one's a little less thorough or exploratory than previews past, as travels and general business has taken up time that would usually be spent cruising band websites and Myspaces Facebooks, Bandcamps and Soundclouds. But I can offer one unconditional endorsement for the coming week, and I'd like to think it's not a wholly obvious one: Vancouver's Louise Burns . Her debut Mellow Drama came out a couple [...]

On Thursday, influential Oxford band Swervedriver will be visiting New York City for a show at Irving Plaza. The band formed in 1989, went on hiatus in 1998 and reformed in 2008. That year and 2009 saw reissues of the band's three studio albums. We've got a pair of tickets for Thursday's show.

Frank Yang It happens far too infrequently, but sometimes the good guys win. Sometimes immense talent, great songs and hard work can triumph over image and marketing and when it does, you get improbably wonderful things like Adele becoming and more importantly remaining pretty much the biggest artist in music for 2011 for months on end, on the strength of her sophomore album 21 . Granted, her story is hardly one of an out of nowhere dark horse - her debut 19 already made [...]
