It's been a rough week here at Manifest Destitute since our Digital Mistress that is our MacBook Pro took a hit for us. Now her pretty Screen is broken and I'm afraid she might have to go on retirement or simply become a stay at home mom. Either way we still love her and although she no longer can sit on my lap, our heart goes out to her...Oh the tears. But on a different note, tomorrow is a special night for all electronic music aficionados in our little city [...]

Its been an interesting year for electronic music, it can be argued that the established sounds have waned in favour of new emerging styles. If some authors are to be believed 2008 sounded the death knell for Minimal Techno . Certainly this year Minimal has been lacking in inspiration and ideas. However Techno will survive and reinvent itself as it has done countless times over the last 20 years. 2007 was the year when Dubstep finally broke through into the world's consciousness, but by 2008 it was in danger of becoming just as formulaic as Minimal with the endless [...]

I didn't really do one of these last year, but figured i might as well keep going with the crowd and jump on the top 10 bandwagon. Love conforming. I know it's a little bit early but I wanted to get it out of the way before I skip the country in a week. Most of the tracks act more as representatives of a certain artist or label or album or whatever, so keep that in mind. I've loved this year and the way it's panned out music-wise. My electro hangover began to creep up in earlier [...]
Who: Belle & Sebastian Title: The BBC Sessions Release Date: Nov. 18th Label: Matador Records Thoughts: For those looking for something new from the wonderful Scots known as Belle & Sebastian, you're going to have to wait a bit longer because I haven't even heard the faintest of whispers on a brand new album yet. But for fans of the band they are releasing a compilation record that culls together

Hullo crew. Exciting things are happening at the mo. For one, Tim Sweeney (a la Beats In Space , DFA , RVNG , etc) will be warping the heads of us lucky Aussies in October which I'm seriously convulsing with glee over. It's being put on by HAHA Industries - go investigate, get tickets, and have yourself an experience. To celebrate in a minutely related way, allow me to continue bombarding you with DFA choonz. The first Syclops one is really really cool, as long as you have a little patience. [...]

That subject is the best title of an album this whole year. Well, that and Apacolypso. "I've Got My Eye On You" is the debut album by Electronic/Dance/Experimental group Syclops. Do you understand why it is so good now? In some songs the music sounds similar to The Knife, but more focused on beats and effects. Then they venture into a little electro and house sounding stuff. Then techno and nu-jazz. Check them out and see what you think. I think it is brilliant. Syclops - Nelsons Back [...]
(No Ratings Yet) Loading ...

Maurice Fulton , I had no idea how many projects this guy is involved in. On top of the gazillion remixes (The Rapture, Annie, Hot Chip, etc...) he has done, and solo projects, he is also produced his wife's music project Mu (remember the track Paris Hilton ?) and some of !!!'s early tracks and plays with his ba nd, Syclops on Kathy Diamond 's ridiculously awesome debut, Miss Diamond To You, and he has now just released my current obsession, the new full length from Syclops on none [...]

Syclops - Mom, The Video Broke from I've Got My Eye On You ( insound / amazon CD / amazon mp3 / itunes ) http://www.myspace.com/syclops band

all this nice cruise(ier) electronic music coming my way is fantastic.. maybe its just cos im getting older and older everyday, but as my 'most played' in itunes would surely attest, i seem to only listen to the more relaxed side of electronic music (for relaxed read: not blowing my ears/head off).. another wicked chilled electronic group that ive come across recently are Syclops from the uk. i really hate the term 'experimental' to describe a band/producers. for me it either conjures up images of frizzy haired scientists behind synths or some wanky hipsters attempting [...]
Ack, I've had a tough time finding new music that I not only want to listen to but share. Actually took the time to listen to all of Spin.com's top downloads and the verdict is: bleurgh . Had a little better luck with the rock selections from turntablelab via music for robots . The original video for Teenage Kicks above. Dragonette: Sharp Dressed Man (ZZ Top Cover) .mp3 School Of Seven Bells: Limb by [...]

I've Got My Eye On You, the new album from DFA 's anonymous analogue electronic outfit, kind of sounds like the soundtrack to a videogame about breakdancing. It also kind of sounds like something you could do on your own if only you had the equipment, except the more you listen to the album, the more you realize there is no way on Earth you could pull this off. For some reason every time I hear it all I can think of is the Ghostbusters movie, which is something that you'll never convince me isn't awesome. Dusted Mag [...]
Maurice Fulton is half of Mu and Mu gave me the crazies. By the time I heard 2004's Afro Finger and Gel I had grown a bit soft and smooth, like pudding. Music didn't feel that abrasive anymore, just done-before. There was much to love, but the rub was gone, and so was the itch. The last time I had been made a believer in music as barbed wire was nearly a decade previous when Fugazi's Red

Been away a while, Uni's finished so I'll be attempting to post twice a week now. Been to some great gigs recently the DFA mini fest of the Cut Copy shows, the epic Black Keys show last weekend and the Berlin Session a few weeks ago. Just watched The Darjeerling Limited last night too, was an amazing movie, the best I have seen in ages, can't wait for Batman. Ok what's been happening on the music front? Well I think I'll just run through a couple of choice labels and what activity has been happening on their rosters. [...]
