SYKUR , which literally translates to English as sugar, are a 4 piece electro outfit from the quirky island that brought us Bjork, Iceland. They have made a name for themselves in their native and other nordic lands. Having opened for Peaches, Junior Boys, Kleerup and Casiokids. 'Curling' is a swirling synth adventure, loaded up with a deep bass line, sultry vocals, and the perfect smattering of bit-pop. The video for 'Curling' is well...imagine Goldfrapp from BlackCherry era happened during the early 902s on MTV and throw in all the 8-Bit bells and bits graphics from NES that money could [...]

Consisting of Icelanders Agnes, Halldór, Stefán and Kristján, Sykur (translation: Sugar) began in 2009 and quickly established a reputation for packing out parties with girls and boys looking for good times.I fell in love with their track "Curling", and the video made me love it even more due to it 902s imagery. The band released their first album, Frábært eða Frábært in October 2009 to much acclaim and commercial success, with the single "Viltu Dick?" from this album becoming one of the biggest radio hits in Iceland in 2009. The guys already play a pivotal role in the [...]

Is it TOON or CHOON ? These days I can't keep up with me own lingo. Either way, the SYKUR deserve your attention. Press release got it that this Icelandic outfit have been together since 2009 and are pretty established on the Reykjavik music scene having already shared stages with the likes of the PEACHES, KLEERUP, CASIOKIDS and a few others. Proof is in their insanely awesome, 90s inspired, electro-popping new video, CURLING , with its wacky make-up and carazy dance moves. Get watching. [...]

Holy 802s rock anthem, Batman! database offers up a free download of their remix of Skykur 's "Curling". Starting off with what sounds like a straight-on disco beat, this track quickly kicks into gear with some serious electro influences. The vocal slams in with a truly epic vibe reminiscent of some Sneaky Sound System stuff. Oh, did I mention how atmospheric and moody the break is and how well it contrasts with the rest of the tune? I just did. Rock it.

Sykur are a new Icelandic trio who are gearing up for a September release of their début UK single, ‘Shed Those Tears’. There’s loads of early 80’s SynthPop in ‘Shed These Tears’, there almost a Soft Cell quality to the tune, but with a nice raw contemporary Electro production style. The trio of Halldór, Stefán and Kristján already are well respected on the Reykjavik Electro scene, and the respect is well deserved, their music portrays a skill, maturity and tradition well beyond their years. The single will be backed with reMixes from the crazy FM Belfast [...]

This song made my day! Sykur is a young electro trio from Reykjavik, Iceland. Stefán and brothers Halldór and Kristján will release their debut UK single on September 12.
