With London nu metallers, Sugarcoma reformed and rehearsing and the fresh news that London ska band, King Prawn have reformed to play legendary Blackpool punk festival, Rebellion as well as Slam Dunk Festival, we had a think about other UK bands we'd like to see reforming in 2013... The Ghost of a Thousand Technically they already reunited for three shows late in 2012 - two supporting Alexisonfire at Brixton Academy and a headline show in Brighton to warm up [...]
![Pop Montreal 2012 (Pop Symposium) – A Radical Re-Imagination of Music in Canada [September 19, 2012]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4524192_lg.jpg)
Before I headed to the Pop Montreal opening party . I decided to kill some time and check out this Pop Symposium. If you don't know Pop Montreal isn't just your typical live music festival. They also have event that is catered to industry or music nerds. Here is a blurb about the symposium. The Symposium offers intimate access to a diverse range of the figures, ideas and forces at the heart of today's music world, focusing on the relationships between art, culture and creativity. [...]

My name is Jim. Well, James, but I only ever get called that in something official, or when I'm in trouble. Never call me Jimmy. There, now that we've answered that burning question, let's get to the songs. They all have my name in the title. And I warned you there'd be Menswe@r at some point. Beastie Boys - Jimmy James Mackenzies - Big Jim (There's No Pubs In Heaven) Cuddly Shark - Cuddly Jim Gay Dad - Oh Jim [...]

Can you see where this is going? The last couple of posts in the 33 series have been more labour intensive than they might look, meaning I briefly had to use my brain. Now, I don't want to have to do that too often. It's a small small brain, it gets used up quite quickly, and I might need it at some point later. With that in mind while trying to think of what I wanted to do today I looked out the window, typed "sun" into search on my [...]

Photo by Philip Cosores Less than six months after the release of her lauded second album WHOKILL Merrill Garbus seems to be thinking ahead to the next tUnE-yArDs release. At recent performances she's been busting out a new song, which comes in at a relatively long 8 minutes. Luckily someone at the POP Montreal show managed to catch a video. The song features all the standard tUnE-yArDs hallmarks: a patient build up of loops, Garbus' bombastic vocals, great percussion and punches of brass. And, there are additional singers! Check out the performance below.

Started off my day with Pop Montreal 's Symposium called "Voices on Voices" on September 23, 2011. This workshop/discussion was with tUnE-yArDs . This was about her writing and arrangement in her music. I was very excited to attend this one since usually at festivals I rarely attend these workshops. The workshop was moderated by Drew Nelles. It started off with a discussion about her music. I thought it was pretty insightful. There was some Q&A after the discussion. [...]

Label: Kanel Records Release date: 18/04/11 Link: Myspace It's rare to find folk music that is genuinely invigorating. Too often what you get is completely uninspired and boring, which makes it a particularly difficult genre to review. Most other genres have a chance to really mess up, creating something genuinely bad that a reviewer can obsess over with excited vitriol. It's hard for a folk band to mess up so spectacularly, when all they really use is the odd acoustic guitar. The Olympic Symposium [...]
Confession: this is more of an experiment than a definitive list. It all started when I appalled my male coworkers by admitting that while I enjoy the merits of D'Angelo , his song "Untitled (How Does It Feel)" doesn't *actually* get me in a tizzy. In fact, I can say the same thing about most R&B songs that are designed to make girls want to take their clothes off - ones where oiled up, buff, air-humping dudes proclaim to worship all parts of a lady. Their shirts are so huge yet they leave them unbuttoned for some [...]

Even though I was fairly fresh faced myself when Symposium were at the peak of their powers (mid to late 902s) I recall thinking how much more fresh faced they appeared to be. I guess it was a consequence of their age for they were mere teens when the music press and what passed for internet (I'm wildly guessing) in 1996 fell for their live antics and cartoon punk anthems. Nothing really struck me as much as their debut single 'Drink The Sunshine' however, the rest just came across as watered down versions of that first high. There was some [...]
Gather round our round table of truthiness, where the Donnybrook Elite and our esteemed blog-friends debate which is the shittiest, shittiest shitty movie ever made. Our guest bloggers this week include Matt Jordan from You Ain't No Picasso , Ethan Axelrod, Denver editor of the Huffington Post , Lawrence Dai from the Lawrence/Julie & Julia Project , and Alice Hubley from The Shins Will Change Your Life - not to mention Angora, Fritz, and Professor Honeydew from Donnybrook. Let the voting commence! [...]
Gather round our round table of truthiness, where the Donnybrook Elite debate which misguided/awesome celebrity sported the best Non-Halloween costume this year. Was it Lady Gaga's meat suit? Was it Joaquin Phoenix? Try again. With our wide-reaching web domination, we expect the winner of this contest will be represented at real Halloween parties worldwide. VOTE BELOW! Katy Perry as Oversexed Cupcake My vote goes to Katy Perry in "California Gurls." It's hard [...]
Gather round our round table of truthiness, where the Donnybrook Elite debate who wins the title of Coolest Motherfucker Alive. This time there were no parameters, except that the person should be alive, although I encouraged Donnybrookites to break the rules because we're way too blue-blooded for them to apply to us anyway. You can vote on who you think is the Coolest Motherfucker Alive at the bottom, or leave it in the comments! Bill Murray [...]
Gather round our round table of truthiness, where the Donnybrook Elite debate who wins the title of Worst Person Ever. The rules were that we were to shed new light on the subject - so no need to vote Hitler or Rush Limbaugh in, that's old news! And now behold, the first Donnybrook Symposium: the Worst Person Ever. Sparkly-Vampire Edward Edward Cullen may be fictional and only sort of human, but I think it's still safe to say he qualifies as Worst [...]
Right here's the deal, every day in November I am going to post one lost hidden pop gem from a 90's band. Yes, I am being self-indulgent, yes, you probably don't care, but it might just brighten up the day of someone.... somewhere... First, off it's Symposium, the greatest live band that I have ever seen. Some people never quite get over their first love, I've never gotten over the break up of Symposium. their gigs were usually a complete riot, with hyperactive lead singer Ross Cummins causing most of the chaos. I won't delve into [...]
