Just released by Above & Beyond's famous Anjunabeats record label comes the first installment of their Alternative Beats series. The 10-track compilation diversifies their typical releases, crossing several styles of electronic music including dnb, dubstep, progressive house and Beatport's favourite description, 'electronica'. Featuring tracks from the likes of Calyx & TeeBee, Synkro, Seven Lions, Andrew Bayer, Dusky and more, I reckon this is one of the best compilations out so far this year. Listen to it below and cop it on Beatport if you're feeling it. Highly recommended! Beatport Link

Not being much out there worthy of note in the world of dnb this week, it seems quite ironic that our awardee predominantly works at tempos at the slower end of the contemporary spectrum than 170. That said, the man in question, Synkro has two releases out today and both are worthy of mentioning. The hallowed metaphorical turf of R&S offshoot Apollo Records lets us have eight audible nuggets of Synkro-beauty in the form of his Acceptance EP. It is one that showcases the very spectrum of Joe's 'sound' from the 170 bpm title track all the way through to [...]

Anyone with a taste for atmospheric electronica will have already heard of Synkro and be well aware of his material (his recently "Acceptance EP" for Apollo is a must have) but may have missed the brilliant album he released with friend Bering Strait as Kiyoko for ASC's Auxiliary imprint. The long-player was a tremendous piece of work focusing on ambient and downtempo pieces with a focus on using analogue equipment and avoiding any traditional genre tags. They're now set to continue the project with this [...]

Kicking off our Best of 2012 guest series is my good friend and Brasstax partner in crime, Jake Guidry . For those of you who don't know Jake, he's a DJ and writer living here in Chicago who's contributed to the late Signal residency at Smart Bar, publications like Chicagoist and XLR8R and even our very own Mix Series . Along with his top "lean" tracks of 2012, he offers some insight as to how much a musicians musical state of mind can shift throughout the [...]
Manchester UK electronic producer, Synkro , readies his upcoming EP on Apollo Records entitled, Acceptance , with an official video of, 'Recognition'. The microscopic visuals are directed by Oliver Jennings . Also in celebration of Synkro's new EP he gave out a free older unreleased dub of his entitled, 'Mountains', along with a lethal remix from Troy Gunner . It's truly amazing, get it over at his bandcamp . Mountains | (Troy Gunner Remix) by Synkro

Synkro 's latest offering is sedative, in the most flattering way that the word can be used. Warm and lushly radiant ambiance lines the track from seam to seam, complimented only by sparse, filtered vocals that gently float over the soft chords that comprise the majority of "Recognition." "Recognition" is the first tune to be lifted from Synkro 's forthcoming Acceptance EP, set to drop on January 28th via Apollo Records , an offshoot of R&S . The below video, courtesy of Oliver Jennings, premiered the song a few days back. [...]
Heerlijk zo'n winterzon, daar hebben we ook een passende plaat bij van Synkro. De producer werd onlangs nog getipt als één van de acts op om te letten dit jaar.

Robots Don’t Sleep So Bad (Synkro Vocal Mix) I premiered this dope new Synkro edit on Yours Truly yesterday. Check it out. Like How To Dress Well drunk on cosmic sex vibes (and far less sadness), the Berlin producer’s project, Robots Don’t Sleep introduces R&B- kissed magnetism weaved through heavy, diamond-cut bass. Making what was already a sought-after infatuation, even more tempting, Synkro drips his magic onto Robots Don’t Sleep’s vivid, “So [...]
We're gonna start this week off on a bit of a livelier note. The original of this first track had such a big influence on my high school musical taste (that initial drop at 00:38, yeah it was that good that i remember the timestamp!). RL Grime has been doing big things and I am [...]

Manchester's Synkro remixes "So Bad," a new track from Robot Koch 's latest project Robots Don't Sleep . Vocals of John LaMonica , who is also featured on Koch's The Other Side LP, claim centre stage while Synkro uses club sounds to wrap us up in a soulful R&B dubstyle mix. The self-titled Robots Don't Sleep EP is set to drop on January 13 via Four Music . ┴ [...]
