The thing is I don't know when to shut my mouth. That's the problem. Sky Ferreira is an 'it' girl. Immortalized by the industry's top photographers ( Rankin , for instance, took the snapshot above), suited and styled by the most desirable modern couturiers, and produced by arguably the biggest names in the music industry, the 17-year-old Los Angeles native has certainly made a name for herself far before ever...well, making a name for herself. Yet. After sending out a MySpace message to Swedish power pop producers [...]
Slackers around the globe are gearing up for the action-packed tale of Scott Pilgrim, a disheveled young bassist played by Michael Cera, who after finding the love of his life, must defeat her seven evil superhuman ex-boyfriends or lose the girl. The movie is based off a unique comic book series written by Bryan Lee O'Malley and published under Portland-based indie comic book company Oni Press. So it makes sense that an indie film based off an indie comic book would need a proper indie rock soundtrack, and Frank Black, Broken Social Scene, Beck, and the Black Lips, amongst others, [...]

T. Rex - Life's A Gas Sweltering sun and shimmering blades of grass dancing in the wind suggests a typical exquisite summer evening. That's just it, though- typical. Even in the midst of magic at dusk can the feeling of indifference imbue your state of mind. Where's that jolt? Where's that bang? Slipping into a spiral of tawdry, you'd think to recuperate your buoyancy with a bit of glint and vitality. I can't be bothered. I chose to linger in indifference. Marc Bolan knows this feeling. Marc Bolan said [...]

(Music Before 1990) T. Rex - Electric Warrior Thirty-nine years ago this week, Marc Bolan and his band T. Rex hit #1 on the U.K charts with their breakout single "Get It On" (re-titled "Bang A Gong (Get It On) in the U.S.). The song and its associated full-length Electric Warrior formed the foundation of the new genre known as "glam rock." The genre is best remembered today for the theatricality and androgyny present in live performances and [...]
The original "glam-rock" band who helped put 70's British rock on the map. T. Rex is mostly known for their hit "Get It On" but this funky rock jam is a great opener to their 1971 album Electric Warrior.

Filed under: News , Movies , New Releases The soundtrack for the upcoming theatrical release ' Scott Pilgrim vs. the World ' (advertised as "an epic of epic epicness") will feature new music by Beck ...even if his name doesn't appear on the majority of his contributions, per-se. According to Pitchfork , Beck wrote the songs and recorded the instruments for fictional Canadian rock band Sex Bob-Omb . The ever-charming Michael Cera portrays Scott Pilgrim, Sex Bob-Omb's bassist and the hero of this tale. Beck will [...]

Last week, I posted a Bryan Lee O'Malley and Edgar Wright-approved mixtape of full versions of the songs featured in recent Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World trailers, and now — thanks to Pitchfork — we have a full official tracklist for the film's soundtrack. Aside from Blood Red Shoes' "It's Getting Boring by the Sea," none of the tunes from the trailers made the OST, though they could potentially end up in the film itself. Take a look at the tracklist after the jump. 01 Beck (as [...]

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive Alejandro Escovedo 's 2008 release, 'Real Animal,' turned out so well that the Texas singer-songwriter brought back many of the same elements for his latest, 'Street Songs of Love.' He wrote songs with his friend Chuck Prophet , recorded them with his band the Sensitive Boys and re-enlisted Tony Visconti to produce the album, which is due June 29 on Fantasy Records. "I knew going into it that it was going to be a guitar record. I [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , Video , Exclusive They may have gone back to the basics , but the Black Keys ' new album 'Brothers' certainly taps into a T. Rex vibe at times, a bit of a new direction for the Ohio-bred blues duo. "I think that [Marc Bolan] was kind of copying the same stuff that we were," Keys guitarist/vocalist Dan Auerbach admitted to Spinner at a recent Interface taping in New York. But let's be clear: no one's going to be [...]

Chicago natives Mickey 73 Titled "She's So Crazy" is a trashy, sleazy two song ep in the vein of GG Allin early work and T.rex. The a side " She's so Crazy" Is a foot stomping, raucous track full of attitude and just enough glitter to make it a ballsy. The b side is not as loud but has a 702s power pop vibe that is fun and keeps it interesting, E. For Fans of: T.Rex, GG Allin, Hunx and His Punx Download She's So Crazy HERE (thanks to TastRCRD for the link) [...]

The veiled seduction knife-edged swagger of Bolan's boogie is back a huh-huh. That's right patients, Marc Bolan has chained our hearts to our rock 'n roll stethoscopes and "T.Rextasy" is, again, in full bloom here... causing the doctors and nursemaids here at the asylum to put dashes of glitter on our rock 'n roll stethoscopes. King of the Asylum Commeth Bolan's rock 'n roll turing point happened when he shortened the name from Tyrannosaurus Rex to the dino-ragin' T. Rex and released "Ride A White Swan." But it was "Hot Love" that [...]

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive After indulging an autobiographical streak on 2008's 'Real Animal,' Alejandro Escovedo fully intended to make a record about something other than himself. Unfortunately for him, that didn't happen on 'Street Songs of Love,' the Texas singer-songwriter's 10th solo album. "Because of things that began to happen in my life, the album became a collection of songs about love, and love in every variation," Escovedo tells Spinner. "Every color, every emotional quality that love has, from rage to complete [...]

While Australian pop-psych act The Dolly Rocker Movement 's name might be a Syd Barrett reference, their sound leans heavier on another British mystic of the period. It makes sense: Marc Bolan dug Barrett, too. And these guys might be the best T-Rex update ever. If singer Daniel Poulter comes across a little too accurately as that long lost elf of glitter and smoke, it comes off as more homage than impression. After all, Bolan has been dead for 30 years. It's about time somebody took a swing at his particular brand of glam and [...]

Stumbled upon the following amusing anecdote in renowned rock hack Nick Kent´s recent seventies memoir Apathy For The Devil . At the abode of his cokedealer of all places, Kent meets a rather down and out Marc Bolan, erstwhile king of the British glamrock scene with the mighty T Rex. They get to talking about Bob Dylan, Bolan´s ultimate idol. Bolan recalls how he finally met His Bobness at the house of a mutual friend, the songwriter Harry Nilsson. After listening to Bolan´s effusive praise for several minutes, [...]
